Description: This Gold Coast eatery features a range of authentic and well-priced Vietnamese, Thai and Chinese dishes on the extensive menu. Indecisive diners might want to turn their attention to the substantial list of chef's specials. The Chef, Hue Trieu, has worked in the restaurant business since her teenage years. Cooking is true passion for her. She learned and developed her cooking skills from her family's restaurant in Vietnam as well in different Chinese and Thai restaurants in Germany. In 1993 She and her husband set up their first restaurant in Geelong, also named New Saigon and then the second one named Hi Hi restaurant, both were successful. Deeply impressed by Gold Coast's lovely weather and lifestyle, She and her family moved to Gold Coast in 2003 initially for early retirement but only 1 year later she missed the hospitality scene so much, so they decided to open New Saigon Restaurant in Gold Coast in April 2004. Although the position is not really ideal for a restaurant but thanks to the good support of regular local customers as well casual tourists, New Saigon Restaurant has established itself as a good place for authentic Vietnamese and Asian foods on the Coast.

I had high expectations after reading reviews. I wonder if it's the same restaurant... The food was mainly salty & very expensive. I begrudge paying what I paid for. It was not worth it. We went for the entree & main meals instead of noodle soup dish. I definitely had heaps better Vietnamese. It was such a let down. I wonder how it got it's Certificate of Excellence award.

Hi Holiday R,
Sorry for your bad dining experiences during your recent visit at Surfers Paradise.
We (New Saigon Restaurant: for you Salty & expensive…) and also “Chiang Mai Thai: for you Expensive, average food” and “Yum Cha Noodle House: for you Salty, salty, salty” could not meet your very high eating standard. We will definitely double check with our many long time loyal regular customers ( some also living Sydney) if our food is really mainly salty as you reviewed and properly adjust if necessary.
Thank you for your “destructive” review anyway and we really hope and wish you can find a proper place being able to satisfy your taste in your next future trip. Good Luck !!!
PS:
We believe our pricing is not expensive as you shouted in your review.
Entrees $9/set , our generous standard main courses of $16/ea for chicken, beef or pork and $21/ea for Seafood are fair prices on the Gold Coast ( not in Sydney’s Cabramatta !!!).
We list our complete Menu in A2 form on our restaurant's front window and also online at NEWSAIGONRESTAURANT.BLOGSPOT.COM.AU for checking and comparing…

Tip for you: Always check the prices before dining at a new place. It might help you avoid possible surprising disappointment !

We ate here on our last night - we wished we had discovered New Saigon earlier in our stay. We had a beautiful meal here of Spring Rolls with Rice Vermicelli. It was tasty and oh so fresh. The serving was generous. For those staying at Crowne Plaza hotel, New Saigon is located just over the road. Definitely worth a visit. Service is slow, but you are on holiday, so kick back enjoy a drink and relax: the wait is worth it!

Ample servings, great flavours, good presentation, excellent Vietnamese (southern coastal region ?) food made with the freshest ingredients as is the Vietnamese way.

Service was very slow, but food was worth waiting for. As with the majority of asian restaurants, there was unfortunately a limited selection of wines and beers.

Table settings were also of the minimal asian variety. No tablecloth, no linen napkins, no wine glasses, no water, and only plain functional cutlery. The bare tables combined with the stark lighting and poor acoustics do not make for great ambience and grand dining, but allow for low overheads that unfortunately are not reflected in the prices.

For what you get, prices are reasonable however and I found it to be a great little licensed casual hasty-tasty café no more than five minutes walk from Hard Rock Café.
