“No Sleep 3 days reported Pest problem no Action”
Reviewed January 10, 2014

Was severely bitten by sand fly's on a second storey room at the Holborn Apartments over three night stay. Reported to staff no action taken.

Below is the Letter sent to Management.
Response letter from management is attached but does not make an attempt to rectify problem.

Holborn Apartments,
Townsville
Dear Qresort:
I am writing this letter in regards to a recent stay my partner (Liza) experienced at your Holborn Apartments, Townsville room 18, second story.
Unfortunately I have to say that it was one of the worst experiences she has ever had at any accommodation let alone a 4.5 star rated premises.
After reporting something in the room was biting her, the receptionist explained that would be the sandflies and suggested that she go to the chemist to seek something to relieve the itch. They also explained they apply repellant every day.
At no time was an alternative room offered.
Two other residents were asked if they had experienced the same issues. They replied they had been there for a week and the other couple had been there for a couple of day without an issue.
After visiting the chemist and purchasing insect killer, returning to the apartment Liza sprayed the entire room to hopefully kill the sandflies.
Unfortunately after 3 nights of very little sleep and constant itching, Liza checked out of the room a day early.
On booking of the room a complimentary bottle of wine was also offered as part of the stay, which was not offered or received during the stay.
I have to say I am very disappointed as I have stayed in at your Kensington Apartment twice and this was Liza’s second stay at the Holborn. Liza had also planned a couple of weeks stay in January and I had booked for three days at the Kensington in June.
I had hoped this holiday would be a good break for Liza for some quiet, stress free, relaxing, which has not occurred.
I have also attached some pictures of the bites Liza had received.
I hope the management at a bare minimum fumigate the room and or put in place a pest management plan to minimize or eradicate the pests which should not be an issue in a 4.5 star establishment.
An apology to Liza would also be in order.

Sincerely,
Neill C

Stayed for two nights Jan 2014, extremely happy with the room, (2 bedroom), full kitchen, kitchen utensils and appliances, ensuite and bathroom as well as dining chairs and lounges. Rooftop pool was a hit as well as bbq area. Was a little nervous due to reading previously after booking the room about the noise and condition of rooms, to let you all know, we could not hear any trains (nor did we see any), double glass for doors and windows, the room had dishwashing liquid and washing powder satchels as well as tea towels and chux clothes (we were on floor 5).
Would definitely stay again if we are ever in Townsville and highly recommend.

I have recent spent 10 nights at Q Resorts Holborn which where great for my need. I was studying at JCU and this apartment was the cheapest of any type of accommodation including simple motel rooms available in Townsville besides backpackers. For $89 a night I got a fully self contained 1 bed apartment with full kitchen facilitates and laundry (at request) which is amazing value.

The apartment.
The apartment was small but fine as I was own my own, but even with two people would get a tad tight. Kitchen was great, large fridge, full stove and oven with a pot and pan. Large amount of plates and cutlery and cooking utensils. The sink is to small to do dishes so you need to use the dish draw dishwasher but this was fine, fast and quite. The clothes washer was good but the fan above the dryer didn't seam to work so the cupboard got covered in condensation. The couch was useless as it was more of a bench with over sized pillows so that you couldn't sit upright had to lay down to be comfortable, and there was no arm chair or anything else.
The major problem with the apartment was the ANTS, no matter how clean the bench was they would be crawling over everything when I got home each night. The noise from the trains wasn't as bad as other have made it out to be, however I was on the top level (8) so lower down might be worse. The free wi-fi was great due to having uni work to do at night and foxtel a nice extra. It would be nice to have flyscreens on the door to the balcony to get some fresh air in and I listened to the Reid Park carols on the last night with the door open but worried about getting bugs in,The underground secure car park was great, unlike the Kennsington block the Holborn carpark is always closed with access only by remote.

The location.
The locations for my needs was great as it was on the outside edge of town as I was travelling out to Douglas each day (15-20mins drive). The walk to ReefHQ, ferry terminal was an easy 20-25mins through the shops straight down Flinders st. There is several supermarkets close by which is handy. There is a cafe downstairs but I didn't get to use it but it always looked busy and I had several locals recommended it to me before they knew that I was staying above it.

Overall my stay was great and if I need to stay again would without hesitation due to the great price for longer stays and great facilities within the apartment.

I stayed at Holborn for 12 days, it was well presented in the photos, and you expect a fair amount of quality and service for the price of these units.
I will have to start with the bad points as there were a fair few; The unit itself was very small, the bedroom was an ok size and the bed was comfortable. There was no dona on the bed just a sheet and a knitted blanket in the wardrobe, its not a deal breaker but it would have been nice to have. The bedroom was next to the common walkway and was brightly lit which meant at night the room had light coming through the blinds.
The kitchen area was combined with the living area, this space was very cramped, the fridge door could not open fully because it would hit the decaying sofa built for a couple of ants to sit on while they squint at the average sized TV. Also in the same area is the laundry(washing machine/ dryer) which is located behind a door. My dryer had no lint filter, i could of asked the staff about it but dam it should be there, so when you turn dryer on you have dust flying into the room or you can shut the door and contain it and have it overheat because the exhaust fan wont work.
The glasses were dirty with lipstick, ect ect, It comes down to the management of these furnished apartments who just don't have a clue about whats happening in their hotels.
Now for the good points, there was free WiFi which was a bit to slow for 2013. There was free foxtel with the basic channels. Undercover parking was handy.

Room Tip: Rooms with a river view come with the noise of many trains throughout the day and night which is ver...

Was brand new when I stayed here. Excellent value but unfortunately not close to anything by public transport.
Lovely clean apartments with beautifully maintained surrounds
Bedding was comfortable although there is no housekeeping. These are self-contained apartments for the business traveller more than the tourist.
The pool? Wonderful!

Room Tip: Must have car to make this a viable option Excellent cleanliness and maintenance Rooms at the back...
