“Stodgy and tasteless”

Be warned DONT GO HERE. The lasagna is the WORST I HAVE EVER TASTED, it had the texture of mashed potato, so it was a blob of stodge. I dont know how they managed to do this, but I wondered if it had been reheated too many times, it was dry and didn't look fresh. Another dish was fettucini pasta swimming in liquid cream in a bowl with a megre sprinkle of bacon on the top. The cheesecake was gritty and had a thick lard type base, horrible. We went for the Sicilian dinner, which is not the same menu they have on their website by the way. There was no artichoke lemon tartlets, beef cotoletta or chicken cacciatore. They only had pasta dishes and a soup on the menu. For entree we had the rice balls with motzerella cheese in the middle. I agree with TGreen from Cairns that this food is bland and tastless. Worse than cafeteria food. A teenager could cook better than this. This is not the place for dinner. Also we had to get up and order our dinner at the till (like a cafeteria) and pay for it in advance (I can now see why). If this business (which is normally a coffee shop) is going to offer a special dinner menu on a Friday and Saturday night and charge accordingly, then the staff should come over to the table and take the order, the staff weren't doing anything else and they had no other customers to serve.

If the chef thinks this food is okay, think again. How a business can serve this type of food up to people and think they will like it is a mystery. The prices weren't cheap and did not reflect the standard of the food. For the prices we paid we would have been better off going to a higher end restaurant for not much more. A complete disappointment and ruined our special celebration. I wont ever be stepping foot inside this place again.

“Unbelievable”

Unbelievable food, brilliant service, huge serves and not a bit left on our plates, so impressed with this traditional Sicilian food and service. Well worth a visit.

“Extremely disappointing.”

I'm very sorry to say but we didn't like much about this place. Had high expectations. Sicilian dinner - Peasant Feast. Sounded delicious! We turned up having made a reservation. We were offered a table near the road and the cars or a table right on the footpath, Chose the footpath on the uneven paving with a rickety table not much bigger than our dinner plates! Not much room for a bottle of wine and glasses etc.
Presented the lady with our bottle of wine, she said for us to take it out to the table. It was white wine and no ice bucket was offered at any stage so we had a bottle of white wine sitting on our table all night.
It was not busy but the food took forever to come out. I thought it was very bland and tasteless. The arancini balls were a good size, but tasted of nothing, supposedly stuffed with cheese and peas, but could hardly find any. They were served on a wire rack, making it impossible to eat them with the sauce provided. Requested a plate! I was looking forward to my main of Mozarella stuffed meatballs, but once again, tasteless.
Needless to say, we skipped dessert.
To top it off, when we went to pay, their eftpos machine was down, so they sent us walking around the corner to an atm.

“Little, but lovely!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 7, 2013

This little gem of a café is a favourite place of ours for coffee and homemade scones. But they are a cheerful and enterprising lot and do fabulous breakfasts for the early walkers and kayak paddlers from Townsville’s sea front Strand ('the best scrambled eggs in town') as well as great lunches with an Italian feel, fresh baked bread (I love the sourdough), pies, pastries & cakes etc. The place is not large, but you can eat inside or outside in a semi shaded area or pop in to see what they have on the Deli counter. When we were there last they had a wall display of old black & white family photographs brought in by local customers – quirky and fascinating. If you’re in Townsville, it’s certainly worth a try.
