Decent room at a fair price but as usual all the extras are ridiculous. Internet price was outrageous as was the restaurant. Had a visitor over from Canada and he was amazed at the charges. The location was very good, but if you were planning on staying I would seriously consider looking at a hotel that has a pool.

no fuss stay, for 3 adults. Booked at very good price through Accor and as we needed 2 rooms and it was just an overnighter close to the function we were attending in Palmer st street ,it perfectly suited. ONE issue was that the beds could have been bigger ,very average queen bed.

We chose Ibis Townsville in late October for one night primarily for the location. It's indeed very close to all the attractions that the the city has to offer. Bu the check-in staff was somewhat indifferent and not particularly welcoming.Parking is easy to find and free. No complaints about the room but the bathroom was a little bit smaller and has a claustrophobic feel.

On the day of our checkout, our key did not work when we got back after breakfast and I had to go downstairs reception twice to eventually get a new key issued. Other than the staff incompetency, the hotel provided a good value and will stay there again for the location if the price is right.

Overall, I would recommend the Ibis as a place to stay overnight, I would probably not recommend more than one night. The rooms, while clean, are quite small. Ideal for couples, not for families. The Service & Value were of a high standard. Location for eating out is good as Palmer Street is lined with restaurants. For the shopping centres, it is not ideally based as the nearest shopping centre (castletown) is approximately 10 min drive away.

After checking in, found $200 pre-auth on my debit card. (apparently this was room cost $150+$50 hold). No problem.
At checkout, I asked the receptionist to take the room cost direct from the $200 pre-auth, and to refund me the rest. She said that would be no problem, but there was a $2.25 charge for use of CREDIT card.
Checked my account later and found my account charged an EXTRA $152.25 and the $200 pre-auth still in place. At this point I had "paid" $352.50 for a $150 room.
I rang and asked for the pre-auth to be lifted immediately as I had direct debits due from that account, and couldn't transfer extra funds into it while in Qld.
Some three hours later, after several phone calls between myself, your Staff member Kara and my credit union, (+ a fax), the matter was finally resolved.
Apparently I should not have been charged the $2.25 either, as I used a DEBIT card.
This could all have been prevented if the check out person had done as she said she would.

I was going to say this was a standard Ibis in a good location (middle of restaurant row, close to CBD), and leave it at that (just about), but on check out I was presented with an extra charge for payment by credit card. There was no mention of this at time of booking, and at check in apparently it is in the small print of the form you are asked to sign, plus it is also on a card on reception (but this had fallen down)

I was told this was standard practice throughout ACCOR group. Whether just in Oz I do not know, as I cannot find any mention on the ACCOR.com website.

Now as, I would guess, at least 90% of hotel guests pay by cc, this ought to be a moneyspinner for the hotel, but surely the admin must outweigh the income.

The other guests checking out at the same time as us were also unhappy with the charge.

The daft thing is that even with the charge, the hotel is decent value, and surely an increase in room rate by a tad would remove any bad feeling - room artes vary so much, no-one would notice.

I have emailed ACCOR Australia and await their reply with interest.

ACCOR group are now off my hotel list.

Rating has ignored the cc charge.
