Number of lovely plants and fauna to see. However depending when you visit and time of year when you can admire the colours of the gardens.

Beautiful oasis in the dry tropics. Great variety of palms and other rainforest plants/trees along with native fauna. There's also an open arid section with cacti and other native dry tropics flora.

If you venture to the main river walking path there is a footbridge over a creek where I've regularly seen 30+ turtles all waiting for some food.

Such a lovely spot in Townsville that I married my wife here this year.

The Townsville Palmetum is a well established area full of a wide variety of palms from all over the world, rainforest plants/trees and desert plants. It is beautifully designed and affords plenty of shade except for the open areas where cactus plants thrive. It has many winding pathways which makes it wheelchair friendly. There is an old heritage type building nearby which provides nice food and coffee after the long walk.

Attracted by the quaint old teahouse and cafe, spent a relaxing half hour strolling around the lovely gardens - and enjoying a great coffee.

Well worth a stop if you have an hour spare or need a meal or coffee.

This oasis in Townsville is certainly worth a visit. It was like walking throught a butterfly house in the open air, so many of them adding a lovely calm to this pocket of rainforest. The thousands of bats added an extra bit of entertainment, as did my encounter with a tree snake and some bush turkeys. The variety of palms is amazing and also the other tall rainforest trees from all around the world. The Blackhawk Memorial is well worth seeing and the quaint cool cafe does a nice coffee and other snacks. Thoroughly recommend a visit.
