Owner description: Daydream Island’s amazing Living Reef is a must see on the island. Located at the entrance to the resort, it is one of the world’s largest man-made living coral reef lagoons and features more than 80 species of marine fish and 50 species of coral. This microcosm of the Great Barrier Reef continues to capture the imagination of tourists young and old; with guests having the opportunity to hand feed resident stingrays, sharks and barramundi.

You could spend hours looking at the reef. There are many different parts that have different fish, stingrays, starfish and sharks. It is very visible from lots of areas around the hotel. You can get to feed the stingrays as well. Both kids and adults will love this.

“Feeding Time”
Reviewed September 9, 2013

Best thing was seeing the staff feeding the fish particularly the sting rays. Some beautiful fish and was great to see them close up.

“Back in time”
Reviewed August 28, 2013

The resort was probably built in the 70s and hasn't got much renovation done on it since. Went to Daydream on a full day tour from Airlie Beach that included lunch at the boathouse. This was a rather disappointing experience as the food offered is limited to some sandwiches/wraps of average quality. Living Reef is interesting, although I don't know if the shark is happy in such shallow water.

“not worth the visit”
Reviewed August 9, 2013

we went to daydream island for half a day while staying on Hamilton Island. We were pretty disappointed. The resort is a 70s throw back and needs renovating. The trip included lunch at the boathouse that was very average and the living reef was pretty lame. Having said that I think that we had just come from a day out scuba diving on the reef so even the kids weren't excited by the living reef. The kids did love the pool area and the jacuzzi

Overall an enjoyable day and fantastic lunch was served up, we were also treated to some whale watching out to the reef and on the way back.
