We stopped by the Lobby Bar for a quick drink the other day which turned into quite a few hours. It's nice to have someone in town that is just casual and relaxed to head for a social drink. The presence of sunlight and an open and airy feel makes a nice change in Surfers, especially when combined with great drinks and service. Staff here are always really present and attentive here and make sure you have everything you need.
Great to have some fun and friendly bar staff, without the attitude and pretentiousness that is becoming so common everywhere else. Gentlemen in the bar made up some cocktails from scratch for us which were just awesome.
Keep wishing we had time to get in and try some of the hot rock menu items as they always look and smell amazing, need to get back and try them!

Great little bar with a surprisingly playful menu. Something different to the ordinary bar meals you get. Volcanic stone cooking at your table is really fun while you enjoy a drink or two. Because you cook it slowly you can really enjoy the experience, Great for something different !!!

On the weekend, we went to the Marriott for the drink at their bar. As we had been a lot before the refurbishment, this is the first time seeing what had happened after. I liked the old Marriott better. When we went to the bar for a drink, it was poor service and they couldn't even get us a bowl of chips even though the table next to us had them for their family. When we had another guest arrive the waitress looked at him and didn't even come up to our table to offer a drink. She decided to move furniture and pour water instead. I was not impressed with the Marriott Surfers Paradise and would not stay there.

Myself and fellow workers get together every year to celebrate a combined amount of birthdays and Xmas - we love high tea a perfect get together

This year we chose the Marriott - their standards are slipping rapidly - we had a lousy Lobster buffet earlier this year (see another review) and now this:

Firstly the waitress was in a spin because the booking was recorded as 12 but there was 13. That caused a great deal of consternation regarding the "plating". We waited over an hour for the food to arrive. The waitress kept reminding us that the booking had changed; hence the delay as the kitchen now had to rearrange platters....I think she would have preferred one of us to leave rather than accommodate 1 extra person.

On arrival we were offered a cup of coffee or tea; over a period of 3 hours I was offered another hot drink and said this time I'll have tea; which was poured straight into the used coffee cup...and it was cold. When a replenish came around about an hour later I said I'd like a refill provided it was hot and I'd only drank half my previous tea; this was totally ignored with a plastered smile and topped up with another cup of lukewarm tea....and we were informed only Earl Grey tea on offer. At all other venues if you are serious about putting on High Tea you offer a choice of teas.

Finally the food arrived; the so over it waitress informed us how many persons per tier; so as it was shared fairly. Obviously no top ups. Every other place we have booked always topped up the tiers but not here. I couldn't believe how stingy and pathetic the tier was presented. See photo. The finger sandwiches were bland and unimaginative; scones the size of marbles and the top tier of sweets was just passable. The lemon meringue the size of a 50c piece was the only sweet worth mentioning.

The other remarkable event was that at the end of our tea as we dutifully went up to the bar to pay our bill another waitress then went around the table with a plate of macaroons...this is 3 hours after the tiers were placed on the table....and only enough macaroons for half the number seated. Why bother?

My advice to the F&B exec staff; either do it properly or don't do it at all.

You cannot charge this amount of $ for such sub standard fare.

We'll be heading for Versace or the Hilton or Royal Pines...way too many other choices than to get ripped off here again
