“Smelly, spacious, great location”
Reviewed October 29, 2008

Our family of 6 were booked in for 10 nights. Upon our arrival, we walked into our apartment. The size and location of the unit was wonderful. The bathroom's were newly renovated and the decor was nice.

Our disappointment was the abundance of mold growing on the curtains. This was extremely off-putting. We did complain and someone did come to measure up for new curtains whilst we were there - a bit late for us though.

In addition to this there was an odour as if the unit had been locked up for a long time. The windows were cleaned mid-way through our stay...and what a difference!! It's a shame the apartment wasn't cleaned before we arrived. I think it would have given us a much better experience.

The common area - pool, gym, tennis & BBQ were beautifully kept and it was very pleasant to relax there.

Overall, I don't need flash but I do need "fresh".

A few days after staying at this establishment, Focus Apartments, deducted money from our credit card, alleging that we 'trashed the place'. They were unable to produce any evidence, ironically we'd left the rooms in a better state than we'd found them! After a long, heated telephone call they eventually agreed to send us a cheque reimbursing the amount they deducted, but be warned this might be standard practice.

Myself and 3 friends recently spend a weekend at the Focus Resort, and although we where very impressed with the views, facilities and location of the resort, we ended up being the victim of a robbery that took place at the Focus Resort over the weekend effecting a number of apartments. The thieves left with all our luggage, leaving us to enjoy the rest of our stay with only the clothes on our backs and some random clothes that must not have been stylish enough for the criminals resell. When we informed the security staff, we found them to be arrogant and they told us that it was not there problem and this was a matter for us to deal directly with police. They also told us that this was in fact the second time this has happened to this hotel in the past 7 weeks, which had I known that information prior to booking this hotel I certainly would have reconsidered.

The management did arrive later in the evening for what we though might be to 'put our minds at ease', however he was only interested in pointing the blame, and informing us that there was no insurance available to cover our loss. Luckily we got to see the relief on his face when he discovered that not a single item of his own possessions had been removed from apartment (television, stereo, microwave etc). Strange how they took our cheap items but left the more expensive hotel belongings?

In summary, this hotel may be relatively cheap in comparison to other establishments, but with the add on costs of replacing our belongings I regret the decision to stay here. I would strongly recommend avoid staying at this hotel, and instead stay at a complex with more up to date security features and a better reputation of protecting and supporting the customer.

There is no record of this crime happening at this building and the incident would have been reported to police. Also there is no record of a similar theft occuring as the writer describes. The building has fob access only to each floor and security cameras in the lifts and public areas. No person can access any floors without a security fob. I hope this will ease readers minds as there have been no reported thefts as described in this review.

Hello,

First off, i have to say that Focus Apartments was the best holiday resort we have ever stayed at, we have been all around Australia, the UK & Europe & just hadn't found a place as value-for-money as Focus. Myself, My Husband, My teenage Son & My 2 Small Daughters stayed here for 7 nights in September 2006 (we stayed during the school holiday period) & even though the area & apartments were buzzing, busy & bustling, we still found that the area was quiet, safe & private. Before we arrived, we didn't really know what to expect, we were driving for 4 hours to arrive at Focus from our hometown & believe me, we were tired! we wanted to relax, and to our great surprise, relaxation was the first thing we did. in the outdoor carpark there was ample room for many cars & when we arrived at reception (around 2pm), the staff were extremely friendly & were willing to help. Also, there is Underground parking for the Guests once booked in & they were big, allocated parking spaces (more like a garage) because each area had its own door so our car was extremely secure. When we rang to book our room for the Hotel we specifically asked for a higher floor with a sea view & sure enough we were placed on the 26th floor with a spectacular view over the beach! (we'd reccomend booking early for this oppurtunity). we arrived in our apartment & were ecstatic about the spacious bedrooms, kitchen & living area. also, there was free Foxtel so we had the kids settled. My husband & myself stayed in the ensuite bedroom & were delighted with the view! By the way, each bedroom has a balcony! we got a great view of the beach & the city. my 2 daughters had their own bedroom which was also large with a luxurious view over the balcony & my teenage son, had a pull out sofa bed in his own room with a balcony. the main balcony though was the best, we couldnt believe how great it was! we could see from southport through to coolangatta with that view!
what was also good though was the fantastic nighttime view we got from the balconys, the entire city lighting up, the atmosphere was great! also, location for this place is great too, we were a 5 minute walk from the main strip, Cavill Avenue & literally, right across the road from the beach! the ammenities in the apartment were also great, there was only one set of tongs though & they were broken, but believe me - that is a small price to pay when its such great budget, luxury accomodation. the pool was also great (not too crowded either). it was beautifully heated & the spa was also good. the childrens lawn & play area was also a highlight. the gym also has an erray of equipment (which my son found useful!) & the people were all so friendly. One night we decided on going down to have a BBQ together with another couple from our floor (fantastic new friends) & we were delighted at just how big the BBQ area was, it could fite 6 families in there at once & there is privacy areas too. The BBQ area is set on the lawn under some pacific palm trees & gives off a great ambience & the view at night time as you look up into the big city lights was simply overwhelming. there is also an affordable bistro downstairs near the Pool Area which is sure to impress. There is also a Basketball Court & Tennis Court in the grounds (which im sure you will love).

Honestly, we do not have one complaint - best Holiday Experience we ever had!!

I would reccomend this place to you, if you would like some more information you may email me, i will be glad to help & i hope this review was of some use to you.

We stayed in a 3 bedroom apartment within minutes of entering the place we all had black feet. The apartment was filthy! We spent our first night cleaning the place.
We told the manager who admited that the cleaners had been a problem in the past but they have now fixed this and it might be that our apartment was overlooked. We found the staff were not very helpful at all.
The place looks very flashy on the website but when you get there it looks nothing like the photos. The only things going for it is the view, the pool and bbq area.
This was definately not 4 star and we will not be staying here ever again.

we are not fussy people just normal family with three kids i did not expect to have to clean our appartment for two hours when we arrive as the didn't even really try to put it right, just replaced a dirty pllow case and a rusty knife,
you will need to take cleaner, toilet paper, dishwashing power degerent etc

is it worth it,no

We arrived at 10pm and waited for the key to our level 6 unit to be brought to us. The person with the key told us he had just been up to the unit and it hadn't been cleaned, so would we mind waiting while he tidied up.....he would have had since 10am that morning. We went and had something to eat and returned 30 minutes later and the unit was reasonably clean.

Promises were made of a cleaner to attend the following day to clean the whole apartment. As the cleaner never arrived I believe this whole episode was just a charade to do a last minute tidy up for us.

The TV reception consisted of black and white dots. A message left for the owner resulted in no reply. It seems there are units managed by Focus themselves and others by private owners. With the Focus managed units you can go to reception with any problems, but you cant do this with private units and telephone calls can just be ignored, like ours.

It was a nice unit and complex though apart from the lack of attention to our non working tv and the cleaning charade.
