Surfers International
Reviewed January 12, 2010

My partner and I found the Surfers International to be exactly what we were looking for on our recent trip to Surfers Paradise. Not only did it have location, location, location the room itself was very spaciuos and comfortable and had the most spectacular views. The unit had a comfortable queen size bed. There is a lounge area, seperate bathroom (off the bedroom) and kitchen (with full cooking facilities and plenty of pots and pans and cooking utensils etc) there is also a seperate laundry area (which does help with the noise and heat that the dryer does create) the free Austar was also nice to come home to after a big day at the themeparks.

We had friends come and visit us and there was plenty of visior parking (on the premises) and the pool and bbq area were great.

The staff were also friendly and booked all of our tours and gave us ideas of where to go and things to do.

We were worried about staying there after reading some of the reviews but found once we got there we had nothing to worry about and will definitely go back.

We were booked to stay at this motel for 7 days ... we lasted two hours!

We arrived on a public holiday and reception was closed. So unfortunately, there was no one on site to address our issues with the room. Although, I must say, after seeing the room there wasn't too much negotiating we were prepared to do!

After a smooth check in process via remote assistance we luckily had the room for 24 hours prior to settling our account.

We were given room 2002. Our first impression of building is that it looks dated but so does the whole of Surfers Paradise. The foyer area was so humid it was sickening. There was no air conditioning or air circulation at all. We have been to Thailand recently but this humidity was choking! The lifts were even worse.

Our room was a one bedroom apartment on the 20th floor. After reviewing some comments made on tripadvisor.com regarding the apartments I had emailled reception addressing my concerns and was emailled stating that we had a newly refurbished apartment and the room would meet our satisfaction. Blah! What a bloody joke! Newly refurbished - maybe 10 years ago.

First impression of the room was ok. Not great but ok. Walking through the door was a doorway on the right housing the bedroom and bathroom. Straight through brought you to the dining area, kitchen, loungeroom and balcony. The view was amazing! The only good thing this place has going for it! In the loungeroom was a smallish television with spills all over the front of the television. The walls behind the TV had something running down the walls. Not a single wall in the place would you consider clean. The pedestal fan in the loungeroom was sickenly dirty. The dust and grease on the fan was absolutely amazing and the fact no one cleaned it shocks me. The kitchen did not have an oven or dishwasher, old fridge was broken and so was the old microwave. The balcony had a damaged and broken light on the floor, glad we didn't have children in this room. When you walk onto the balcony the view is spectacular but you feel as if you are going to fall. The balcony leans forward and is a little unnerving. The furniture is old and not matching. There is a flimsly screen separating the rooms on the balcony. The sliding door on the balcony that really didn't slide did not close properly and DID NOT LOCK! And we travelled with cash! The bedroom housed an old bed that was hard as a rock, the wardrobe had cracking furniture in it along with a power box that was making an electrical smell. The bedroom had only a tiny window, was amazingly humid, no way anyone was getting any sleep in that hot box. The bathroom was putrid to say the best. Tiles were missing, mould covered the roof, there were stains around the wall and on the toilet roll holder ... make an assumption as you will! We attempted to connect to the wireless broadband offered - surprise! It didn't work! The laundry was located within the hallroom near the lift. No way in the world would you even consider placing your clothes in there. There is mould covering every centimetre of every wall and ceiling. The washing machine would be 15 years old and rusted out. The laundry tub is rusted to the point of holes, hot water systems are located in this room aswell and sit on wooden boards that have eroded and are barely holding the systems in place. I would not wash my dogs blankets in this laundry,

After taking in this environment for about 30 minutes we knew straight away that we needed an internet cafe and fast! Thankfully due to the great location an internet cafe was just around the corner. After arranging alternative accomodation for our holiday and we returned to the motel to grab our belongings and prompty get out of there. We telephoned reception once the car was packed and safely out of the secured carpark. The lady did not argue and when told about the issues we had with the room she said she didn't blame us.

After driving ten hours for our holiday we were well prepared to get back in our car and return home. I cannot express how disappointing, disheartening and upsetting this place is to arrive to when your are on your holiday in Surfers Paradise.

I'm thinking the motel does not have cleaners and relies on the previous tenants to do the majority of cleaning for them.

Something ought to be done about this place - 4 stars more like 1.5 - 2 stars and much better suited to be backpackers accomodation.

Do yourself just a favour and ..... DON'T! Or make sure you are up to date with your hepatitis immunisations!

Stayed in a one bedroom apartment in Surfers International. We had a room on the 20th level (room 2006) and found it to be modern and extremely comfortable. The views over the beach and the ocean were absolutely spectacular. It is our experience that some rooms are modern, others need renovation. Very close to Cavil avenue and the shops.
We were extremely happy with our stay.

Don't know where to start... self contained but no laundry facilities, scary hole filled with dust in the shower cabin, wonder if that meets the health& hygiene stds at all, no aircon.. Tried to use the spa but there was rubbish floating in it. This is no schoolies time, there were like 3 people in the pool which makes me believe that they don't maintain the leisure facilities regularly. Facilities feel old and dirty. Similarly the kitchen- room 1003. And this the most shocking part, today we found a note under the door as we are leaving tomorrow saying: " Upon check-out PLEASE ENSURE YOU LEAVE THE APARTMENT TIDY Eg;dishes and cutlery washed and dried and put back on cupboard, all rubbish taken to the refuse room. Furniture returned to its original position. AN EXTRA CLEANING CHARGE WILL APPLY IF THIS IS NOT DONE" This has never happen to me in my life holidaying experience! To expect to clean upon leaving?!! We pay for this and the reason why people go on holidays is to don't have to do the house work. I understand not to be disgusting but taking the rubbish out. Seriously the owners are forgetting what sort of services holiday accommodation is meant to provide... Don't waste ur time, there are way nice places in Gold Coast.

One odd thing - I havent stayed at too many apartment kind of places but... am I the only one that feels weird about the carpet not being there?

Maybe it's because too many guests bring sands back in?

But but good things ---

The view was Fan-tas-ticcc though!

The interior was on some level cute and very beach-y theme- with fish and shells on the walls. Generally clean.

Plenty of room and bed was soft. pots and everything in the kitchen.

One last not-so-good thing: the bathroom door was a sliding door and couldnt be closed 100%.

We have stayed in Surfers seven times now never have we seen a disgusting apartment like we were offered. One look at the mould on the kitchen walls, the filthy carpet, and dirty shower and we were straight down to the manager. In her defence she had a look at the room and had to agree it was pretty bad. Was offered a choice of a couple of rooms but even though they were better, not up to our standard. We were then offered a refund except our $200 deposit and we left and checked in at the Morracan and had a great stay.Surfers international Four star? try two and that would be generous! Hope they use our $200 for some extra cleaning cause they sure need it.
There are much nicer resorts for the same money do your home work.
