“Great apartments but like living in a nightclub”
Reviewed February 23, 2008

Circle on Cavill is simply stunning. We had a 31st floor, ocean view room and the standard of the accommodation is world class. The one bedroom apartment was stylish and tasteful, while the views stretched most of the way to New Zealand.

Check in was friendly and professional, and we were in our apartment within a couple of minutes of arrival.

The fitout was excellent, with modern furnishings and appliances. The use of light was stunning, though the glass walls on the bathroom would make entertaining difficult. I`m not sure I always want those ocean views from my toilet...

As has been mentioned in other reviews, the noise level was beyond annoying, and lasted on the Saturday night until around 2.30am. We also had at some stage a glass thrown from an upper balcony turn a physics-defying 90 degree angle and come crashing down on ours. Not an ideal experience a 1am....

Facilities are of a high standard with great pools (cold!) and all the restaurants and cafes that you could hope for. The beach is just a stones (glass?) throw away.

I had a few quibbles with things like room servicing (refused to come earlier in the day so walked in during our afternoon nap) and our fellow guests (drunk, loud and not really compatible with our family weekend away), but on the whole the standard of the rooms and the location make this a really good choice on the Gold Coast, and, by local standards, pretty fair value for money.

  • Liked — Location, standard of room...just a touch of luxury
  • Disliked — The noise was simply outrageous and lasted all night.

Two words that come to mind at circle on cavill is lifestyle and modern circle on cavill has raised the bar in lifestyle holiday destinations. All the appartmens we have stayed in are minimalist in design, modern white on grey/earth tones, and open planned, well designed appartments. Views from most appartments are breath taking! (although i would reccomend staying there before the 2010 - due to other developments unfortunately going up in front of it) Resort facilities are all what you would expect from new properties, except the only issue is if you are in the south tower (shorter one) you have to walk through level 3 to get to main pool/resort deck). To match this IGA, bottle shops and divine retail and dining are right at your doorstep! (those on a diet - this place is not a good idea) For those in brisbane - think Portside wharf style. Security and parking facilities are generally good, and fob/keycard entry is standard (a dream over keys). Overall i would reccomend requesting a high floor, because you wont be dissapointed.

  • Liked — New and close to EVERYTHING!
  • Disliked — For those who like traditional opulence - not your style

Stayed at Circle on Cavill mid Jan 2008. Where do I begin? We had booked the apartment through a private owner ($$1.8million)..It was on the 33rd floor in the lower tower (I think thats the north tower). We had booked this 3 bedroom massive balcony not knowing what to expect!!

We arrives 10.30pm and stepped foot into a beautiful foyer with such modern decor! We walked into our apartments and our mouths dropped the view from the balcony was amazing.. it was the sea on one side and the river view on the other, which was just as great!

Lastest technology in all apartments, flat screen TV with foxtel in every room and playstation in the kids room.

Just down stairs on C level is the largest IGA supermarket that I've seen with very good prices. In the circle area on C level theres a very very large flat screen where they show movies at night and sport in the daytime. The restaurants downstairs are of good quality food and reasonable prices. Try Euro for lunch..really nice!!

The BBQ balcony area was big enough to have a 30-40ppl party in!!!

Circle on cavill is located in the heart of cavill avenue just a two minute walk to cavill avenue and another two minutes to the beach.

The only thing I disliked was the layout of the carpark..very woundy with about 4 levels (as we were classed as residents we could only park on P3 marked with a H car spot!! Very annoying

We rented a car from Hertz which was the cheapest deal that I had found and it only took about 20 mins to drive from coolongatta airport.

Really enjoyed our stay!! Magnificent!!

Circle on Cavill has its ups and down, but thankfully more stories to tell on the up-side!

The facilities the hotel provides is great from large swimming pools, gym, parking, bbq/leisure areas and in-house small cinema.

The room itself is quite clean as the hotel is quite new but I felt the furniture was a bit cheap and the colours were a bit wrong, too depressing. The couch was not very big in the apartment and the bed felt like sleeping on paper, just didnt feel right. Bathroom and kitchen were quite adequate.

This new complex that these apartments are part of has cafes, restaurants, clothing stores, supermarket and more but can get quite boring after a while. The dining options in the complex were not that great but a must try is the french bakery! Being very close to the supermarket was great and was about a 5 minute walk to Cavill Mall.

As mentioned in some reviews, the noise is quite noticeable, of course especially at night. This is generally expected in Surfers however we were up 30 floors and also I have stayed at other places in Surfers with nightclubs all around and I never noticed the noise as much as here.

Overall, a nice new apartment block in Surfers which adds to the area with a new hotel/shopping/dining complex.

I read the negative reviews here PRIOR to booking Circle on Cavill, but we were keen to stay in the heart of Surfer's Paradise so took the reported noise issues on notice.
When thinking about staying here it is very important to consider why you are here. Are you after a great place to stay, or a great location to launch from?

We are parents and were traveling with a 5yo and an 18 month old (mobile and dangerous). So self-sufficiency, proximity to everything, and a place to retreat were important factors for us. We couldn't care less about the nightlife.

The Circle on Cavill Apartments are very new and have been built to an extremely high standard. As apartments, they are fully self contained with stove tops, oven, microwave, dishwasher, washing machine, dryer, DVD (plays DivX!!!), video (is this important anymore?), cable TV (poor selection of available channels), LCD TV, etc ... The dishes, cutlery, utensils, glassware all looked like they had just been unwrapped.
The complex has been built for both guests and permanent residents so it is more apartment-like than hotel-like.

Because we had read in other reviews that noise was a problem we specifically requested a 2 bedroom apartment, as high as possible, away from the noise sources. We were given room 2191 which is in Tower #2 (the Northern one, away from Cavill Ave nightclubs), on the 19th floor (about 1/3rd the way up. See photo). It is on the Northern tip of the floor so as you walked in, on your left the floor to ceiling glass looked West to the hinterland, and on the right you could look through the living area to the very large balcony (you could comfortably stand 8 people out there) to the sea out to the East.

When all the windows and balcony doors were shut the apartment was very quiet - double glazing on all windows and tight seals on the balcony doors.

However if you opened the balcony door during the day, the noise levels rose quite high as immediately adjacent to the Circle on Cavill on the Eastern side (i.e. between Circle and the beach) are several sets of what appear to be air conditioning plants that run 24 hrs. They create a constant dull roar.

I have uploaded a QuickTime VR of the room we stayed in, here:
http://www.supload.com/vid/Room%20Pano/1224835425/mov/
When it loads, don't click on the play button. Just drag the image around with your mouse.

At night, even with all the windows and doors closed, you could easily hear yells and calls from street level. This meant on Friday and Saturday nights we could hear some noise from the Circle area which is the grassed circular area adjacent to the apartments that is used as a viewing point to see the giant LCD TV mounted between the North and South towers. I have attached a photo of the TV, taken from the Circle area.

To our relief, the occasional street level noise disappeared after about 11pm, we could not hear any nightclub noise, and we could not hear the large outside TV.

To be affected by light from the TV you would have to be positioned almost adjacent to it. I imagine the noise would radiate to floors 3 - 10 easily if you were in the South end of the North Tower or the North end of the South Tower.

The facilities were of a high standard, and there is a small enclosed external play area for young children with a climbing frame and slide, and a spinning seat. It can be a bit hard to find as the complex is split into the two towers and adjoining walkways.

The pool is not designed for children. If you are looking for a lagoon pool, don't stay here. This didn't bother us as we were interested in the beach and the main Surfers Paradise surf beach is about a 5 minute walk up Cavill Ave.

With regards to service, the room was cleaned each day, beds were made, and towels were changed. We did call about a broken lamp bulb on day 1 but no-one replaced it in the 6 days we were there.

The reception staff were average. They were there to do a job but nothing more. I enquired about theme park tickets because their literature says they can assist. I was told to go to the theme park and buy tickets there.

Another guest who was in line in front of me didn't have a safe in his room and was obviously concerned about some valuables. He was told they hadn't gotten up to installing a safe in his apartment yet, they did not have a general safe (e.g. hotel safe), and no, they would not move him to a room that had a safe in it. I avoided reception wherever possible.

Surfer's Paradise as a location feels a bit run down. There are a lot of buildings under reconstruction. We loved the Circle on Cavill apartment we stayed in but there is not much about the location that appeals other than the beach. There is a lot of beach in the Gold Coast area so next time I think we will try one of the modern apartments on Broadbeach that are immediately over the road from the beach and green parklands, and where there is a lot more outside runaround space for the kids.

Circle on Cavill would be ideal for an older family who wanted to be in the heart of Surfer's Paradise, or a couple or singles visiting for the nightlife or an event such as the Indy 300 car racing.

If you want to stay at Circle but also want to ensure noise is minimised, I would suggest:
- an apartment above level 25
- in the North tower
- on the North West side if you don't care about a beach view (will probably be cheaper as a result).
- not during key events such as School Holidays (unless you are specifically there for the kids), Schoolies Week, Indy car racing.

Had a fabulous time here, beautifully appointed rooms , very spacious with modern furnishings. We had a spa bath as well which was nice. Also had a great balcony with a view of the river, may be an idea to request this room type, as on opposite side to the foxtel screen if events are on. Also, there was a room with free internet access.

The staff were friend and accommodating. The only slightly negative things were that room keys were a bit temperamental and sometimes, and if driving in the carpark you have to think carefully to ensure you enter the correct car entrance, as retail precinct attached.

a) The retail / entertainment complex doesn't close until midnight. Watching TV (in your own room) is impossible - TV cannot be heard - during live entertainment in retail complex.

b) The massive screen (TV) commences at 7am (including Sunday Morning's) - loud.

c) The noise from the nightclub (next block) can be heard throughout the South Block - I believe that on some nights doesn't close until 3am. Therefore, young people leaving nightclub (at 3am) or passing traffic (people walking through retail complex) make an absolute "racket".

d) Will never stay again (no refund) - just bad luck - as Hotel has no control over entertainment / retail precinct.

e) Booked for 3 nights stayed for 2. Moved to q1 where service and amenities were outstanding
