“Pretty island, average resort”
Reviewed January 21, 2014

Spent 2 nights on Fitzroy Island recently. The island itself is pretty with beautiful turquoise water and tropical vegetation. Most beaches coral, so not super comfortable for walking or laying on. Snorkelling was ok, but does not compare with snorkelling on the outer barrier reef. Saw lots of colourful fish but not much coloured coral. I was a bit disappointed with the resort and facilities. Stayed in an ocean suite, thought decor was on the tacky side and the bathroom layout very weird. Shower with no screen right next to toilet which you can't help getting wet. After shower water all over the bathroom floor and on toilet. I wouldn't call this luxury accommodation.

Was invited to a wedding recently on the Island. It was lovely. The staff where great at the wedding and overall. Great little island to get away from it all. The snorkelling is fantastic. We saw a number of turtles, lots of fish and corals all in a short distance from the beach. Rooms where roomy and comfortable. We had a couple of little issues (there was 17 of us) but all were sorted and with no fuss. Staff are friendly and helpful. Had the best fun on the trampoline ring. The shop has only minimum stock, so suggest bring own snacks etc. Food in the restaurant and Foxy's is very good, especially the prawns at Foxy's. The prices are a little expensive, but other islands charge a lot more. Suggest bringing water shoes as the beach is mainly coral.
Am already planning my next holiday here.

Room Tip: A room with a veranda is recommended. Take your own snorkelling gear as it costs $15.00per day. Stin...

Travelling from Manchester England this was one of my many places to visit. Very easy to reach via boat $69 return for an adult 45 minute journey. Amazing island with lots to do in the daytime. Snorkelling, diving, swimming, trampoline on the water, pool, swim up bar.
A must is to see the turtle hospital. You can snorkel near the white rock to the right of the beach front to see turtles in the sea. Amazing! Stinger suits only $10 to hire and great idea to prevent sunburn and being stung!
Hotel rooms are lovely, very clean, fresh towels and complimentary mini toiletries. Coffee making facilities, fridge and tv. $144 per night. Recommend at least 2 nights stay.
Didn't try the restaurant as I was happy at Foxy's bar for snacks. Drinks very reasonable with great cocktails in Foxy's bar. Recommend the Echo Geko!
Recommend taking snacks with you and extra drinks as bar closes between 9/10pm if not busy. On site shop limited for food and drinks. Also don't forget basic medication eg paracetamol or panadol as nothing available if you need them.
Foxy's bar has a singer but he wasn't on whilst I was visiting. Staff are excellent on the bars.
Special thanks to Jerone, Ryan and Phil for taking care of me during my stay. Made it most enjoyable and entertaining. Please say thank you.

Room Tip: All rooms are good. The island is too lovely to stay in your room so make the most of the outdoors.

The resort is simply great. They have local rates, rooms are spacious and clean, there's entertainment for kids and adults (3 movies a day, games room, equipment for water activities and a water trampoline), a fantastic swimming pool bar and bartender (thank you Simone), choice of continental or hot breakfast, restaurant with a breathtaking view, delicoous dishes (i loved the tartare!) and normal prices (we expected higher prices being the only restaurant on the island but actually we found it cheaper than sone places in Norhern Beaches!), impeccable service and a spot on position, right on the reef! We did some snorkelling in front of the Turtle Rehab Centre snd saw lots of colourful reef fishes, three turtles and a blue seastar! You can also hike and look for the minitor lizards. Make yourselves a gift and spend a couple of relaxing days on this beautiful island!

i spent my 21st at fitzroy island resort. as i was 5 1/2 months pregnant i was looking forward to relaxing on a tropical island.
we originally booked an ocean view room but we changed when we realised how far away it was from the beach (my partner just broke his ankle so wasn't keen on walking heaps). i spoke to the front desk and arranged to be transferred to a beachfront cabin. we had to wait a little while as the rooms were still getting clean. but that was totally cool as we just went and sat on the beach anyway. it was much nicer being a few steps from the beach. the verandah on the cabin is really small, but why would you sit there when there's a beach! well, it did rain while we were there so we ended up having to use the verandah lol, but the roof needs to come out a bit more cause you still get wet sitting there. there's no cooking facilities in the cabins, i think they should have some in there. there's a few walks on the island, and you can book reef tours as well. there's also a big floating trampoline, i wish i could have jumped on it. looked like so much fun, being so pregnant i didnt think it was such a good idea! there is coral right out front of the beach, a lot of it has been damaged and died though which is really sad. we got buffet breakfast with our room deal. it was so delicious. i ate so much! we had dinner one night at the zephyr restaurant. the food was nice, but way overpriced. you dont get much on your plate either. i wouldn't recommend eating there. i suggest going to the bar bit further down the beach, the food is cheaper there and just as tasty. plus a nice relaxed vibe. i would recommend coming here if you wanna spoil yourself and enjoy some island time.. if your on a budget, they offer beautiful grassy campsites..

Room Tip: we really enjoyed our beachfront cabins.. small, but you don't spend your holiday in your room a...

We have just returned from a short holiday at Fitzroy Island and can highly recommend it to couples and families. The aim of our short break (away from our teenagers) was to relax and do absolutely nothing by the pool. No sight seeing, no resort activities, just rest and more rest and Fitzroy was perfect for that. We purchased a 3 night Groupon package because the package suited our needs. It offered accommodation in a studio resort room (located at the back of the resort), full breakfast every day, ferry transfers and a free bottle of sparkling house wine (that we swopped for a bottle of sav blanc). After reading some of the negative reviews I then started to worry about what we had purchased. However I shouldn't have. The ferry trip to and from the island was great, we were greeted by the GM and the Assistant GM on the jetty on arrival. Check-in was speedy and then we were headed to our room (329) on the 3rd level down the end (so less traffic going past our door each day). As we opened our door, we held our breath but we needn't have worried. The room was exactly as shown on their website, very clean, comfortable and very cool. I had my husband prepared to pay for an upgrade but neither of us thought it was necessary, it was great the way it was. There is only two dining options on the island - Zephyrs and Foxy's. Foxy's serves pub type food, very enjoyable and in the early evening it is very pleasant sitting at the outside tables to watch the sun disappear whilst sipping on a cocktail. You can also get your meals to takeaway if you prefer. Zephyrs is more upmarket offering lovely views as well and is where you go to have breakfast. Speaking of breakfast, after all the comments we read, we were pleasantly surprised. It offers all that you need to start the day without going overboard. The full breakfast included the usual hot dishes - bacon, sausages, eggs x 2 ways etc etc + fresh fruit, cereal, pastries, juices, cheese, yoghurts, several types of bread, crumpets, muffins - more than enough. As for activities, plenty were on offer but as I previously said, we were there for rest, rest and more rest. I enjoyed the pool and my husband enjoyed the beach. We had great weather and a great time. I think some times when you do reviews you have to take into account what you are paying for and trying to achieve from your holiday. If you want 5 star and action packed with water activities, then Fitzroy isn't for you, maybe look at Hayman but if you want a great place to relax, do a few National Park walks or lots of snorkelling, then have a very close look at Fitzroy. We would also like to compliment the resort staff who all seemed lovely and very helpful.

Room Tip: Ask for Room 329 if there is only the 2 of you and you have a resort studio room booked. It is at t...
