We spent a lovely afternoon at Fitzroy island. We went over on the Fast cat at 11am which arrived at the island just before midday. Back in Cairns the weather was overcast and spitting with rain. The sky and sea were gray and gloomy but over on Fitzroy the sun was shining and the sea was a beautiful blue. We headed straight over to Foxy's restaurant for lunch. Service was a bit slow and food was average, but the view out to sea was nice.
We did the glass bottom boat tour but visibility was poor. Several places that the boat regularly stops at for coral viewing just had no visibility at all. The coral we did see was not what you hope for - very colorless and not many fish either.
I recommend the walk to Nudey's Beach - lovely walk through the forest, lots of steps so not for any one with mobility issues. The beach itself is very picturesque and nice for photos.
That was all we had time for as the last fast cat back to Cairns is at 5pm. A full day there would have been good (depending on the weather). Definitely a pretty place to spend a day at.
