Description: This Gold Coast eatery features a range of authentic and well-priced Vietnamese, Thai and Chinese dishes on the extensive menu. Indecisive diners might want to turn their attention to the substantial list of chef's specials. The Chef, Hue Trieu, has worked in the restaurant business since her teenage years. Cooking is true passion for her. She learned and developed her cooking skills from her family's restaurant in Vietnam as well in different Chinese and Thai restaurants in Germany. In 1993 She and her husband set up their first restaurant in Geelong, also named New Saigon and then the second one named Hi Hi restaurant, both were successful. Deeply impressed by Gold Coast's lovely weather and lifestyle, She and her family moved to Gold Coast in 2003 initially for early retirement but only 1 year later she missed the hospitality scene so much, so they decided to open New Saigon Restaurant in Gold Coast in April 2004. Although the position is not really ideal for a restaurant but thanks to the good support of regular local customers as well casual tourists, New Saigon Restaurant has established itself as a good place for authentic Vietnamese and Asian foods on the Coast.

“Outstanding and authentic Vietnamese food”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 15, 2012

My wife is from Vietnam and she is a good cook. She knows good Vietnamese food when she come across such restaurants.
Four years ago, my wife and I visited Surfers Paradise on our Australian honeymoon. On the Gold Coast Highway, we discovered a Vietnamese restaurant that serves Banh Khot that is a small crispy pancake served with a cooked prawn. It is very rare to find such a dish outside of Vietnam as it has to be served fresh and it involves a lot of delicate work. To our surprise, the dish was "perfect". Even though we stayed for four nights at Surfers, we had dinner there on three occasions.
This week, we arrived at Surfers with her two neices visiting from Vietnam. My wife insisted on finding this restaurant again. All I know and remember is that this restaurant is on the Gold Coast Highway. We cruised the Highway for nearly an hour until we found it. It was worthwhile.

At lunch yesterday, we had curry puffs for our first entre. It was crispy and delicious. Our second entre was Vietnamese Ricepaper Summer Roll (with pork and prawn). It was authentic and the sauce was so light and beautiful.

Next came the main course of Banh Khot. It was outstanding.

To round up the lunch, we had the Vietnamese Three Colour Drink (of mash mung beans, red beans and jelly with crushed ice and coconut cream). One of the best anywhere.

It is rare to find such a gem. My wife insist on returning for more. What can I say?

KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK and thanks for our wonderful experience.

John and Uyen

By the way, we are only interested in the food. We are not bothered by the environment.

Having read the review, and dying for Vietnamese food, I decide to give this restaurant a try.
As said in the title, its a bit pricey for Vietnamese restaurant.
But the taste is quite authentic.
Will surely visit again,

“Highly recommended Vietnamese restaurant”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 29, 2012

We have been here on several occasions, most recently last night with our daughter and son-in-law and have never been disappointed, in fact, we love it. Yes, it is basic, but the food is outstanding and delicious. Amongst our favourite dishes are the crispy beef with plum sauce, fried tofu with soya chilli sauce, pork balls....... I could go on! We have been to more upmarket Vietnamese restaurants in Brisbane and they do not compare to New Saigon, both in quality and value. Considering Mr. and Mrs. Nguyen run this restaurant on their own, with her cooking and him waiting, of course there may be times when you have to wait a little, but this does not detract from the experience. Looking forward to the next time and trying some more of the beautiful dishes on the menu.

“What a great find”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 4, 2012

I went for lunch at this restaurant today after reading the reviews on Trip Advisor. My friend and I were very impressed with the high quality of the food and the big size servings. The Banh Tam I had was delicious. I will be back to try the noodle soups soon; couple on next table had that and it looked very inviting. Good value for money. It was worth putting up with road works to get to this gem.
