My husband and I stayed at Aloha Apts with two young children in October 2010 and found it to be fantastic. Yes it is 3 star and is what we expected. Helpful and friendly staff. Best location ever. Few minutes to everything, bus stops, Cavill Ave, beach, park, restaurants and shops. Pool was great and even though it rained most of our 12 day holiday we still enjoyed both the pool and spa on a daily basis.

Would definitely recommend to anyone. As to alot of the other earlier comments, If you want 5 star go and pay for 5 star.

I stayed at Aloha for 6 months at one time, and I have to say I didn't find it as bad as some of these reviews claim it to be. I think there must be a great difference between different rooms (in terms of cleanliness, style etc). Our 2-room apt on the 9th floor was clean and not so run down as some other seem to be. I found the staff very friendly and helpful. But sure, it's not sparkling new, and certainly not luxurious. The room was decent, but not nothing special.

The real reasons to stay here are the view and the proximity to the beach and Surfers' centre. The view, the beach and the hospitality of the staff made our long stay a very memorable one.

It was a waste of our money where accommodation was concerned. The staff can be summed up as "unwilling", any requests were met with barely concealed tolerance and we were made to feel so uncomfortable when asking for anything eg why was the pool icy-cold when it was advertised as heated. One of the reasons why we chose Aloha was because of the pool and we had 1 swim in it over 1 week. The room was dirty, utensils looked barely clean, very tired furniture, archaic washing machine. No value for money here. Should have taken note of the preceding reviews before booking.

Gawd what a nightmare. After a long day traveling from Sydney and being delayed (Onya Jetstar, but thats another story) we arrived at the hotel around 8pm on a Sunday night, to be greeted by a closed reception and a locked door. There was a sign saying the office closed at midday Sunday. At that point I thought we would have to sleep on the beach.. There was an intercom on the wall next to the door, but it was dead.

Eventually one of the guests came down to head out for the night and we managed to get into the reception, use the front desk phone to speak to someone, get keys and get to our room.

Opening the door to our room we were met with heat, humidity and an overpowering smell. We opened the windows and tried to turn the fans on, no airconditioning!?!? The fan in the lounge did not work. We spent the night tossing and turning in the heat and humidity and were grumpy and tired by the time we went down to the reception the next morning.

We were greeted by the office manager Vivian. I told her of our experiences, but was met with an apathetic attitude. Told her of the broken intercom. "oh yeah ive had a few complaints about that i spose i should get it fixed".. Told her of the broken fan "is that still not working? the electrician was here a few weeks ago".. We expressed our disappointment but her attitude was really one of "oh well". We decided that we werent going to stay there for the remainder of our holiday, 3 more nights in that? We found another hotel a few blocks away and canceled our booking at Aloha. Again the attitude was one of apathy and "dont let the door hit you on your way out."

I would say to others: Stay Away! Our room stank, was stuffy & staff were unhelpful. We arrived out of hours (which we didn't know when their hours were) to be locked out, the intercom not working. We only managed to get in when another guest came out. Upon opening the door we were met with a stuffy, mouldy smell. We opened all the windows and attempted to put the fans on in order to cool the place down. Only the fan in the bedroom worked; the living room fan did not.
We'd requested an ocean view room but did not get one (this I understand cannot always be met)
We didn't sleep the first night as it was so hot.
The next day we found ourselves avoiding going back to the apartment after breakfast, so we decided to leave and find another hotel. They were totally unapologetic about the fact there was faulty equipment in the room. Their attitude seemed to be one of 'we don't care, see ya'
Don't stay here.

We stayed at the Aloha over the Christmas break and I was not really that impressed with it. We had an apartment on the 13th floor with great views to the hinterland of the Gold Coast and to the ocean. I know this place is not a five star hotel but they certainly need to clean the place and replace some of the ageing ktichen equipment.
One thing that was most annoying were kitichen cupboards that had been locked, obviously to store the owners personal items. This was very annoying as one had paid for the use of the entire apartment.
What really annoyed me the most about this place was the rude behaviour of a front of staff member. We had lost our keys and had to pay $100 as they said they had to change the locks, but I was told they simply get new ones cut.
In addition the bathroom in the spare room flooded and soaked the carpets in the bedroom so that my sister who was staying with us had to sleep on the sofa as they smelt so bad. When we asked for any type of compensation we were told this is not a hotel. She also said that we should have reported it, blaming us for the problem. Overall the place had a funny smell to it but it was added to by wet carpet. I personally would avoid this place like the plaque, except for the views there is not much else going for it. There are many other places which offer more, and with a smile.

When we arrived the indian lady & an other lady her boss? were very rude, (Jan was lovely who we met later) they didn't greet us, & placed on floor 5 instead of floor 10 as promised even though we hadrung times to check a high was ok & booked a year ago.

we got told someone hadnt checked out & that bad luck even though we booked ayear ago, as they wanted to stay an extra it was too bad.

when taking our mastercard & trying to check in a few hours earlier in the arvo were told that the rooms were not available yet, even though we asked for an early check in , & that they had a phone failure & the mastercard couldnt process correctly & they would call us as son as the phones/systems were working, which coincidentally when we called back very soon were working, & they advised they had just come back online, what a coincidence. it seemed like they were too lazy to arrange a room early for us, even though we had clearly arranged this.

They were stonefaced as my mate said, & their attitude was poor & my cousin said that if they smiled their face would crack.

we have tra\velled the world & everyone always greeted us lovely bar these 3 staff members. hopefully they are no longer there if the owner got feedback.

When we got our rooms, our 2 bedroom one was smelly & fllor 5 smelt like the garnage hadn't been put out. the 1 bedroom one wasnt too bad. both rooms vents were dirty, but that could be being a little picky.

The location & viw were sensational, & was not disappointed with the room/view. the bed was so comfy & I coudnt fault the actual room for the price. shower was big. spa was nice bar having to hit a button to turn it on every 5 mins, the spa level was very low 1 day.

the tennis court was great,, gamesroom looked ok, antique sauna, underground carpark was good to park your hire car prvately.

bsically walk thru a walkway to cavill mall...location FANTASTIC. 3 mins walk to cavill mall.

liquor store on the corner was a rip off, walk 1 min more to the BWS for the best prices.

in house rom service was good, clean sheets were lovely.

We said we checking out at 8.30am approx, & they called us at 8.25am to ask why we havent left - first time ever - cosidering we could hav eft at 10am, & they didnt want to give us a rom at 1pm on the right floor when we got there, unusual...

Whe the receptionist staff saw us leave in the carpark didn't even say goodbye, even though we had never been rude.

We will not go back to this place only because of the 2 staff that were rude.
