This is a fantastic self contained option for Surfers. Very handy to everything and rooms in great order. Stayed in a few of the rooms and while all varying in furniture and slight layout changes, all very professional and comfortable. My only disappointment in one room was there was no Fox Footy even though it was advertised as having Fox Sports. Highly recommended.

Hi Sean,

Thank you very much for taking the time to review Artique. We are so happy to hear that you love staying with us. I'm not sure what happened with the Fox Sports Channel in your last room as it should have been there. Perhaps the TV needed to be re-tuned. Please do not hesitate in calling us for anything at all when you are next staying at Artique. We are more than happy to assist in any way we can. Your happiness is our priority. We look forward to welcoming you back!

Kind regards, Melissa (General Manager).

Was yelled at by girl on phone when I rang about getting my key from safe as it was later on a Sunday. Notes left around apartment not nicely worded. Does not say shower over bath on their website and as I have difficulty standing due to needing knee replacement it would have changed my mind about staying here. Found that out on this site AFTER I moved in. I fell first night trying to get in shower. Next day could hardly walk and spent day in bed...because I had failed to register when I finally got up a note had been thrown under door with security deposit info highlighted and big cross next to it. I don't consider shower over bath to be 4.5 star although rest of apartment was okay, reasonably modern... Would rather stay in circle on cavill again.

Room Tip: Make sure if you are disabled you don book here ...no facilities

Hi Karen, I am absolutely disappointed to hear that you have had such a negative experience at Artique. We value your feedback very much and would like you to contact us to discuss what has happened.

It is never a problem to arrive at any time of the night. We have people who are answering the phones all night long so it is never an issue that someone arrives late. I would like to find out who you spoke with and what they were saying to you so that I can follow this up straight away.

From what I understand, you are still in house and I would love the opportunity to discuss these concerns with you.

We do have many different types of rooms at Artique and some of the baths do have showers above them, predominantly in the second bathrooms, where we provide a bath for families and young children. Once of my staff members did tell me today that they were going to upgrade you as you rang down to say you needed a proper shower. That would not have been a problem at all, however I was then advised that you were actually in a 2 bedroom with the second bathroom locked off. To resolve the issue straight away, we offered you the use of the second bathroom and from all accounts, everything was ok.

In relation to the check in procedure on the day after arrival, we do require guests to come and check in if they arrive late the first night. I’m very sorry that this was inappropriate for you. If you had of called down to explain you were resting, we would have been very understanding. Your happiness is our main priority and once again we are sorry you are having a less than happy experience. I would love the opportunity to talk to you further.

Kindest regards, Melissa (General Manager).

We shared with another couple in a 2 room unit for 10 nights. Being on a corner of Surfers Paradise Boulevard during construction of the light rail link it was in a quiet area because of the closure of through streets. The location is handy to the beach, Cavell Avenue, the Northcliffe surf club and bus stops for travel north or south.

The resort has a good pool, of a generous size, a heated spa, barbeque facilities and other features such as a gym and sauna that we did not use. A point of difference is the indoor golf driving range that offered registered golfers the chance to hit golf balls against a choice of courses without having to leave the units and at zero cost (but with a returnable deposit).

The reception desk gave good information.

The apartment was of adequate size and well appointed. The balcony offered views of the lights of the Gold Coast and glimpses of the sea.

We're local (half an hour up the road towards Brissy) and decided to stay here for a five-night 'getaway' with our two children (3 and 5). Our 2 bedroom / 2 bathroom apartment was spotless and just perfect for our needs.

Modern, comfortable furnishings, tastefully decorated (wish my house looked like this!), fully equipped kitchen, laundry etc, all the appliances you would ever need, very spacious, light and airy with divine ocean views and balconies (spoilt due to 5 days of awful wet weather, but that's life!)... friendly staff, no bugs, no hassles.

Surfer's is definitely not the be all and end all of the Gold Coast (especially the mess around the roads at the moment due to a new Light Rail system being put in), however obviously having our own car meant we we were able to spread a bit further afield (as someone else said, Broadbeach is lovely and only 5 mins south by car or bus).

Would go back for sure.

Room Tip: Perhaps let them know in advance if you require wifi internet access - this needs a special box to b...

Very comfortable 2 bedroom, 1 bathroom apt for three night stay, great pool and spa, gym was busy, reception a bit hit and miss, parking easy, no restaurant, easy walk to bus to and from airport and theme parks, quiet, great views from 17th floor. No complaints with booking in or service, even though reception was closed over the Xmas period. Busy place but close to beach for the quiet moments, bus is nearby so no need to use car to most places. Would definately stay again. I felt very safe as a single traveller in the vibrant area of Surfers Paradise.

We stayed here for 4 nights, and completely agree with the last reviewer about Surfer's Paradise. It reminded me of Vegas or Niagara Falls, very manufactured and sort of slimey feeling. We visited most of the neighbouring areas and would've much preferred staying in Broadbeach too. It had more of a neighbourhood feel, less touristy.

As for the Artique Hotel, we probably would choose to stay somewhere else if ever in the Gold Coast again. It didn't meet my expectations based on the reviews I had read.

Pros:
- New building, nice lobby, pool area
- Well equipped kitchen
- Large flat screen TV with good cable options
- 2 short blocks away from the bus stop on the Gold Coast Hwy and 1 block to the beach
- Good in-unit laundry facilities with separate sink, laundry basket and drying rack

Cons:
- Front-desk hours are pretty limited. We had internet troubles the first day but couldn't get a hold of anyone to resolve it until the second day. Front-desk was closed and the after-hours service people just kept telling us to refer to the hotel user guide. And a few times I saw people struggling to check-in when they arrived after-hours (which starts at like 5-6pm on weekdays).
- The bed had that nasty type of cover on it that you know hasn't been cleaned, and when we took it off were suprised to see that it was just a sheet. We took a blanket from the closet, but that clearly hadn't been washed either since it wasn't neatly folded and there was hair on it. The spare pillows in the closet look like they'd been used too.
- Our room was generally noisy. There was a buzzing from some mechanical closet in our unit and the housekeeping room was next door (they're up early in the morning).
- Internet is weak. The broadband connection turned up to be in a locked 2nd bedroom (we'd only reserved a 1-bedroom unit), so they had to send someone in to set-up the wifi, which turned out to be painfully slow.

What I guess I didn't realize was that this is more of a serviced apartment than hotel. The units (not sure what percentage) are individually owned, so units could be different from one to the next. Housekeeping service isn't daily, and in fact never came during our 4-night stay. As for the cockroaches that another reviewer mentioned, we didn't see any but there was a notice that pest control was coming to spray all managed units. They must exist!
