I stayed here for just 1 night. The location is good, not in the CBD but close by. There's a weird rule that you can't access your car or use the carpark between 10:30pm and 7am and I thought only Gov't Departments had crazy rules. Just make sure you're back by 10:30 pm or no undercover carpark! The room was OK, but with stain marks and dated decor.. more like the 70s style. Staff were helpful and friendly. Room service food was absolutely superb. Ideal for short stays or business trips at the right price. 3 and a half stars.

Thanks for your comments in regards to your recent stay at Rydges Townsville. We have commenced painting and have an upgrade plan due to commence. The rule in relation to the under cover carpark is for security purposes. It allows travelling reps to leave the bulk of their products / samples in their cars and to sleep easy with the knowledge they will be secure. Once the key system upgrade is complete it will allow access for guests via a swipe card. This will occur towards the end of 2009.

I stayed in your spa suite around valantines day,and was quiet dissapointed with what we paid for. You charge a really high price for a very outdated hotel room. It was a hot night and the air conditioner failed to work. when we reported this to the duty manager, he was quiet rude about it and said that the problem was the humidity, not the airconditioner. After a lot of arguing we were finally granted a refund. we then went across the road to hotel ibis where we had a lovely stay in a room with an airconditioner that actually worked!

Hello,

Thank you for taking the time to review our hotel. I can advise that yes the air-conditioning problems that we have previously had have been resolved. With a considerable investment in capital expenditure we have now replaced the air-conditioning system completely.

The hotel is now looking forward to a long tropical North Queensland summer.

I have stayed in Townsville and at this hotel many times over the last 12 months. The hotel rooms are dated and the decor is straight out of the 70's but the rooms I stayed in have always been spacious and clean. I have always found the staff to be helpful and courteous.

If this hotel were located in a major city it would certainly fall well below the mark but as far as accommodation options in Townsville are concerned, you could certainly do a lot worse.

Our child was sick - and the hotel were very unhelpful. The receptionist made comical gestures of me, when I was seeking help for my daughter. She did not display a basic understanding our concerns.

Thankyou for the comments, Since posting this review we have discussed this manner in depth. We have also taken steps to have an oncall doctor available for incidents were guests become ill. All front counter staff have completed a 'high profile service' training course with a specific emphasis in providing excellence in customer service. Your comments have assisted us in identifying some areas that required additional efforts. Thank you.

This is a nice old place but really has the essence of a 1970's establishment. The staff are extra friendly, the food is of a high standard and the place is clean and easy to work from. These days they have bus tours staying in house which means that the restaurants tend to get busy.

The F & B manager arrived from down south a few months back and is a very stiff chappy indeed for an North Qld hotel chain. All good and meant well I am sure.

Breakfasts although busy are definitely 5 star buffet; staff are really well turned our and cheerful. This is a good business base and fine for older mums n dads but a bit old hat for younger folk I think!

Rydges also have apartments behind the main hotel in across the road. These are absolutely first class and worthy of the extra dollars - around the two hundred a night mark. Fully self contained - the last one I stayed in was on the front of the building, two bedroom, fully self contained including laundry, spa in main ensuite - very nice indeed. Far better value than the hotel but honestly have become very popular. Book ahead through the hotel reservation desk if you'd like to stay there. My first choice for Northern Qld - absolute top marks!

there is nothing wrong with this Hotel, decor is nice, rooms comfortable and clean. desk staff were pleasant, no problems what so ever, you won't have a problem staying here if you are looking for a nice clean, and pleasant hotel. we stayed in a superior room on the 7th floor, as that was all that was available, it wasn't expensive! Plwease note that if you join the Rydges priority Guest scheme on the internet which is free, you get a cheaper rate, and also 1/2 price internet access and discounts in the restaurant when you are there.

My recent stay at this chain hotel reminded me of how hotels were in the 1970's and how things have moved on ,but not Rydges Southbank Townsville. This property sings the past and i dont like it.Its just tiried and looks as though its had minimal capital expenditure over the years. The front desk staff were just going through the motions. No welcome Sir.No smiles. The room was a marina view for which i paid a small additional charge.Well i thought i could detect 5 or 6 yacht masts beyond a shed.Couldnt see much water! The mattress looked old and with a low comfort factor .The bathroom was small.Poor lighting and a shower that splashed water everywhere. The corridors had been sprayed with a disinfectant that reminded me of a railway station lavatory. The pool was uninviting looking and the breakfast would have made Gordon Ramsey cry.Just dull and boring. As i checked out i was reminded of a comment made by a friend "nobody takes the soap and shampoo from a Rydges, theyre just boring and the soap is so small you almost need a magnifying glass to see it"I must be fair and say the location is good being right in the middle of what appeared to be the restaurant scene so no taxi required. My message is move on Rydges.Customers are better travelled and more discriminating and demanding these days and not tolerant of ordinary.

Thank you for your comments, we at Rydges Townsville take considerable pride in our product and when we recieve comments on how we can improve we take them seriously. We have in place an extensive training program, targeting excellence in service, these training session are conducted quarterly and encompass areas such as 'High Profile Service' and anticipating guest needs.

In addition to this we are currently working through a capital expenditure program and this includes significant investment in our hotel rooms.

Once again thanks for the opportunity to highlight some of our recent trainings and future refurbishments.
