Visited pre cyclone Yasi. Resort was green and tropical and near the shore where you can walk and take in the scenery. Rooms average standard, though clean and quiet. Short drive to airport or to Townsville cettre or the Strand restaurant strip and beaches. You need a car. Dissapointed with restaurant, heavy food or overdressed salads. My caesar salad was grittyy with sand.

Stayed 4 nights over NY eve in 2bd apt. Room was clean, beds comfy, well appointed kitchen, lovely gardens, car parking close to room, small bathroom but coped, AC units were a little on the noisy side, but fresh towels everyday was a bonus. Outside BBQ was kept spotless. Only disappointment was the disinterested reception staff, don't expect a smile. Didn't use the restaurant as the menu appeared expensive. Overall we would stay again.

Seagulls Resort is nicely positioned just out of Townsville though easy walking distance to The Strand, Townsville's main attraction. The meandering garden paths and landscaped
pool area make Seagulls Resort a lovely place to relax and soak up some tropical sun.
Lacking was the personal touch. Our stay got off to an ordinary start when, on our Saturday night arrival, the restaurant kitchen closed at 8.55 on the dot and refused our albeit late reservation. A private party rocked on in the bar area whilst we ate take away pasta in our room. It was decided, we wouldn't eat in the restaurant. Buses run into the city regularly from just outside, just don't expect the reception to know.

The rooms were clean & well maintained; the garden setting and pools were lovely. We stayed there for 5 nights but felt more like a number than a name - customer service was fairly impersonal. You really need a car to stay there though. It's approx 40 min walk to city. The courtesy bus runs twice a day, at 9am & 12pm, Mon to Fri. & must be pre-booked. Public transport bus that stops outside the hotel ceases at 6pm; & doesn't run on Sundays; the Redbus that goes along the Strand ceases at 8.30pm.

We spent one night in this hotel. It looked very clean and the reception was kind. The food in the restaurant was very good. We asked for a quiet room but were unpleasantly surprised by the noise made by watering the garden. It seemed to go on all night.

We'd booked online with the resort directly, finding a two-bedroom apartment for just $150 or so a night. We'd come to Townsville from Melbourne via the Gold Coast following the Bulleen Boomers WNBL team, and this was a great place to relax after three days at Dreamworld, White Water World and Movie World! The bedroom were simply furnished, but the couch in the lounge was good, we had a table and chairs, a decent fridge and room to move around. The car could be parked ten or so metres from the front door.

The bar by the pool was great, serving great food to the poolside tables, and the pool lovely (even in the rain given it was very warm of course), but as others have noted be aware that there are insects everywhere. There's repellant under the bar - just ask! The other wildlife was entertaining: birds everywhere, plus frogs and lizards at every turn.

You need a car for this place, as it's not really near anything. Be prepared to drive down to The Strand for shops and restaurants, to the Magnetic Island boats' car park (tip: the stretched yellow moke tour of the island - wonderful), to the aquarium and museum and so on.

(The only downer was completely unrelated to the resort - our Sunday trip to the reef was cancelled due to 2m seas, whilst the replacement trip on Tuesday met the same fate due to 3m seas . . . something about two cyclones, wrong time of the year to visit and so on!)

We spent one night at Seagulls Resort on our way down the coast of queensland. Our room was cheap so we were not disappointed it was only a motel-like room. But anyway, it was clean, quiet and well equipped. The pools and the garden were very nice but when we stayed there there were thousands of mosquitos and we suffered for many days from our one hour at the pool... There's a reason why they put a mosquito-spray in every room. Breakfest was very good and freshly cooked. WLAN was offered for a few AUD. Quite a bit away from city.
