“Tired Old Gal of Surfers !”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 13, 2013

OK , they say location is everything but sometimes the location can bite you on the bum ! This place is definetly for the young uns ! It's only a short 2 minute stroll to the beach and 1 block from Cavill Ave but I found it to be too close !! We had the mis-fortune to have near 24 hour roadworks surrounding the Hotel for the light rail project for the full 5 days which lead to disturbed sleep, not the Hotels fault but for the price we paid you would think a discount could of been offered ?? The rooms are old & dated but I found them clean and the staff , cleaners , front counter, bar, security etc all were pretty good. They do their best with an old product showing her age ! We tried the breakfast once only , terrible, so ate elsewhere !! The noise from the street at 5am as other guests returned and bypassers loudly bid their farewells was common but at least I caught up with a nap on the beach. The place is shared with a backpacker section and really for the price charged falls well short. The under 25 crowd would love it but not for me or a family stay I'm afraid.I would strongly suggest another venue !!!

Good location with a pool, hot tub, a bar and a big kitchen. The place felt quiet run down and needs both a good clean up and some renovations. If you pay $25 a night you could expect more.
The room (Dorm nr 1) had no ventilation, squeaky beds and a filthy carpet. Little space between the beds.
One good thing though, it's not more then 100 m to the beach!

very run down hotel, part shared with backpackers. the bathroom sink and bath were covered in cracks (not hygienic at all), although it was us and 2 children there was only 1 bedroom, the children had to sleep in beds in the lounge, so when they went to bed we couldn't use the lounge and had to sit in the bedroom. It was also very noisy. we were woken up at 3am most nights due to noise from groups below. looks like the whole place needs a really good clean. The kitchen facilities were ok but not a room you would want to stay in for long. Also roadworks outside add to noise, though this is out of their control. I would not recommend for older couples or people with children, ok for younger groups wanting cheap accommodation. It is central to restaurants, beach, pubs and central Surfers though.

Room Tip: higher up rooms would not be disturbed as much by the noise from pool and bar area in middle of the...

Breakfast spread here was very average with hardly much to chose from, there was noise from outside bars and room was a bit inadequate, the great location somehow compensates all that if you are bound to be out for excursions mostly.

My Canadian friend and I stayed a full week here. Great hotel. We had our own room and bathroom (even a fridge) which is great for backpackers and quite luxurious. A pool, hot tub, sauna, kitchen, bbq, and plenty of patios around. Staff is friendly and helpful and the LOCATION IS GREAT. A block to the beach with a couple grocery stores within the block. Only negative thing to say would be the consruction going on is quite loud and hard to sleep in the morning but this isnt the hotels fault and the construction is everywhere and very hard to avoid. OVERALL GREAT!

Room Tip: Floors far from construction

Stayed in a one bedroom apartment in this backpacker style hotel. Apartment was a great size with kitchen (sink, stove, fridge, microwave) and lounge with a separate bedroom and bathroom. It was very dated but for the price and location, we were happy with it for the night.
Free undercover parking, so park the car and walk everywhere.
Only one block from Cavill Mall and 2 blocks from the beach.
Bottle shop, convenience store and pizza shops all within walking distance.
Room was on one of the higher floors and reasonably quiet. We only heard noise outside just before dawn as some party goers were walking down the street outside.
Booked through Zuji.com.au which having pre-paid had a quick check in and check out.
As other reviewers have stated, yes it is dated and things are chipped/cracked, but it all worked (hot shower, TV, comfy bed, working microwave and fridge) so we were content.

We stayed in a 6 bed ensuite room with a view over the pool, Jacuzzi and we could see the beach although it was too cold outside to take advantage of any of the facilities unfortunately! The hostel is in a great location with friendly staff and very clean. Definitely recommend!
