The ferry trip over is about 45 minutes, on a beautiful day, if you can sit upstairs outside and take in the gorgeous weather that Queensland is known for. Once on the island, you can either take a few walking trails, educational as they have signs along the paths that tell you about the vegitation and wildlife. Or you can sit by the FOXY bar and drink n eat if you like, then swim. Make sure you take thongs to walk on the shore line, as the washed up coral can hurt your feet. There is accommodation over there, and you can hire snorkles, flippers, and kayak's, but this is cheaper if you book this all before you get there!

We stayed here for 3 nights and it wasn't enough. I just couldn't get enough of the snorkeling. I saw many turtles, blue starfish and a number of colouful tropical fish as well as a few different species of coral. Being only 45 mins ferry ride from Cairns city its a fantastic getaway and as soon as you step of the jetty you feel calm and relaxed. When were there it was a little cool, I hired a wet suit from the dive centre for $10 per day which meant I could be in the water for as long as I liked. We did the summit walk which is quite steep but definetly worth the views. The walk to the lighthouse was ok, it was on the exposed side of the island and also quite an energetic venture. The island is limited with its food and dining options, but the cafe and restaurant were ok. The cocktails were great and the food was average. The island could do with more eateries and possibly a day spa to massage out those knotted calf muscles from the summit walk. The cabins were comfortable and clean. The staff friendly and helpful. We did the night glass bottomed boat. We saw lots of coral including 5000 year old boulder, a large crayfish, some fluorescent fish and jumping fish. Not as colorful as day time fish. Highly recommend this location to those looking for something quiet and relaxing. One of its appealing features is that its not over commercialized.

We travelled to Fitzroy Island in the hope that we would find some easy snorkeling off the beach. We were not disappointed. The beach is nice, the snorkeling is incredibly easy. There is no need to stay at the hotel, you can easily cross over on the ferry and enjoy a good afternoon of activities. Highly recommend it.

The campground looks nice and spacious and close to the beach. But why they are charging $35 per night is a mystery to me.
The showers are cold and after inquiring at the reception, this was not a temporary thing...
Also, the toilet (and cold showerblocks) smell horrible.
There are no lights between the resort and the campground at night so I was glad I took my phone to the restaurant.
The lady at reception did not seem to care as she kept on saying that the campground is managed by Parks QLD and they only do the bookings for them.
Also, they are building here and they started to make noise at 7 AM!
The resort sees you as a piece of dirt because you are not a resort guest.
I have camped all over Australia and this wasn't so bad if they asked for a more reasonable price. But for $35 per tent per night, you expect the minimum luxuries a campground CAN offer.
Take your own food to the Island because the restaurant offers tasteless food and service.
The girl at the pub ( Giulia?) was really nice though! Excellent and personal service.

A great location for a family weekend. Terrific variety of activities centered on the fringing barrier reef. You could save some cash by not going diving and spending time here. Snorkeling is great with all the usual reef attractions including turtles, sharks, rays, clown fish, coral. The summit walk is a belter with 360 degree views for little effort. The island has a good mix of luxury to tent accommodation and is well served with a variety of ferry's from Cairns.
