9 nights of pure rest and relaxation. Room was fantastically clean, very close to the beach, the staff were amazing and very helpful. Something to do each day if we wanted. Yep loved the bifold doors, and the airconditioning on at night. Aqua shoes a must to make walking around the island more comfortable, especially on the beach. We did take supplies of groceries with us, and enjoyed the well presented kitchen. Being from NZ with the exchange rate at 75% of our dollar the meals were a little expensive, but delicious none the less. Never once experienced any rudeness from the staff. The little shop was well stocked. Thanks to Doug, Glen and team.
Anne and Colin.

Room Tip: Definitely not less than the 2nd floor, preferably the third floor level.

We stayed here over the weekend (so 2 nights) for the end of our honeymoon which was 2 weeks. We arrived on Friday and they had managed to squeeze us in on the 7.30am ferry instead of the 2.30pm which was nice of them so we got an extra 5 hours or so on the island. The ferry that takes you over has to have some of the rudest crew I have ever met. They walk around with grumpy looks on their faces and their overall manner is just rude, they don't make you feel welcome or anything so that was disappointing to start off with.

Once we arrived we were able to keep our luggage in the luggage room which was helpful because our room wasn't ready so we could explore the island in the meantime. We had a look at the restaurant for breakfast but you only have 2 buffet options - hot or cold continental breakfast which is $15-$25pp so we opted for the hot breakfast. I mean, $50 total for breakfast was just ridiculous but you cant just order off the menu which was annoying. The breakfast was great though, very filling, lots of variety. Although the last day we left they didnt have any bbq sauce and my partner cant eat tomato sauce so he went and asked the chef for some and was told there wasnt any! On the first day there was and then the second day there was none, so this got on my nerves and I went up and complained and miraculously the FOUND some! I think the chef was just lazy. But apart from the the breakfast was awesome. As far as food goes, you are better off cooking in your own apartment. There is only the restaurant and Foxy's bar to eat for dinner and there is only Foxy's open for lunch but they have the same lunch and dinner menu - so there is hardly any variety. Plus when you receive your food (which is about 10 minutes after ordering - so quite quick) its COLD! It is like they have it already all cooked up in the kitchen and then they just dish it out upon order - I could receive hotter and fresher meals if I went to mcdonalds! The staff are absolutely hopeless, at one time we were waiting to get drinks and there was 5 people standing behind the counter just looking around, its like they didnt want to serve us so that was quite frustrating. The other thing was I expected the atmosphere in the bar at night to be a bit more upbeat and a lot busier but it was like everyone didnt want to eat there so there was not many people around at all. They had on the signs as well that there was live music both nights but there wasnt, just a playlist on that kept repeating the same songs over and over until someone finally realised and they changed it.

There is just no variety on the island whatsoever, and the convenience store has only sandwiches and pies and they charge an absolute fortune because they can.

As far as the rooms go, the rooms are quite nice. Very stylish and modern. We had an ocean suite with a full kitchen on the lowest level. The view from the balcony was quite nice, palm trees and beach :) I would NOT recommend being on the lower floor if you are staying here though, the noise from everyone upstairs is just terrible. It's like you are in your own 2 storey home! We had to complain 3 times to management to get the people above us to be quiet and it wasnt until 1am in the morning that they actually shut up. I am sure management didn't even call them as it took over 3-4 hours for some peace and quiet. They even told us they had a no noise policy (but there were no signs anywhere stating this, so unless people have some common decency how would they know to be quiet at night) so our last night there was terrible. I was up at 6 the next morning just waiting until it was time to check out because I just wanted to leave. The air con in our room wasnt working until we had complained to reception and our bedroom fan would decide to turn itself off randomly. They didnt fill up our toilet paper so we had to go and ask reception for some more the next day which was quite embarrassing! And we met a couple coming over on the ferry and they were saying they had to change rooms because all the springs in their mattress broke! The atm was out of order the whole time we were there and the lifts were not working either so I felt sorry for anyone who was up on the top levels. They have a cinema in the resort as well which we utilised but good luck finding a chair to sit on that isnt broken!

As far as the location goes, it was absolutely beautiful. The beach is amazing, minus the coral as that can hurt your feet a bit and be quite uncomfortable. I took some absolutely amazing photos and the walk to the "lighthouse and the summit" is really good but prepare to be sore for a few days after. The incline on most of the walk in massive! Your legs even struggle trying to get down because you have to constantly stop yourself from running. It's worth it though for the views at the end.

Overall I was quite disappointed with the whole resort. The location is just stunning and the views are amazing but I would not return here ever again simply based on the staff and the resorts facilities/food available.

Room Tip: Do not get a lower level room as you will not be able to get to sleep and you will be up at the crac...

I recently spent 4 nights here with my best friend. Overall, I was disappointed. The coral in the main snorkelling areas is absolutely trashed, thanks to anchor dragging, trampling, bleaching and general carelessness. I did not see a single sign on the island which advised people not to walk on the coral. The resort is OK but nothing special, it lacks character and could have been designed much better. The staff were very helpful, apart from the dive shop staff who were always so busy we never actually got to the front of the queue. The restaurant is very good with great food, more seafood would have been nice. I was concerned at the resort's lack of environmental responsibility, many of the garden plants are already spreading along the beach and are going to become major weeds if they are not controlled. The best parts of the island are Nudey Beach (apart from the coral) and the walk up to the lighthouse. If you are happy to sit on a verandah and look at a nice view, Fitzroy is fine. If you want to see beautiful coral, gorgeous beaches and generally get more value for money, go to Fiji. That's where I'll be taking my family again, not Queensland.

Room Tip: Beach cabins are OK (they are not free-standing but semi-deatched) but I thought the 3rd level appar...

I love Fitzroy Island Resort. The hotel is less than 2 years old. We had an apartment with a fully functioning kitchen and my my mum had the adjacent room and a bathroom. The rooms are beautifully appointed, black marble bathroom and modern kitchen. Bi-Fold doors that open to the balcony, from the living room and bedroom. So you can leave the doors open at night and here the ocean! I love that you can walk down to the beach and snorkel straight off the beach. Beautiful array of fishes, of all colours and size and the coral, near the end of Welcome Bay, is so varied and beautiful, it is like a garden under the sea. You don't need to venture to the reef on a day tour because it is all here! The resort pool is beautiful with a swim up bar. In house cinema, shows 3 movies a day for free. Foxy's bar is a casual bar/restaurant, that is completely open (no walls), so you can have a cocktail at 4.30pm, Happy Hour and look out at the ocean and scenery. There is a dive shop, that will book everything from diving courses to glass bottom boat tours. Bring your own snorkel gear or hire it here for $15 a day. There is a restaurant here, if you don't want to cook dinner for yourself, with excellent food. For a family, this place is perfect, as you can prepare meals in the kitchen. There is a pontoon/trampoline, you can swim out too and have some fun or just sunbake at the pool. We will be back next year, cheaper than going to Asia and the water is clean to swim in, no floating rubbish and the drinking water is safe to drink from the tap! Not to mention the best snorkeling I have seen anywhere and straight off the beach.

Room Tip: If you want to cook, get an apartment and you also get a view of the ocean included. Will sleep 4, b...

We recently stayed on fitzroy island which was meant to be for 6 nights - we left after 2.

OUR ROOM

Our room smelt mouldy, the air conditioning vents were mouldy and dirty. The fridge mould all over it (will add a picture of this) dents in the walls, chairs broken, sheets stained, filthy toilet and shower, door on shower would not close so bathroom flooded every time we showered.

FOOD - SERVICE

The food at the restaurant was ok the service was nice. For breakfast we purchased the hot continental which was not great at all. However not much variety on the menu and for an island not much sea food to choose from.
Foxy's was terrible - very dirty and VERY rude staff. Very slow to be served than slow to receive drinks and meals.

The swim up bar shuts quite early which was disappointing.

The dive shop was another disappointment - we went in to get some information and a young staff member really wasn't interested in us and when she spoke kept her lolly pop in her mouth - very rude service.

We arrived on the Monday at 3pm and when I had asked where we could get something to eat was told everything was shut - I could go to the tiny little convenience store which had hardly anything on the shelves.

On the Wednesday morning we went to reception and complained about the room smelling mouldy and being dirty. We were given another room key and told to go look at another room and if we liked it could move to the top floor - this room smelt a tiny bit cleaner however was very dirty as per our first room. We told the gentleman this was not good enough we want to leave the island with a refund of the nights remaining

He spoke with his manager and told us because we booked through flight centre that wouldn't happen. We called our consultant who sorted out we would receive 3 nights refund.

When the manager John spoke to us he was quite rude and said "I'm not going to get into an argument over who is right and who is wrong but these are the highest level of rooms, we never have these complaints"

Well maybe he should check the reviews being left because it seems to be a common complaint.

We are just going through and about to lodge a formal complaint.

As a honeymoon couple we were VERY disappointed!

Many thanks for taking the time to detail your thoughts, we are obviously very disappointed with your impressions of the Resort and certainly take on board any aspects of service or facilities where we could improve on and will certainly act on any relevant comments. As mentioned however, we are a little disappointed that the comments made have not detailed the efforts a number of staff made in assisting in addressing those concerns raised during your stay and certain efforts that appeared to be greatly appreciated at the time have now been misrepresented. We strive to ensure we deliver a quality product and level of service and are committed to taking all comments from guests very seriously in our efforts to further enhance our guests experience and fully appreciate that sometimes for what ever reasons, whether within our beyond our control some guests may not be happy, however as mentioned are committed to ensure this is the minority of outcomes as clearly is the case when looking at our overall comments and star rating on this very site. Again we thank you for your comments.

What a wonderful island! The resort is amazing, the facilities and pool fabulous! Staff were very attentive, the resort is very well run. We visited the turtle rescue centre, 'nudie beach' and swam the reef with fishies just meters off the beach. Definately returning for a longer stay.

We spent 3 days at Fitzroy in October 2011 with a group of friends. The island and location are stunning with empty beaches and the option to go diving or walk around the island (again has stunning views). Our room was at the back of the hotel and the only view was of the rock face at the back of the hotel. The room on the whole was clean and well presented however there was a very mouldy type of smell (this was consistant with the other members of our party) when we first walked in but did disappear. The restaraunt was ok - the first night we very much enjoyed as the food was excellent and our waitress enhanced our dining experience however on the 2nd night despite us requesting the same table, which we didnt get there was also a catalogue of communication failures which were poorly managed by the maire d' and the food wasn't in the same league as our first night. We spoke to a couple of people who had booked into the resort for 1 week expecting more and they felt misinformed, for us it was a perfect location not to do much as most of us had just arrived in QLD from the UK so all had endured the long journey and looking forward to a few days of chill out but that is pretty much all you can do. The management of the hotel have really missed an opportunity for this resort as it is the only one on the island - the bars are all closed by 8pm and the restaraunt is closed by 10pm so nowhere to have a drink and relax further (unless you take your own!)

Thank you for your comments, as previously mentioned in other reviews the property has in a very short time gone from a dormant and abandoned shell to fully operational property offering a range of quality activities and facilities. We do promote a very relaxed environment for our guests whilst offering choices to those looking for a little more activity. The property whilst being well established does have many plans for further additions and facilities such as a Spa and Sauna, gym and further activities. We will ensure we keep everyone up to date with such information through our website. We thank you for your comments and will certainly utilise them in our efforts to continue to further improve on what is already a very popular and well received product.
