“Best on the Coast”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 25, 2013

This is a great tapas restaurant. The food is fresh and innovative, Sit at the bar and watch the staff prepare the food before you. Oysters are served on coral and the smoked dish is served in a smoke filled Grange wooden box. The staff are great and the owner James is friendly and very welcoming.
They have also opened a new bar next door called Pigs and Pints. It looks great.
We will be back.

Dear 2crownies,

Thankyou for your kind review. All the staff from the Kitchen to the Front of House staff really appreciate the feedback and the acknowledgement of the hard work that they put in to make the restaurant what it is. We hope to see you again soon for either some Pigs and Pints or for Samphire.

“A Gold Coast Delicacy”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 18, 2013

Nine us on a Friday night, seated in our own dining area. Service was good, barman knew his craft, the waitress advised us to choose 5 items from the menu and they would cater to the nine of us. The food is superb, very tasty, and it's great that the menu changes all the time so us locals won't get bored.

Although you may not get to taste, the zuchinni flowers stuffed with goat's cheese were blissfull, and the pork belly almost as good as home cooked! Have to say that the servings are not large, don't expect that only one serve each will suffice. But Samphires is about experiencing the taste, and the idea is to graze the menu.

The expansion of the restaurant has certainly enhanced it's appeal. Whether a local or holidaying in the best spot on Earth, try Samphires as you won't find anything else like it until you hit Melbourne.

Dear Charlotte

Thank you for your kind review. I am so pleased that you and your group had a good evening in our Private Dining Room. We have just changed the menu, and there are some great new dishes that are sure to be favourites just like the pork belly and the zucchini flowers.
We look forward to welcoming you back again soon.

“Unique”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 4, 2013

While we were staying at Chevron Island, we saw decorated tables on the sidewalk in front of Samphire Bites, set for a special New Year's Eve degustation dinner, and we were entranced by the creations on the menu. We learned that Samphire Bites don't take reservations, so we tried to arrive several days later, just after they opened at 6 pm. The outside seats were already occupied by diners who knew the system better, so we chose what turned out to be the best table for watching the chef and the arranger coordinate to prepare each dish. It was like watching a TV reality cooking show with all of the drama, intense concentration and unrelenting fury. It was more impressive because the chef's left forearm was bandaged, and he could use his left hand to brace things, but not to pick things up. We understand that the menu changes regularly, so it seems useless to recommend here dishes that may not be available in the future. Because dishes would change frequently and we would leave the Gold Coast the next day, our experience resembled the classical one-night stand, in that we enjoyed a peak of sensual delight that will never be repeated again. We tried to hold on to details of sensations connected to previous dishes as the rush of tasting each new morsel pushed out old memories. Some of the flavor combinations were bold such as combining a scoop of lime sorbet with tea cured trout (it works). While we definitely recommend trying the desserts, we felt the real flavor genius came out in creation of new main courses. Service was excellent and sometimes above and beyond. We were looking for a glass of sweet white wine, and we couldn't find one sweet enough on the menu, but the manager allowed us to have a glass of a sweet wine that was not on the menu. Samphire Bites is highly recommended not only as a taste adventure but also as a uniquely exciting display of creativity and teamwork. And parking is no problem.

Dear Trip Advisor Contributor,

Thank you so much for your kind review. It is always great to know that the hard work and passion that the team put in to the business is appreciated.

You will be pleased to know that James's (Chef) arm has healed up nicely and is now back to full strength.

We look forward to hopefully seeing you in the restaurant again soon.

“Wonderful presentation and delightful tastes”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 3, 2013

We were looking for tapas and this place was better than expected. We sat in front of the chef as he prepared his creations and that got our expectations up and when ours arrived we were blown away by the tastes. Only caution is some of the meals are rich so balance your dishes.

“Sophisticated and Innovative!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 20, 2012

If you are on the lookout for creativity, elegance and excitement, definitely don’t walk past Samphire Bites. The tapa style menu is sophisticated and innovative.. their initiative to change the menu every few weeks keeps you guessing and coming back for more! The chefs present each meal impeccably and although you’ll be completely satisfied, you absolutely cannot leave without trying the simply tantalising desserts. And make sure you perfect your experience by ordering a cocktail from the bereted bartender!
