Ridgemont Executive Motel and Restaurant
Ranked #29 of 41 Hotels in Townsville
Reviewed October 28, 2013

After staying in a number of hotels previously, I found that the Ridgemont Executive Motel and Restaurant was indeed good value for the accommodation and parking provided. The motel staff were great and the cleanliness was to standard, very happy and will stay there again next time I'm in Townsville.

cheers

Room Tip: all of the basic rooms can sleep 3 comfortably (2 beds 1 double & 1 single)

Jenny and Tim are very good hosts and very knowledgeable of the area.
Great apartment with lovely views over the sea.

Room was large and well designed though kitchen area was quite small but sufficient.

Internet doesn't work in bedroom but satisfactory in the reception/dining area.

Meals are available or you can do self catering.

Would certainly recommend here and would stay again.

This motel is up the hill from the old city in Townsville. It is located under the shadow of the City's high point, Castle Hill. For those feeling energetic it is within walking distance of the Strand (esplanade) and the marina. It will be quite a hike on the way back though. A restaurant service is available.

The Rooms - The rooms are spacious and well laid out. A table and chairs is provided both within the room and outside on the balcony. Everything worked well.

The En-suite - on the small side but perfectly adequate.

The kitchen - again on the small side but adequate.

AC Unit - very efficient.

Internet - Unfortunately this is not a strong point. There is free Wi-Fi available but the signal is not strong enough to extend to the bedrooms.

Car-Parking - adequate.

Misc. - a small pool and outdoor BBQ area is available.

Finally, on balance I would stay again and have therefore no hesitation in recommending it.

Upon my arrival for a 2 night stay I found owner Jenny to be very warm and welcoming. Each time I spoke to Jenny - usually to ask for something, she was always very helpful. I was even given the requested water view room, a view worth having I thought.
The motel itself has recently had a makeover/freshen up as opposed to being refurbished. This in some ways is unfortunate because the new bits in your room really make the old bits stand out. I think a better option would have been to completely renovate at least some of the rooms and perhaps offer different rates for the renovated and unrenovated rooms.
Location of the motel for me was superb. A $20 taxi fare from the airport, 15 minute walk to The Strand (longer walking back as it is uphill - a steep uphill!) and just 5 mins to town. Some people might find the top of hill location of the motel not to their liking but I was grateful for the exercise. In any case a taxi would never cost more than a few dollars back to the hotel.
Foxtel, all the free to air, a comfy bed, large fridge the only thing missing is free Wi-Fi. Australian motels really need to lift their game in this regard. I think the true test of a motel is would I stay there again? In this case certainly yes but only in a water view room.
Perhaps unfortunately Jenny and Tim have sold this business and will be gone by the time I write this. Hopefully the new owners finish doing the place up as this will greatly improve the business.
And the free Wi-Fi...

Room Tip: Ask for a room with water views.

We have been travelling to Townsville for over twenty years to spend time on Magnetic Island, and whenever we stay over night, as we did on two separate occasions this year, our automatic choice is the Ridgemont. Tim and Jenny are like old friends, and when we ring to make the booking, we don't even have to say which room we want.

We agree with everything said in the recent reviews: the view from the top level over to Maggie, the proximity to all the attractions and good eateries, the exercise you can get walking to downtown, and would also add the restful sleep we get each night. On a value for money scale, we would reckon it would have to be second to none. Look forward to catching up again briefly next year, Jenny and Tim.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the top level overlooking Australia's best kept secret.

We have just spent 5 nights in Townsville at the Ridgemont Executive . We had views across the Strand to Magnetic Island magnificent. We previously lived in Townsville for years but hadn't been back for 6 yrs so it was really great to see it from a visitors perspective.
Jenny and Tim wre absolutely great. We sat on the verandah at the bar and restaurant and ate their for 2 nights and the food was great. Lamb shanks one night and Tims speciality Rogan Josh the second time. We will certainly return there on our next trip.

We have just enjoyed 14 nights at the Ridgemont. We appreciated the friendly welcome, the great views and the close proximity to the Strand, restaurants, the city, and of course Castle Hill.

The opportunity to train on Castle Hill to undertake the Kokoda Track was a highlight for us.

A wonderful 2 weeks in Townsville.
