“All steaks are amazing”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 22, 2013

I had 3 different meals at the Riverside. All of them were steaks. Rump, ribs, were very tasty and tender.
My style is medium rare, but I also recommend just medium.

“Great food & atmosphere!!”

Could not have been more impressed. Staff were friendly, venue was stunning and the food was delicious. Even shared a sticky date pudding for dessert and that just topped it off. Highly recommended!

“UNDER COOKED RAW SEAFOOD”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 1, 2013

Unfortunately Rockhampton has very little to choose from when dining out. Know as regional Qld's fast food and pub/club food capital it was nice to think there was a couple of restaurants you could count on for quality food & service. Sad to say that it seems one more has been crossed off the list - Riverside Restaurant at the Travelodge on Victoria Pde. We have dined here in the past more often than any other restaurant in Rocky, having celebrated Mothers Days, Birthdays, Anniversary, Business meetings and a couple of wedding receptions at the venue, and to say we were disappointed tonight is a gross under statement. This review is quite long only to give anyone who wishes to read it a full story.

We were greeted in the usual friendly manner by front of house staff and promptly shown to our table of 4 to celebrate our daughter's 18th birthday. Great atmosphere and we were looking forward to a great night.

Drinks took a good 10 minutes to arrive at the table. Then we were asked for our order. Ok at least food is on order within ten minutes. Quite disappointed that the menu was limited and not offering the range of what I remembered from last visit. Tried to order a loaf of bread for starters only to be told they were small and we would need one each. Okay let’s get the lemon & herb sourdough only to be told perhaps we should order two. Okay.... let’s get $24 worth of bread...should be good.

20 minutes later out comes 4 pieces of sourdough toast with a slight hint of lemon. Under whelming to say the least.

40 minutes after arriving the mains are served. Walnut Chicken with Risotto was okay. Risotto quite wet but the chicken breast was moist and a good sized serving. Beef curry with pine nut rice was OK but not anything special. Then came the two Seafood Parcels. Presented well and the 2 of us who ordered them were looking forward to a selection of seafood presented a bit different.

The first prawn I had was cooked nice, but then I went for the piece of Red Emperor and it was raw. The potato was hard and half cooked, none of the pippies (4 in each dish) had opened (indicates not cooked) and the next prawn was raw. The same meal ordered by my wife was exactly the same. Completely undercooked. Not game to try any of the other seafood in either parcels.

When we pointed this out to the wait staff they were polite and apologetic as expected and said they would tell the chef and agreed the meal wasn't properly cooked. A few minutes later our waiter advised us the chef would continue to cook our existing meals (nice move let's cook seafood twice to turn it from undercooked to rubber) or we could order something else but we discovered that if we didn’t want to wait another 30 minutes we couldn’t order the pork. Ok lets have 1 beef curry and 1 lamb shanks.

Then asked if we would like any drinks while we wait. Not offered as complimentary though. Had to pay for them so that's a bit more to the bill.

While two of us were eating our new mains and the others were waiting for us to finish/start, the discussion at the table later turned to wondering if we would be offered some sort of consolation?

Perhaps we will be offered something for dessert or a coffee on the house. Nope. we waited and weren't even approached about dessert.

Okay we'll go and see what we will be charged. Now I wasn't at the restaurant to get a freebee and don’t expect it but after this experience I would have thought I'd be offered more than an apology from an embarrassed front of house staff member. Nothing. Poorly cooked seafood is an extreme health hazard and I do hope the chef is embarrassed about allowing poor meals leave his kitchen.

Front of house staff try thier best but I think the manager and his chef need to seriously look at what they are presenting to Rockhampton.

Seems like we will be looking for another restaurant to celebrate our future family milestones.

“Poor quality food”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 5, 2013

We went here for the second time as our first time eating here was lovely (and on a weekday)...this time our experience was completely different.

We arrived at the table and noticed there were ants crawling all over our white linen tablecloth and menus...we asked to switch to sit indoors and were met with a table that wasn't even set (no tablecloth). It was a weekend and there were several large parties sitting nearby, including a bridal shower which made it very noisy. We ordered the starting bread with four dips and to be honest, the dips were very weird. There were 4 pieces of bread and as we couldn't use the dips up, we asked if we could order more bread, or even fries - and they said it would take forever to cook and refused to take the order.

Once our mains arrived we were so disappointed with the quality of the food. The meat in the dish was cooked averagely, but the sides, oh the sides...terrible. 1/4 of a corn on the cob and a piece of broccoli does not count as sides.

I think the problem with this restaurant is the chef - the decor is lovely, just gotta invest in some ant poison; but otherwise, it's got great potential. Change the chef.
