We visited the island on a day trip outing from our cruise ship. We were looking forward to white sand beaches and a bit of tropical paradise, but the beaches are mostly made up of bits of coral--we never saw any sand, though we heard there was a sandy beach at one end of the island. The pools are very nice, and there are lots of chaise lounges to relax in. Ran into several groups of wallabies, which was fun. There is a forest trail from one end of the island to the main hotel area, which has great views over the nearby islands. It was the off-season, so none of the shops were open. Our tour included a buffet lunch, which was fine--we were a bit spoiled by cruise ship food, but the buffet had enough selections and a good salad section. The overall impression of the resort, though, is that it needs an update--it felt rundown and a bit threadbare in uplaces. We were told that the new owners of the resort are planning to do a major refurbishing. We were there just before the March cyclone, and heard that it did a lot of damage, so the upgrade may come a bit sooner.

Half the resort shut down due to renovating, understaffed, poor service ( cleaning up the dishes didn't happen quickly due to lack of staff, very little food options or had to wait long time to get the food, kids club closed half the time

We took our 3 year old and 1 year old for 4 nights a month back and it was amazing. From the minute we got off the plane in Hamilton island we felt we were on holidays. Our luggage went from the airport to our room while we enjoyed he ferry through the Whitsundays. Room was clean and bright with great view, kangaroos and other wildlife kept the 3 year old thoroughly entertained, rainforest walk was magical, feeding the fish at lover's cove was special, the pools were clean and refreshing, the living reef was unique, and the kids club was well run and a blessing. The food was probably the only letdown. Some dishes were great but mostly they were quite average (albeit expensive). I'm glad we took the advice from other reviewers and brought our own snacks. We'd love to come back soon!

We went here just for the day, if it would not have been for the wildlife I would not have enjoyed what I did. The beach was not enjoyable, it was full of dead coral and Wallaby droppings. So we walked around the Island a ways and through a trail at the one end of the island that went way up for some great views. Spotted a Wallaby with a little one in her pouch and some birds that came in where we were eating inside the resort that didn't seem too afraid of people. The outdoor aquarium was very nice as well as the lagoon pool and hot tub areas. I wondered where all the people were though as we didn't see many out and about around the island and the miniature golf course was not maintained at all, no one around in that area at all. Good thing we were here for just the day.

We visited as day visitors. The staff were great and gave our large group (off a cruise ship) a warm welcome. They were helpful, too, especially the lovely young lady at the front desk who assisted me with wifi access. The air conditioning in the main building was not working, which meant the dining room was unbearably hot and humid, despite a few fans. This was apparently an aberration, but it did detract from our lunch comfort immensely. The salad choice for lunch was very tasty, although it was a surprise to be in tropical Queensland and be served tinned pineapple! Dessert was really good – except for the fresh fruit. It was simply awful. The rockmelon, pineapple and honeydew melon were hard and tasteless. They were nowhere near ripe. We cannot understand the lack of delicious tropical fruits in this part of Australia. We spent most of our day around a lovely, shaded pool area. The sun lounges were comfortable and the surroundings leafy and very pleasant. The end of the day was marred slightly when I was refused entry to the change room and toilet as they were about to be cleaned. I was the only person around wanting to use the facilities, but my plea for just a moment in there (perhaps I could change while she cleaned the toilets or vice versa?) fell on deaf ears. All in all a most pleasant day, despite a few issues.
