“Fabulous!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 15, 2013

Stayed here for 2 nights and it was fabulous. The island is much quieter and nicer after the day trippers have left at 4pm, but even before then the Island has lots of offer the visitor and nowhere is too overcrowded. We took advantage of just about every activity included in our stay, from star gazing to nature walks, fish feeding, glass bottomed boat trips and snorkelling to sunset drinks on the beach. Everything was beautiful, the staff are fantastic - especially the lovely ladies who provide massage and the fantastically friendly restaurant staff. Would thoroughly recommend Green Island whether you have visited the reef before or are a first timer - it has everything you want and more.

The resort is located 45 minutes by fast cat ferry from Cairns. While this is a positive it is also the negative of the resort. While the resort area is separated from the general public the majority of the island is open to the public during the day. The island is crowded during the day and after 4 pm becomes your private island. The rooms are very private and located in a rain forest. Our king suite was very nice and all rooms have private balconies. The restaurant serves very good food and reasonable considering it is on a remote island with no other choices. All types of water sports and tours of the reef are available from the island or you can just snorkel or scuba on the reef from the resort. Staying at the resort makes seeing the reef a much more enjoyable way of seeing the reef vs. day trips.

We were lucky enough to stay for 3 amazing nights. Our room was fantastic and the staff were wonderful. Fish feeding at 5.00pm is a must we enjoyed it every night, then sunset drinks afterwards. We also had a picnic dinner on the beach and that was great sitting on the beach seeing shooting stars. Waring though the sea is a lot warmer than the pools apparently the sea water doesn't go below 25 degrees, so a dip in the pool was very refreshing!. Also go and see the crocodile farm well worth the money we went back a couple of times as your ticket last the whole of your stay. The glass bottom boats great way to see the reef and fish and we even saw Nemo!. Fantastic stay and we will return!

Since setting foot on the jetty we knew this was going to be a great experience for us.
With its incredible settings and helped by five days of glorious Queensland winter weather, the Green Island resort ticked all the boxes for us.

Staff: competent and helpful, from all over the world, staff at the resort were always ready to answer our questions and fulfill our requests. Very efficient and yet always keeping a low profile.

Rooms: clean with all the comforts, in the quiet setting of a lush tropical forest right outside your balcony.

Activities: access to all the usual beach gear, feel free to do absolutely nothing or join competent staff for forest walks, star gazing, fish feeding, night walks, glass bottom boat tours, all included.

Restaurant: outstanding breakfasts and dinners at the Emerald , not impressed by the Canopy grill, clearly catering more for the day trippers. $38.5 for a main at the Emerald ? Given the quality of the food and the service, we think it was well worthy.

Day trippers: we don't think it was that big spoiler. They tend to concentrate around the food area, the jetty and the patrolled beach. Plenty more things to do and places to see on and around the island, or maybe consider going there as a day tripper yourself and you won't notice ;-)

Croc farm: it's an independently operated business. These guys there are the real deal. If you think it's too tacky, focus on the crocodiles and that awesome beast called Cassius.

Conclusion: maybe we were lucky to experience such a great weather during our stay. Nevertheless, we think our stay there was money very well spent and wouldn't think twice about going back there.

Laura's favourite: sunset drinks at the picnic area.
Frank's favourite: sunrise walk around the island.

We'll give it 5 stars.

We arrived and my husband said "now we are on holiday" .. what a truly beautiful place. We stayed 2 nights, arrived on the first catamaran so had the whole day on the island and were lucky to have our room ready early- great when traveling with small children (16mo and 4yo). We fit into the room well, portacot provided and the room was just gorgeous. No view as such, but everything else made up for it. Our biggest challenge was stopping bubs putting things over the edge ! The island is just beautiful, low-tide gave us a chance to explore and our daughter loved it! There was nothing to complain about, even when 200+ arrived for the Quicksilver swim, we hardly noticed. The restaurant had beautiful food even despite a power outage one evening. It was on the pricey side, but our food was just lovely. Breakfast was excellent and lots of variety. The beach was great (beach chairs and umbrellas etc complimentary), snorkeling was fun, and you could just relax. The resort pool was a little too cold though, but we were there in June. Best part was when the daytrippers left :-) Yes it was quiet, but we met some lovely people and enjoyed the fish feeding and sunset drinks. My daughter loved the crocodile feeding and I enjoyed the solitude of an early morning walk around the island watching the sun come up. Highly recommend it for a stay. We were greeted by friendly staff, and everything was provided that we needed. If anything, I would just recommend keeping the pool bar open a bit longer after day trippers have gone home and improve the food quality at the island cafe for lunch. But very small things ! Thanks very much Green Island Resort, we are so glad we stayed 2 nights. (Oh and take sea sickness tablets if you need to ... didn't on the way over and regretted it).

Room Tip: We had a twin island room which was great for our family of four.

and thank you for the fabulous feedback! So glad you had just a great time.

Excellent advice about the sea sickness tablets - if you're worried it's always best to take them so you can hit the island with a full tank of energy!

(p.s. I'll pass your feedback along to the cafe crew as well:)

We booked overnight as our daughter was visiting from Brisbane and wanted more than a day trip. The whole experience was great and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves in spite of the unseasonal "wet" season weather!! The staff were very good from the beginning and could not do enough for you. Our room was spacious and though there was 3 sharing, there was enough room for all. The bathroom was enormous with full size bath as well as a separate shower recess, unusual these days. The only con about the room comfort is that the bed creaked whenever you moved or got in or out!! It was also a trifle hard. We were also unfortunate to have a loud group across from us who did not seem bothered that loud talking on the balcony at after 11pm might not be appreciated
As house guests we had unlimited use of the amenities while there, even after checkout. Although the crocodile exhibit was extra we went there and had a lovely experience seeing the crocs being fed, awesome!!
Food at the cafes during the day was quite good and reasonably priced, and it was good that we could get our meals and retire to the house guest pool area and eat in the tranquil setting away from the day trippers. The restaurant, the only option at night, was more expensive at $38.50 set price for all mains, however the food was good, with good portions. Unfortunately my daughters veal was overcooked but there was no hesitation when this was pointed out for another meal to be cooked for her, second time lucky!! I had lamb rack and in previous experiences elsewhere it has always been undercooked for my taste, but here I was asked how I liked it and got what I asked for.
The breakfast buffet was one of the best I have had anywhere and was sorry that I was not really hungry and could not do it justice. It was included in our package. It was pleasant when the day trippers left and we had the Island to ourselves. There is fish feeding followed by complimentary drinks (very generous) and nibbles before dinner.
All in all it was a lovely experience and would love to go back

We booked a trip to Green Island Resort for our 'babymoon' and glad we did. The room was spacious and very clean. Thank God the weather was pretty good most of the time otherwise I think we would have been very bored hanging around the resort. The only thing I can say is the lack of vibe/atmosphere the island/resort has, especially at night. As soon as the day time tourists leave, the resort is a ghost town and all the facilities close. When you come back from a day out of activities sometimes it would be nice to be able to go into the shop or get a massage. The facilities are there primarily for the tourists visitng rather than the house guests staying on the island. In saying that, I cannot complain though as the service was excellent overall and we had a fantastic experience. We would definitely want to come again - next time with kids!

Room Tip: We stayed in a Reef Suite and I would recommend this to anyone thinking of staying at the resort. Th...
