Having arrived in Rockhampton for just a couple of nights with the sole purpose of putting some time between us and Airlie Beach to allow the bad weather that they were having to move now we weren’t expecting much but, found the Rockhampton YHA a good little hostel. We paid $22 per night for a spacious 8 bed dorm with A/C and lockers (own padlocks needed). Again one bed was in front of the A/C so who ever was in that bed was very very cold. The hostel is a good 20 minutes walk from the centre and a 10 min walk to Woolworths. It has a good pool area, internet access, Kitchen (well quipped) and a TV lounge with free DVDs. The staff were very helpful and friendly as well as providing a free coach service to the Greyhound bus stop. We found Rockhampton a pretty poor town with not much to do and will not be going back and would not recommend going there if you haven’t been. As a result we stayed in the hostel the 2 nights and found it had a good atmosphere with some cool friendly backpackers (many of who were have seen on the rest of the east coast). If you do find yourself in Rockhampton then we would recommend this hostel.

There isnt much going on in Rockhampton but if like me you're looking for somewhere to stopover on for the night then I'd definately recommend this hostel.

Its very quiet and quite small and in a quiet area of town. The staff are super-friendly and helpful and theres also off-street parking (for cars). I stayed in one of their cabins which has its own en-suite bathroom, a fridge and a super comfy double bed. It was really clean and it great nick and not a sign of any bugs or creepy crawling things.

On the down side, the kitchen wasnt very clean and the bins were literally overflowing onto the floor. Most of the utensils etc werent too clean either. But its perfectly functional. Also the internet speed is really really slow so I wouldnt spend money on it.

Overall this was a great place to overnight and I'd definately recommend it.

Rockhampton YHA is very basic, we stayed in one of their cabins and it was already inhabited with various insects and bugs. also, a drunk man knocked on our door in the night thinking it was his room!!
The only good thing about this hostel was the free pick up and drop off to the bus stop.

The Rockhampton YHA is a rip off. It is really not worth going to i hated my stay there they didnt have any facilities like a pool and there rooms were the size of laundries. I went there in year 1999 and it was the worse place i have ever stayed at and me my grandma and cousin have never forgot about it.
