Other than the very friendly and helpful staff, there is nothing sovereign about this 2.5 star hotel. The restaurant and bar were closed for dinner during peak season so the reception staff offered I could purchase drinks and ice cream from a fridge. I requested a non-smoking room and they gave it to me…on a smoking floor. The reception told me people were allowed to smoke on balconies. So I coughed uncontrollably for a couple of hours and lost my voice for the night. Then there’s the shower not in good working condition. The washer was worn out and it wouldn’t stay put. I had to hold the shower head with one hand while trying to wash my hair with the other. Internet was only available intermittently and it was unsecured. Parking was not free and parking off the street was very limited, so valet parking it was. The next morning: The buffet breakfast was ordinary food and the large groups made breakfast very unpleasant as children of all ages spilled food and made a mess where you’re supposed to serve yourself. Buffet breakfast at other restaurants only allow children to be at the buffet in the company of an adult. This hotel manager has a lot to learn about customer service: People don’t come to the Gold Coast to inconvenience themselves. They pay to have a relaxing, good time. You have great staff working at the hotel but your infrastructure and operations leave a lot to be desired.
Overall I had a very unpleasant experience and do not recommend the place.

Room tip: 7th floor has OK views but is not recommended for non-smokers

My family stayed for two nights in this hotel. We experienced some real positives to the hotel.
- good selection at breakfast and a nice dining room to sit in.
- good location to the centre of town.
- the reception staff were especially helpful and polite.
- we asked for a late check out and this was no problem.
- comfy beds.
- balcony view and size was good.
- the jacuzzi/ hydro pool was lovely and warm.
- secure car park at $15 for 24 hours.
- rooms are spacious.

The not so good experience of our stay was
- dated furniture and not in good condition.
- the worktops are worn and damaged.
- the bedding consisted of cotton blankets and a rough blanket. There was no quilt.
- the pool was cold and no sign of a life guard.
- the games room was bare and needed money to play on the games.

We only booked here because we were meeting family visiting from overseas that were staying nearby.
Room was tired, dated, but large enough for a few people.
Bathroom was the worst spot in the room. Bench top cracking with water damage below, shower had mold in the tiles, and the lighting was below average.
Went to call the valet the next morning to collect the car to find out the phone was not working. When we told reception at checkout, they just said the phone system was bad and it needed to be rebooted as it ran on the WiFi! Shame if I had to make an emergency call earlier...

That being said, I will say that it would be nice for someone on a budget.

It is pretty far from anything. Luckily, the tram is only one block away to get you Cavill Ave. if you want to go there...

On a whole, I would not recommend this hotel to anyone.

Alpha Sovereign Hotel is ideally positioned in Surfers Paradise. The advertising says that the rooms are modern but our room was tired. The happy hour advertised daily did not always happen and the restaurant was not always open. The staff were always very welcoming. It is a suitable place for family holiday and conference accommodation. Close to trams. Good valet parking. May need to have own microwave containers as they were not supplied.

Check-in could have and really should always be a pleasant experience. It certainly was not at this apart-hotel. The furniture in the rooms is really old. The bedding, thankfully, was clean.
We had requested for rooms next to each other but that was not met.
