“What a great deal!”
Reviewed June 12, 2007

Contacted the property to book directly with them and got a fantastic deal in the "Gold Tower" part of the hotel.

The room was a great size, featured a very comfortable king size bed, excellent bathroom with a spa and a balcony with great views of the east coast of Australia!

Some of the furnishings in the room looked a little dated, however, the location of this hotel, together with the great deal provided, and free parking made up for it. Staff were always friendly and when we had a minor problem with lighting in the room, it was fixed efficiently and courteously.

After staying at a few other hotels in the Gold Coast, I would probably try to book Crowne Plaza first for my next trip.

I write this at 4am, having been awoken by many bites.
I have a conference in a few hours...

I have captured some bedbugs: Cimex lectularius

I have traveled to 26 countries, 10 in the last year, stayed in all classes, from losmen in Indonesia to hostels to 5 star, and this is the first time I have ever seen bedbugs.

I would recommend the Sheraton Mirage or even the Holiday Inn, both of which I have stayed in In Surfers without being bitten !

Now I'll need to quarantine my luggage when I arrive home.

A quick search show increasing numbers of high end hotels being infested, with at least 3 being sued by disgruntled visitors.

I look forward to management's reaction in the morning !

Hotel is in a good location, and is of a high standard. My partner and I travelled with another couple. While our room was exactly what we had booked - the other couple's room was not. We specified and paid for 2 rooms with spa baths, large balconies and views. Ours had this. Theirs did not. Theirs was small with no spa bath, very small balcony and no views. The hotel told us that they had no other spa rooms left with views. I would have expected them to find something else to a similar standard but they said there was nothing else available. Slightly disappointing when you book to stay in a 4 star hotel. I would have expected better service. Other than this, we couldn't fault the accommodation. Seemed to be very family friendly as well. Very nice pool area and bar/restaurant.

I had stayed in the hotel twice prior when it was the Park Royal, and both times in the Golden Tower. This time we were placed in the El Dorado Tower Room 1501 (Queensize Luxury). The El Dorado is being refurbished floor by floor, with 3 floors already done. The room was in the "older" style (bamboo style furnishing) but still very comfortable, bathroom is very luxurios. All 01 numbered rooms are placed angainst the western wall of the building facing the Gold Coast Highway, and even the 15th floor didn't prevent a great deal of street noise. We only managed sleep by leaving the TV on. The next day we were transferred to room 812, which was on the opposite side of the building facing east, this was much quieter. I would still prefer to stay in the Golden Tower, which must have better acoustics, as I can't remember any traffic noise at all.
You must eat at the 4 Winds located on the top (26th) floor. All the staff were excellent, and handled our complaint with simpathy. Worthy place to stay, but avoid 01 numbered rooms.

  • Liked — Good natured staff
  • Disliked — Traffic noise

The room in the Gold Tower was fairly cheap and I was expecting not to be impressed given the price. The check in was a bit disorganised.
However, the room was really comfortable and had a lovely sea view from the balcony. The hotel restaurant also did really good, basic food. The pool and spa were fairly basic. I was pleasantly surprised with this hotel.

Stayed at this hotel a few years ago and thought that it was a nice, clean hotel to lay your head for the night.

Although it was just one night I would stay here again>

Stayed for two nights, greeted well and thou we arrived early a room was found for us, told we would get a ocean view, thats what we got. Parking was free and first night booked the revolving resturant, view was great the buffet was to dream of and plenty of seafood, as well as hot dishes, wine was not expensive that was a suprise. Overall a great two nights we will be back.
