Coral Coast Tourist Park Townsville

“Cleanliness and Courtesy guaranteed” drew us to this caravan park.
Reception is painted a cheery orange, with a blue roof. A cute old lady came from out back to greet us, and went in again to get Graeme, the man I spoke to on the phone the day before. He checked us in for 2 nights (over New Year!) at the Off-peak rate of $30pn (£19.80), plus $10 key deposit. It had been raining hard all day, and he said to expect rain for 3 or 4 more days! There are lots of booklets and leaflets in reception, and Graeme was happy to mark suitable car parks in town onto a map for us. (Overall, Graeme was courteous, but I could not see he was friendly or cheery, by any measure!)

The park is laid out as 5 named streets, and we easily found our allocated site 51 (of 88, in all), on Cod Crescent. There is a clearly marked gravel angle-parking lane for each vehicle, next to a raised concrete slab, with grassed areas around where you could pitch tents, etc. Not much room for manoeuvring, but at least it is very clear where and how you are supposed to park, and how much of the space is allocated to you! Both electricity and water supply were within easy cable/hose reach of the van (unlike our last stop!)
Perfect TV reception, with several channels (again unlike our last stop, where there was no TV or phone reception!)
Two rows of brand new cabins, with good space between them, are in the process of being installed, and are cordoned off as a work area. Older cabins look nice too. There are also 10 ‘villas’, and some ‘units’.

Beautiful new Camp kitchen, blue with yellow pillars, has 2 free gas BBQ , a 4-burner hob, a microwave, kettle and toaster and a fridge-freezer. Wash-up area. Not a huge amount of facilities for a large park, but spotless and shining, and with 4 lovely new-looking wooden picnic bench-tables. There is also a hole-in-the-ground fire pit behind the camp kitchen.

Amenities : Outside - turquoise walls, blue roof, and yellow windowsills, inside - a long bright modern block with 10 toilets (4 of them out of use, as park not busy), 11 showers (4 out of use) and 8 wash-basins along one side of the block. Same on other side of the block for gents. (They could be perfect if the shower cubicles had shower caddies and shower curtains, and if the insect zapper worked!) There are tiny geckos, but not big enough to eat the mozzies.
The end part of the block is the laundry, with 6 new washers in one section, and 2 driers and an ironing board in another.

A TV/Library room with arm-chairs is next to reception, with an internet kiosk at $2 for 20 mins.

The pool is fairly small, and painted a dark uninviting colour! It has a dark green sun-shade awning above it.

There are nice trees and shrubs all through the park, and lovely flower beds by the entrance and the camp kitchen. Sometimes you see solitary ibis, and other strange birds, stalking around the park.
If you are prone to insect bites, you will need to apply insect repellent in the morning, and from late afternoon!

20 mins drive to the Aquarium and the Queensland Museum, both in Flinders St.

If you have a large vehicle, Woolworths and Coles supermarket car parks both have height restrictions, but IGA, a few minutes drive on the road into town, has easy parking.

Nice Caravan Park if a little noisy. Guy at reception quite rude. Don't expect ANY help from him. Overall, a clean park and ok for a few days. Won't be returning on account of poor attitude of manager.

We were going to stay at alligator creek but through miss information (cold showers & no drinking water) we decided to head into town to find this little.., gem!?

We were greeted by a lovely lady who sorted us out at $30 to pitch a tent with $10 refundable for the bathroom key, (closed doors after 6pm) quite cheap I thought for the amenities available.

We pitched the tent and headed to the city for a bo peep, (couldn't believe the paid parking everywhere!) returned with our BBQ meat and salad which we cooked up on the BBQ, kids spotted a dog and a man in the camp kitchen and struck up a conversation with the man about the dog (thinking it was the other manager the previous reviews were mentioning as dogs are not allowed here) which he seemed quite blunt and not interested in small talk with children, ate on 1 of 3-4 tables, washed or stuff in the sink, admired the fridge kettle, toaster and microwave, and also got eaten alive by mozzies!, now im not one to be attacked by the critters, but I was dancing!!

Got changed, headed to the pool.., now it's great to get your head wet and definetly does the job a pool does, but it's a bit out dated and has the pebble finish so if you have soft feet?, watch your tootsies or you'll graze them easily. Had great fun throwing the kiddios around for a hour or so.. (no injuries ;-) and not exactly quiet like mind you) had a bit of a glare from a older guest but no complaints seems as we were within our timely rights ;-)

Had a shower, decent pressure separate floor pan so your not chucking clothes on standing in a puddle, a few were out of service but there were plenty more there.

Oh!!... Final note, no one has really mentioned the RAAF next door pretty much, jets, choppers, fairly often and to a easily irritated person and light sleeper, you will be annoyed with the fact.

But I loved the sound :-)) Fairly detailed but this is how I encountered the coral coast. Hope it helps :-D

We arrived in townsville for a weekend holiday to attend a wedding. We decided to stay at Coral Coast since we had our dog travelling with us. The villa we stayed in was presented very well and the staff were a treat to deal with. We regularly visit Townsville and will definately be staying here again.

Stayed here for one night in a cabin. On the upside it is convenient to the airport. On the downside it is about $25 (one way) to the Townsville CBD if you go by taxi. Main gripe was the attitude of the bloke at reception - he was unhelpful, unfriendly and rude. One of those people who seems to dislike working in hospitality. Our room also smelled strongly of cigarettes. Probably the other staff are much nicer and we were just unlucky but we would definitely not stay here again.

Stopped here on our way through to Cairns for 3 days. Stayed in a cabin with ensuite. Would recomend they change the mattress on the bed but apart from that it was an enjoyable stay. The facilities were very clean and tidy. We would stay here again. Although the park is right next door to the airport we didnt find the noise a problem at the time of our stay.

Stopped here on way south. Bitten to death by mossies (we left the back door open) Functional site little character as it is set in an industrial estate.. Nice pool and we got a free wine cooler bucket at a local bottle shop.
It is on the main route south and it was convenient not a bad place to stay.
