“Weekend in Mantra Sun City”
Reviewed June 23, 2014

My husband and I stayed at this hotel for a weekend. We were surprised when asked to get our room cleaned as it was not done and there was no door hanger/sign "to clean my room" . So we
assumed that the room will get cleaned. When asked one of the staff we were told that the rooms get cleaned only if we stay for 8 days or more. We were shocked by this as we are regular international travelers and we never had a situation like this before not even whilst travelling domestic. Bed sheets had stains, taps were dirty, no desk only one old chair in the room and the side table had a loose foot. Clothes rack in the closet, hanger was stuck and the hanger rail kept falling off. Only one small soap, shampoo & conditioner for the weekend for 2 people while the inclusions did not specify that these things are not supplied daily.
The view and location was good, our room number was 1602B.The staff were friendly. The breakfast was so so nothing exciting and not much choice for vegetarians.

Room Tip: Room number 1602B

Upon arrival the look of the place was stunning, and when we walked into reception we were greeted by the most friendly and welcoming staff.

We got to our one room apartment, and on the initial entrance it was very nice until things started showing. The room didn't seem to be cleaned properly as there was old batteries and someone else's pills on the floor, coffee table was a little broken and some rough patch jobs on the wall.

We spent five days there, with no house cleaning of fresh towels and after being at lower stared hotels and having this service I was very disappointed.

Overall it was an average stay, with the place need a bit of TLC.

For a 4.5 star hotel I must admit that we expected better. The hotel, grounds, elevators, pools, etc were beautiful and very extensive, when we walked through the gates we really did get a feeling of luxury, the gardens and plant choices were good, the sandstone colour choices and architecture of the building were excellent. A nice lobby and very welcoming staff - it was a great atmosphere.

Unfortunately our room was not up to scratch. When we arrived a corner of our coffee table was broken, there was a thin layer of dust on everything, the sheets were stained, the fridge was covered in ancient dirt, the ranch sliders jammed, and behind the door in our bedroom was an inadequate patch up job of two holes in the wall. There were many batteries and a bottle of pills under the bed, and long black hair all through our room - we are both blonde. I don't think the cleaning of the room was very extensive.

We stayed for five nights, over this time we were not offered any room service, no fresh towels, no clean sheets, nothing of that nature what-so-ever. Every time we walked through our hallway there was an awful smell, almost a rotting curry type odour. Not what we expected of a "luxury" hotel. We were woken on more than one occasion with noise that sounded like renovations on the other side of our bedroom door.

Besides these issues, the building, grounds, and reception staff were excellent.

Nice place to stay, however some balcony furniture needs replacing, very rusty and dangerous.
The attached restaurant served up THE worst buffet breakfast I had, to the point where hubby and I couldn't eat it!

Great location, only a short walk to the action of surfers paradise. Asked for ocean views on our stay unfortunately this wasn't passed on by the time we checked in.
Don't expect to shower longer than 5mins. The water will instantly turn cold after this time.

I can only review based on our level 7 room only but I'm sure the higher floored suites offer more.

Dear runamuk22,

Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback regarding your recent stay.

I'm sorry to read that your request for ocean views was not able to be met; unfortuantley not all requests can be met upon request, this is why we encourage guests to book an ocean view suite and in this case the room is guaranteed to have ocean views.

I'm also disappointed to read that your shower did not last longer than five minutes; I offer my full apologies.

Once again, thank you for taking the time to provide a review regarding Mantra Sun City resort.

Had mixed feelings when making this booking based on past reviews. We are a family of 6 with 2 teens and 2 tweens. We were looking for a one-night stay on the Gold Coast over the Queens Birthday long weekend, and this place offered the best value for money in the 4-star category. I understand that apartments will differ, but we felt like we'd won lotto with our amazing 3 bedroom, ocean-view unit (see photos). It was more like 5 stars! We walked in to a stunning, glass from floor-to-ceiling ocean view, open plan living area. All the furnishings and TV's were ultra modern. There was a 10-seater black dining setting, a huge white corner lounge with two separate reclining lounge chairs, a black high gloss kitchen and the tiles throughout were 60cm high gloss white. Absolutely stunning. The views were amazing both at day (all blue ocean and sky) and at night (the Gold Coast was lit up like a Christmas tree). The main bedroom had a king bed with it's own en-suite with a corner spa. The second bedroom had a king bed and it's own en-suite. The third bedroom had two single extra longs. All bedrooms had storage and flat screen TV's with cable TV. There was a separate powder room (toilet and hand basin) and a good sized laundry. The kitchen was ultra modern and fully equipped with Blanco appliances. We had everything we needed in terms of crockery and cutlery etc. There has been lots of comments in this forum about the new tram construction, and I can imagine it would have been noisy. The good news is that it has finished and there is a tram stop right outside the door. It is still not operational to the public, but we watched the trial run stop outside about every 5 minutes, so when it is live it will be a really convenient way to travel into Surfers Paradise. The hotel itself is modelled on an Aztec theme and has heaps of character, much more welcoming than the standard hotels. Lots of 'wows' from the kids when they saw the lobby and the pool areas. The outdoor pool with the waterslides was freezing, but so interesting that the youngest still had to have a go. The indoor 'heated' pool was mildy warmer but out of the breeze which helped. The indoor spa was superbly hot, as was the outdoor spa located behind the waterslides. So plenty of options even in winter. People have commented that the hotel looks 'tired'. Yes you could nit-pick about some peeling paint etc. but seriously, take a look at the bigger picture. Imagine how many people must come through here, and I can't imagine everyone treats things well. After dinner we ventured about 100 metres next door to King Tutt's mini golf for a bit of fun. Nice family activity and so convenient. It you are looking at the photos, this apartment is situated on floor 28. Best weekend holiday we've had in a long time. Will certainly be back.

Dear Lakemp67,

Thank you for taking the time to provide such valuable feedback regarding your recent stay with your family.

I'm pleased the family enjoyed their stay and that the apartment and resort facilities certainly suited your families needs.

We are a week out from the opening of the light rail and it will certainly improve all aspects of transport in an around the gold coast when it is operatinoal.

Once again, thank you for your feedback; we look forward to welcoming you back to Mantra Sun City resort again inthe near future.
