And not a bad lunch either! The whole thing is a little quirky, but that just adds toi the charm. They give you a little card on your way in, and that tots up your bill. If you want to pay separately, each individual just gets their own card, no problem.
So you take a seat in the big, comfy room overlooking the busy mall below, get yourself a drink, then order. There is a choice - quite and extensive one - of pizza, pasta and salad, and the person in the kitchen who takes your order puts it together for you in a few minutes. Order the right dish and you'll pay a trifling $10 for it. I had an Insalata Caprese and Rachel had a Spaghetti Alio e olio, and both were very nice indeed.
To sum up, nice fresh atmosphere, interesting dining experience and good, very well priced food.

With so many options available for dinner these days, it’s hard to single out which restaurants will be a good time and which won’t. For Vapiano’s the only prerequisite is that you like a modern, open restaurant space, great food for great prices, and of course, that you like Italian – but let’s be honest… who doesn’t?!

A wide variety of dishes are available on the menu at Vapiano’s – of course they are limited to the theme of the restaurant, that being Italian, but if you didn’t like Italian food you’ve probably made a wrong choice to begin with by picking this restaurant. The menu is split into three main sections. You can get the pasta, the pizza or wimp out and get a salad. I’ve never personally tried the salads, only because I try to branch out a bit more when I eat out. The pasta and pizza however I can definitely vouch for. The pasta ranges from cheap, simple dishes such as basic tomato and herb sauce for $15 to a more fancy prawn & pesto mix at $21. The pizza price range is much the same, from $14 - $20 all depending on what toppings you want. Whatever dish you choose you can be sure your taste buds are in for a treat.

My usual is the Gamberi E Spinaci. It combines fresh and succulent prawns with a flavoursome cream sauce, accompanied by fresh baby spinach leaves and just the right amount of pesto. The end result is priceless (actually it’s $21 but for the amount of flavoursome fun your taste buds will have, you’re practically stealing the meal at that price)

If pasta isn’t your thing or you just want to mix things up a bit, the pizza is definitely the option for you. My personal favourite is a simple tomato base with cheese and peperoni slices. The perfect combination of toppings is served atop thin, crispy bread. Definitely a more delicious and healthy way to have your favourite junk food than your local dominoes – a much more classy option as well! The cheese literally melts in your mouth, and if you’re like me and get the added tomato and herbs on top, they provided just the right amount of zest to make it feel pop in your mouth.

What’s really fun about Vapiano’s is its open plan. From the bar to the kitchen, and even the seating arrangements, the whole place gives off a vibrant, breezy feel that’s sure to make you feel right at home. If you’re like me and you worry about your food and who touches it, there is the added bonus of being able to watch the chefs cook your pasta as you stand there and wait. There is even a fresh grown herb garden for customers to garnish their dishes as they please. It gives an extra nudge to the already friendly and homely atmosphere.

Only complaint (also seconded by a fellow reviewer, Jasmine) is that the wait for your pasta can sometimes be a bit tiresome, particularly if you are out with your family that includes small children.

If you’re in Surfers Paradise and you want a fresh new dining experience, give Vapiano’s a try. It looks out on the ocean if you choose to sit outside and is the perfect spot to pop in for a quick lunch or dinner with your mates as there is virtually no queue for seats ever.

Food is the key to the heart… right? Isn’t it strange to think then, that we often trust other people to take our orders and hand over the fate of our ever-awaited meals to completely face-less strangers? Wouldn’t it be great if you could give your order directly to the chef, and watch them prepare, cook and serve your meal with a smile… Well, that’s precisely the situation at Italian restaurant and bar ‘Vapiano’.

It’s the aroma of fresh Italian cuisine that draws you to arguably the best modern Italian restaurant in Surface Paradise. As you wait to be seated, you can’t help but watch talented chefs create fresh pasta behind a pane of glass in true Italian style.

Located along Cavil Avenue in Surfers Paradise, this restaurant screams authentic Italian and has an expansive array of mouthwatering pizza, pasta, salad and antipasto options. Once you accept the fact that yes, your eyes are bigger than your belly, and you finally decide upon the meal you think you want most, you’re ready to place your order.

Chefs greet you vibrantly as you approach the open-air kitchen. As a regular customer it’s a familiar procedure. “Gamberi without fresh tomato?” your favorite chef asks. The aromas of garlic, chili and fresh rosemary added at your request lure you closer to your simmering Italian treat, well worth the wait on a busy Saturday night.

Your candle lit table welcomes you, complete with a pot plant of fresh herbs and bottles of olive oil and balsamic vinegar to enhance your meal. The upbeat atmosphere is contagious, perfect for a casual meal with family or friends.

The laughter of staff mingling with patrons, the chatter between old friends and new friends and the dimmed lighting makes for the wonderful ambiance here. Look around; everyone is smiling and enjoying their meal, with taste testing from fork-to-fork between lovers.

Samuel Martin, a family man and a Surfers Paradise local said that it’s his ideal restaurant for the whole family.

“It’s a great place to bring the family because there’s plenty of options for the kids, and it’s a great place to mingle and just catch up without competing with other sounds,” said Mr Martin.

“I often bring interstate relatives here when they visit because while it’s central, it’s not as overwhelming as other restaurants in Surfers… You can still see the action when you sit on the deck outside.”

However, the rave-worthy experience doesn’t end here. Sometimes the simple things, like how to pay the bill is as important as the food, especially when you’re in a big group. Vapiano has adopted what is probably the most efficient payment process – individual swipe-cards that add the cost of your meal and drinks with ease. Simply bring your card to the register, let the staff member present swipe it and your bill will present itself. You can now roll out the door with your satisfied taste buds and prepare yourself for the week that lay ahead… until next time.

As their website declares – and I agree – it’s “the perfect place to kick back and watch the bronzed and beautiful beachgoers go by while nibbling a pizza or sipping a cocktail. Cin cin!”

I was a bit sceptical because this restaurant is upstairs on Cavill Ave (the main mall in Surfers paradise) and I usually like to be in the action but thought I would try it as my mum recommended it. Well, what a pleasant surprise! The two things I loved was the bright airy atmosphere with views to the beach in the distance, and the unusual ordering system. You go up to the open kitchen and order fresh pasta or pizza which is cooked to order - then you collect and take back to your table. Many tables are high with stools which adds an unusual touch. Plus there are a number of $10 specials. I had a lovely pasta and my children had a pizza made in the shape of a rabbits head! We are locals and will definitely be back when we are in Surfers Paradise.

The pasta is delicious (best fettuccine carbonara I've ever had - and I live in Melbourne!)
However I found the bistro-style method of ordering (order pizza at the pizza counter, pasta from the separate pasta counter - wait for your meals to be prepared separately, collecting your own cutlery, balancing everything on trays as you head back to your table) a little difficult to navigate and/or enjoy. When paying approx $20.00 per plate of pasta and $10 per glass of wine, I generally tend to expect at least some form of table service...
