“Art for the community”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 11, 2013 via mobile

It's too easy to bag small galleries and museums for their small collections and often refusal to move beyond their 4 walls. At first glance you might think this gallery suffers from 'small townitis' as well. But, this gallery has a long history of stepping beyond its boundaries and supporting the local artists as well as occasionally testing the waters of international art.

This review might seem like a beat up or even a fluffing of the small collection, but it's born of experience. I like art and have visited many galleries and museums around the world. Big collections are amazing and wonderful and eclectic and inspiring, but a neat and well organised small art gallery like this is well worth your time visiting whilst in the Central Queensland area. Small galleries need your support, just as much by attending and giving comment on the visit continues to demonstrate to the councils and industries that support them can see the benefit in continuing to do so.

Go, enjoy and visit the gift shop. Thank the volunteers, they do a great job of making you feel welcome.

“Nice little gallery”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 22, 2013

Entry was free, we made a small donation to their donation box.
There were some interesting displays when we went and all were labelled very informatively. Its a nice building and was a pleasant way to spend a rainy afternoon :)

“Excellent introduction to the city!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 10, 2013

I visited the art gallery today as part of my 24hour whistle stop tour of Rockhampton and was very impressed! From the second I walked in, the staff were particularly friendly and informative. I enjoyed the galleries, particularly the children/teen reflective Impressionism tour. The gallery was prestige and I would recommend that everyone takes time to visit this attraction whilst visiting Rockhampton.

“Lovely regional gallery”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 24, 2013

This gallery joins the Pilbeam Theatre, set on the banks of the Fitzroy River. It has three galleries that I saw, each one quite small, it also has a small gallery shop filled with manufactured items, this was quite disappointing, would have expected it to be filled with local artists work! I always visit each towns galleries/museums whenever possible. The displays were very interesting. There was no charge to see this gallery.

“Quite boring”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 23, 2013

Mum and I normally love art galleries so we automatically went to it in Rocky. However, we were quite disappointed. The staff were not friendly and huffed and puffed when we asked them questions. The displays were all modern art - some actually quite crude and offensive. We probably spent 10 minutes or so in there and then gave up and walked out. Would not recommend.
