In a nut shell - lack of air-conditioning, sub-standard rooms, old 14 inch TVs, fans that doesn't work, paint peeling off the ceilings, dirty lounge suites, unsafe Gym equipment, DISGUSTING!!

For $110 a night for a two bedroom apartment, Focus is good value on the Coast. The Focus has lost it's focus. From the missing lightshades, peeling paint and broken furniture, this place has seen better days and the staff do nothing to enhance the experience. More of a "schoolies" or boys holiday pad, you will see lads coming into the lobby with slabs of beer on their shoulders ready for a few days of drinking.
Asked where a good seafood buffet was, the front desk staff didn't even know about the excellent restaurant just next door! The gardens are great, tennis court is well maintained, but kids drinking beer from bottles in the pool and spa was off-putting.
The two sofas in the lounge both had broken backs so were very uncomfortable to sit on.
The wardrobe had just 3 coathangers and a request to have more was ignored.
The downstairs restaurant has now closed, but a short walk (10 mins) away is Cavill Ave

We stayed 3 nights in a three bedroom apartment. The rooms were clean, the views were breathtaking and the positioning of the apartment in relation to surfers night life (important for 21 & 18 yr olds) and closeness to Movieworld and Dreamworld was fantastic. We will definitely be staying there again on our next visit. We are from Adelaide and we have seen some absolute shockers - this is definitely not one of those.

We stayed at focus earlier in 2004, we had booked apartments at the spot after viewing the rooms. It was a great experience, excellent rooms! Location, as everyone has said is certainly on of the best.
This time we booked over the phone, apartments 101 and 58. 101 was a luxury apartment and both apartments had sea views. In 101, all tiled but rooms had carpets. Dirty carpets, smelly rooms (because of the carpets), worn out and broken sofa, good kitchen, clean linen. In 58, all tiled, not that smelly like 101, clean linen, acceptable kitchen and crockery wasn’t too good. Both apartments had balconies and great views. The best feature of Focus for us was the hot water spa outdoors, next to the pool.

My family of five recently stayed at the Focus. T he only thing it had going for it was the beach veiw. The furniture in the apartment was very old, the cushions on the lounge were dirty, underneath where the stove was placed was all rusty. The bath had mould around it which was covered up with clear celastic ! Both toilets made strange sounds after flushing. The place is in desperate need of refurbishing.Got a frypan out to cook in to find it was dirty. The verandah was thilthy with only 2 chairs and a dirty table. Upon leaving told them we broke one plate, they charged us $3.60 for the plate. I would never stay at the focus again. Brisbane Family.

Our family of 6 were booked in for 10 nights. Upon our arrival, we walked into our apartment. The size and location of the unit was wonderful. The bathroom's were newly renovated and the decor was nice.

Our disappointment was the abundance of mold growing on the curtains. This was extremely off-putting. We did complain and someone did come to measure up for new curtains whilst we were there - a bit late for us though.

In addition to this there was an odour as if the unit had been locked up for a long time. The windows were cleaned mid-way through our stay...and what a difference!! It's a shame the apartment wasn't cleaned before we arrived. I think it would have given us a much better experience.

The common area - pool, gym, tennis & BBQ were beautifully kept and it was very pleasant to relax there.

Overall, I don't need flash but I do need "fresh".

A few days after staying at this establishment, Focus Apartments, deducted money from our credit card, alleging that we 'trashed the place'. They were unable to produce any evidence, ironically we'd left the rooms in a better state than we'd found them! After a long, heated telephone call they eventually agreed to send us a cheque reimbursing the amount they deducted, but be warned this might be standard practice.
