“smaller than it looks”
Reviewed October 20, 2009

stayed in a 2 bedroom apartment, overlooking Nerang river. The bedrooms were quite small with no draws, they did have a good size wardrobe though. The 2nd bedroom you couldn't use the door out to balcony as bed was in the way.The main bedroom had a small balcony with a rusty air con to look at.
The bathroom wasn't the cleanest it could of been, a bit of mould and dirt around.
Reception hours are only 9am to 5pm!
The pool area was very nice, and a good gym & sauna too.
You can also hear the people above you walking around, and the noise from the street too.

Very nice accom in a great location, near the cnr of Surfers Parardise Blvd and Gold Coast Hwy. We (self and kids) stayed in a 1 brm executive that was very spacious and had everything you would expect from a 4 star establishment. Importantly for a QLD property, there were pretty good block out curtains fitted. Hotel facilities were very good. Car parking was not reserved, just the way I like it! First in, best spot! Although we visited during school holidays there were still lots of empty spots , even near the lifts.Games room in basement/carpark had pinball and a couple of arcades along with pool table and table tennis , internet in 1st floor recreation room along with 2 vending machines. A small gym with treadmill, stepper, weights machine and exercise bike was adjacent, as was a sauna. Well kept gardens with BBQ and pool and spa. Staff were friendly. We were in a room that faced Surfers Paradise Blvd and the was some traffic noise from the street below (we were on the 5th floor), but this could be mostly blocked by closing the balcony doors
Only complaint, the in house internet was exorbitant at $30 for 3 days, but this seems to be the norm in Australia these days.

All in all, I could very easily recommend this property.

Wonderful self contained apartment, excellent for families on a budget. Joy & Sue (the owners) were very helpful and went out of their way to make our stay pleasant. The pool & barbecue area is lovely and the gamesroom & gym are adequate. Very handy location. The beach, shops & public transport (for the theme parks etc) are all within a couple of minutes walking distance. We definitely got our moneys worth and will be going back next year.

The staff at the place were rude! We had one broken glass and we were treated as if we had trashed the place. The cutlery and plates were dirty. Place had not been cleaned properly. I got an ear infection from swimming in the pool. Would never stay at a place like this.

Thank you for the opportunity to provide more details of the stay outlined above.
The three young ladies were evicted from the premises after throwing glasses into the pool. This action was taken after a witness reported the incident and we confirmed the glassware located in the pool was missing from the apartment inventory that is standard throughout the building.
The ladies were upset when asked to leave but in the interests of all guests at the resort we must implement standards of safety and enforce the body corporate by laws.

We stayed here for 6 nights altogether, first with a "stay 4 nights pay 3" deal in a 1 Bedroom Executive and returned on a later date to stay in a 1 Bedroom. Both rooms are similar, so go with the cheaper 1 Bedroom ($125 online; $135 walk in). The "stay 4 nights pay 3" deal is great at a total of $435 ($109 a night). You can book this on their website under Hot Deals when it's available: http://www.palazzocolonnades.com.au. There's no additional tax or miscellaneous admin fee.

The bed, living room and kitchen are comfortable and large (compared to other places we've been with similar price) with lovely air conditioning. The view is nice although other tall hotels have blocked a clearer sea view. As long as you don't turn on the dryer at night, it's pretty quiet.

We were a bit disappointed with the sticky kitchen floor on arrival (but in comparison to our $150 tiny room in Byron Bay where we could slide around on the greasy floor, this is trivial), but you can simply mop it up or wear your slippers in the kitchen area (it's at the entrance anyway).

There's apparent housekeeping every week, but we didn't stay long enough for a cleaner to come by. So treat it like your own apartment - throw out the garbage and wash the bathroom if you've brought back sand from the beach.

Cooking facilities and cutlery are all available, including packets of dishwashing liquid. This can save you A LOT of money if eating out everyday is expensive. Woolworths (drive there as parking is free for 1 hour if you're buying heavy groceries) and late-night supermarkets are a nice and safe 5-minute walk away.

There's also a washing machine and dryer for your laundry. They give you a complimentary packet of detergent (enough for 1 small wash) and you can purchase more for $1.00 each (same price for sugar, coffee, tea, dishwashing liquid).

There's a nice swimming pool and spa (jacuzzi), barbecue area, small gym and sauna. The games room is in the basement along with the carpark. The carpark is quite secure with your own key access, and this is important for a place notorious for car thefts and break-ins! The beach is just down the road, so you can simply walk there in your swimsuit.

The staff were very nice to us, allowing us to check in even before noon. We came back a second time because our accommodation in Brisbane screwed up our booking. Although they couldn't give us another discount, they tried to compensate by giving us a nice room on the highest (10th) floor. They wrote down directions for us to get to other locations and kindly gave us maps.

I would recommend Palazzo Colonnades for "an apartment away from your apartment." The price is great for Surfers Paradise unless you want $85 backpacker motels, which can be noisy with less privacy ... or other accommodation further away, which means you have to drive to the main area. The tourist hub is close enough without you being smacked in the middle of the noise and craziness.

Lovely property. Apartments were a little small. Stayed for 4 nights and room was not serviced at all. Staff were very unfriendly - customer service was non-existent. Staff don't treat you like hotel guests at all. Made us feel like we were bothering them all the time. Would not return as we did not feel welcome!

We have just spend a week at this hotel / holiday apparments. It was great apart from room service only comes once a week. Our room was nice, had sea views. The staff were very polite and even offered to help us with directiosn to everywhere we wanted to go to. We were also allowed to check in early with out paying extra.

I would stay here again and would reccomend it.
