Went over in the "reef rocket" for a half day cruise and then went on to Kuranda. The staff were very friendly & very knowledgeable! We were lucky enough too to see whales so they slowed the boat down so we could get a better view.
Green Island itself is very nice. The glass bottom boat was excellent, saw quite a lot of fish & coral. Was disappointed I didn't see a turtle but must have to do the semi-sub to see that!
Overall, an enjoyable experience.

For $84 you get A great 1 hr 15 min trip on the big cat takes you to green island, plus the choice of snorkelling gear or a half our glass bottom boat tour. In addition you can have a great smorgasbord lunch for $20. Great value.

As the name suggests we expected Green Island to be luscious and nature-filled. Unfortunately there was very little nature left on the island, as the majority is taken over by the hotel and central eating areas. The beaches were unable to be walked on due to the sheer amount of bird poop and the only nice reef to snorkle in was very far out from the beaches and only accessible by strong swimmers - the water close to the beaches was just seaweed.

The food on the island was horrendously overpriced - I think we paid something like $12 for a hot dog, which we couldn't actually eat it was that fatty and disguisting. Not at all nutritious like you'd expect for a day of physical activity. I think you would be best to buy the lunch big cat offered.

We panicked when first turning up for the 11am trip, as we arrived at 10.30 and saw a Green Island Catamaran just leaving. It turned out that was another trip, and we had our boat turn up 10 minutes later and disembark its passengers to ready itself for us

As said elsewhere here, the ferry is just a taxi service - that's what you pay for, as well as the option to add on other activities at a cost once you get there (you do get either snorkelling or glass bottomed boat included in the ticket).

They ran exactly on time, and there was plenty of shelter or space for where we wanted to sit; we did go off-season, so it might have been slightly quiet, but generally, everything seemed to be well organised and go well.

Green Island itself, was a huge disappointment, and if you've ever done snorkelling anywhere decent before, and if you prefer non-tourist traps, then I wouldn't bother going. Any sense of nature has been bulldozed by the resort and food court, and it just feels like wandering around a very small holiday camp with no way off until your scheduled ferry back. If there were things worth doing, then they would cost a fair bit extra - maybe try the dry-helmet diving, or a scuba dive trip - and having experienced the mass-market tourism of the resort itself, I didn't fancy blowing more money on another dumbed-down, mass-market experience. My wife picked her way down the very shallow rocky beach to see a fair few fish, but it all felt like a hollow experience.

For 80 + dollars Australian you get a 45 minute boat ride to the island and back from Cairns and the choice of snorkelling equipment or glass bottom boat ride. It's probably a little expensive. I enjoyed the laidback approach and the choppy seas. The lack of a quality reef was sad but I was still able to snorkel along the jetty and in the supervised area to see enough sea life to keep me happy. If you aren't a competent snorkeller then you may find the lack of direction will limit your enjoyment. If you swim off the beach it doesn't compare to outer island trips, pay more, spend more time and go somewhere that does justice to those pictures you have seen on television.
