“A delightful find!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 2, 2013

We stayed one night on Green Island and were hugely disappointed.......by the fact we should have stayed longer!

The resort, although highly priced, in my opinion is worth every cent. Our accommodation fee included boat transfers, buffet breakfast which was delicious, all hire gear such as snorkels etc, night time nature walk, fish feeding, glass bottom boat, exclusive use of day lounge and facilities for use after checkout, and absolutely beautiful accommodation!

We were greeted on the jetty on arrival, and taken to checkin and escorted to our room. Luggage is taken from the boat and arrives at your room for you. The room with choccies on bed in the evening is beautifully furnished, and big enough for our family of four.

Yes as already mentioned the place is mad with day trippers for 7 hours of the day, but if you spend the day snorkelling the amazing reef you won't be bothered.

Our kids loved the marine life whilst safe enough for my 4 year old too snorkel seeing reef sharks, huge turtles, sting rays , amazing variety of fish, huge sea clams, star fish and much more.

The restaurant serves amazing food of high quality and prices aren't too crazy for a 5 star resort on a tropical island......we pay much more at a 5 star city hotel! Staff are all extremely friendly and professional.

Forget Cairns, Port Douglas or the Daintree, this place was magical and reminded us so much of our annual Fijian island resort experiences!

If I had to say something negative it would be to suggest that the hotel has its own sectioned off area of the patrolled beach for hotel guests only.

Two hours from Brissie then a 50 minute boat trip you can escape normal life and relax in a beautiful hotel on a lovely Eco friendly island.,...we will be back and I suggest 3-4 nights to truly benefit all it has too offer......we had a wonderful 24 hours.

Room Tip: Any room is lovely!

Long overdue review of this lovely island.
Once the tourists leave for the day it is paradise! A private beach, excellent welcome drinks (where we met the incredibly friendly residents of the Island who own the Crocodile Park), wonderful food in the restaurant and great service.
Highly recommend paying the differennce in the day trip to stay the night! All equipment included in rate and some extras too!

Room Tip: We had 2 queen beds with ample room for a cot, perfect for the night!

I am so glad that we read so many reviews before coming to stay on the Green Island Resort because we were fully prepared for the onslaught of daytrippers - sounds like it can be quite a shock when people aren't prepared. It truly is a different place between 4:30pm-9:30 am, it's quiet, serene and peaceful - we felt like we had it all to ourselves and had so many wonderful experiences. One morning we walked around the entire island on the beach and did not see a soul except for turtles, tons of sea birds and even possibly a dugong (manatee!). On our Thanksgiving night, the staff prepared us a LOVELY surf & turf picnic dinner that my hubby and I had on a blanket at sunset on the beach - again we were all alone and it was absolutely magical, a holiday we will never forget.

The staff here are incredibly nice and friendly for the most part, though the reception/intake process was helpful but felt quite rushed and factory-lined. Our room was incredibly gorgeous and luxurious and we loved spending time on our balcony, seeing nothing but tropical greenery and hearing all of the birds while we sipped on our coffee in the mornings.

For price, I can honestly say we've NEVER spent this much on lodging before, though our booking did include breakfast buffet (delicious!), drinks on the beach at sunset each night (such a fun way to meet other people), snorkeling around the island AND a snorkeling day trip. Plus, there was free fish feeding, a glass bottom boat, night-time walks, star-gazing, a crocodile farm and all sorts of other services we never even had time to explore!

Now, to the day trippers. Truly, once 9:30 comes around, it's an absolute circus, the island becomes totally crowded. My recommendation is to do what we did and either get off the island on a snorkeling trip during the day or reserve beach chairs as far down the beach as possible so you have a place to stake out - chairs are only for resort guests. Yes, it's crowded but there are ways around it and honestly, once you're out snorkeling, it's fine. There is a resort-only pool if you truly need to escape. My big complaint with the daytime is the spa closes at 4:30 and must be open to everyone because we were NEVER able to book spa services and we were so disappointed - plus there was no assistance from reception to try to accommodate us there.

So, if you know all that going into it - it's still a glorious place to stay with that feeling of a tropical getaway, luxury rooms, and delicious food...it was exactly what we wanted!

Room Tip: we had emailed in advance requesting a room away from the pool area as that would be much noisier.

I recommend getting to the island early to fit in all the activities that are available. We only stayed one night but I would stay two if going again. Great amenities inside and outside your room. Only bad thing, if any, was that all the front doors to each room slam every time and the room smelt a little musty on arrival(thats the tropics for ya) but otherwise a great stay!

We spent 3 nights at the Green Island Resort for total solar eclipse in November 2012. The resort staff was well prepared for this event and made every effort to see that we enjoyed the early morning eclipse in comfort. From the First Aid Station, the "Grab & Go" breakfast, the "eclipse kit" with beach blankets and viewing glasses, etc...the attention to detail and was much appreciated. As we walked across the island at 2am we were pleasantly surprised to see the staff already busy at work preparing for their eclipse "enthusiasts". Yes, there are day-trippers, but the day of the eclipse they added to the festive atmosphere of the post eclipse experience. If you are staying on Green Island and wish more privacy, the rooms and pool area for the guests provide a quiet escape. We cannot thank the everyone on Green Island enough for all their efforts, it was a memorable experience.

Room Tip: Our room was on the second floor with a view of the pool. I enjoyed sitting on the balcony looking...

The resort is on a small coral cay island. There are no roads and no cars. We saw only one internal combustion vehicle during our three night stay; it was a small tractor for pulling supplies from A to B. This resort has a split personality. Many of the facilities are available to the day trippers, but once you enter the resort itself, or after 4:30 PM, you don't really notice them. The hotel rooms are in many small buildings that are connected by boardwalks. Our room, with a king, was attractively done in wood floors and wood shutters and it had a large bathroom. It also had a balcony with furniture, but ours was right next to the forest. The LCD television had a sleep timer. The check-in process was above average, and included being guided to your room, which is almost a necessity. The staff was helpful, efficient and exceptionally friendly. I give a special mention to Alyssa, who did an excellent job conducting the daily fish feeding, the nightly star gazing and the nighttime nature walk. By the way, that was all the evening entertainment. There was a lounge where guests could obtain Internet access for a reasonable fee, as well as complimentary tea or coffee. The room rate included the snorkelling equipment, which guests could keep for the duration of their stay, and the glass bottom boat rides (which we did four times in our three night stay). We were very pleased with the quality of the snorkelling that we had from the beach. It was neat to have the island all to ourselves before and after the day trippers were there. We enjoyed the Emerald restaurant, and we believed its prices were in line with the quality of the food.

My husband and I came here as part of our honeymoon and were happy with some aspects, but overall found it to be disappointing especially given the amount they charge. Most everything that people say on these reviews is true, but we found that the negatives overshadow the positives. A beautiful beach is not hard to find in this part of the world, so most of the positives would be available anywhere! Yes, there are day trippers and they really REALLY overtake the place. Seriously, 9:30 hits and they are everywhere! There is no private beach for resort guests. Once the last ship leaves, the island basically shuts down except for one restaurant which is more expensive than I felt the quality deserved. Also, we were there on our honeymoon and expected only couples but there were kids all over the place (resort guests as well as day trippers) including the resort-only pool (which we had hoped would be more of a respite from the tourists, kids, obnoxious people, etc.). Most of this stuff wouldn't have bothered us if not for the price they charge. It just wasn't worth it.
