Owner description: Billabong Sanctuary is Australia's best interactive wildlife experience. There are interactive talks and feeding shows throughout the day commencing at 9:15 am. At these wildlife presentations you will learn all about the unique characteristics of Australia's native animals. The talks are not only informative but a lot of fun, so will have one of your best experiences at an Australian attraction. The native animals are displayed in their natural habitats of wetlands, eucalypt forest and rainforest. Highlights of the Sanctuary are holding a koala, hugging a wombat, hand feeding a cassowary, holding a small crocodile and wrapping a python around your neck. You will also be able to sit next to a dingo for a photo opportunity and watch feeding of giant estuarine or saltwater crocodiles. The wildlife presentations are repeated in the afternoons so nobody misses out. You can also return the following day with no extra charge. There are picnic areas with free gas barbecues or enjoy a meal at the Blinky Bill Cafe. You can also cool off in our tropically landscaped pool.

It was the perfect 2 hour stop for us when driving from Brisbane to Sydney. It was a very nice park with great staff and the value was excellent. It was a very good place for a tourist to see all the quintessential Australian animals.

There was also plenty of room - big area. And not too many people. I wish more people went to this place as it would surely be deserved.

Highly recommended!

We have been to Billabong Sanctuary twice, with our own kids and visiting family. Getting there early is the key to a wonderful day. Feeding the roos, seeing joeys in the pouch, turtle races, in the first few steps in the gate!
The passion the ppl who work here is just fantastic to witness, the educational aspect brought to children is something not to be missed. As adults we learnt so much especially about dingos, the lady who gave the talk about "King" the resident male, was so passionate about their survival it gave me goose bumps!!
On both occasions we visited we had the pics taken with wombats & kolas, paid each time, cost around $36 but worth it to see your kids at one with these wonderful creatures.
Swimming pool available to cool down in, bring ure esky and cook your own grub, nothing expensive with that eh!!!
I really think more adults could do with visiting Billabong, to learn & educate their children!! Check out Jeremy the snake handler, so informative he will have you dazed!!
We are taking out membership as it's a fantastic day out & gets kids out enjoying them selves & getting buckets loads of eduction without them knowing ;-)

Although we enjoyed our experience at the sanctuary - feeding the kangaroos, watching the crocodiles being fed, the interaction with the birds and koalas -I do think the entrance fee was expensive for the size of the sanctuary and the number of animals available to view. If you are in Townsville only, I would say go, if you are going to other larger cities I would go to another one. Healsville in Melbourne is awesome as is the zoo in Cairns. The staff are very knowledgable and friendly.

This little sanctuary is definitely worth a visit. It's a sweet wildlife reserve with plenty to see and do.

The animals are all animated and well looked after, and there's plenty of interactive exhibits. This was my first wombat handling experience and I was just beside myself with excitement and joy to have this opportunity.

From memory there were wombat talks and handling; koala talks and handling; and a reptile show as well.

All of the enclosures are all spotless and very obviously well maintained.

Sadly, owing to Cyclone Yasi in Jan 2011 much of the billabong had to be redeveloped and/or rebuilt, so they're a little further behind with their development efforts as a result of this natural disaster. But, their obvious perseverance will see this sanctuary continue to grow.

I've given a four, as I would reserve a five for something like Taronga or Western Plains Zoos, but I can only imagine over time, that fours will become fives.

We will return sometime this year.

In the Billabong Sanctuary you can see many typical australian animals. casuaries as well as salties and freshwater crocodiles, the 3 most dangerous snakes, lovely koalas, kangaroos and many birds, especially a kookaburra and 2 owls. The most interesting Events were the feeding of the crocs and the show with the snakes.
