We booked a 2-bedroom unit but on arrival were told, in a very agressive way, that that couldn't have been because they don't have them... they do however have family rooms, what a joke, a double bed and a single in the lounge and 2 singles in a bedroom, for a family where is the lounge space? We ended up in a 1-bedroom unit - which in fact is what I call a "studio unit" as there was a double bed and 2 single beds in the lounge, a bathroom, a microwave, toaster, jug - but no sink to clean dishes. Our rubbish bins were never emptied during our stay, nor were our beds made at any stage. The towels were changed daily but they were very poor quality towels and grubby marked looking. Overall ok for the occasion because we didn't spend much time there at all, mainly just for sleeping ... but don't move the furniture or beds because they obviously don't either!

We stayed three nights and found our room to be clean and more spacious than more recently constructed places. However in spite of the relatively recent paintwork it is definitely getting to the end of its life. A toaster and microwave mean that limited food preparation can take place but lack of proper washing up facilities mean that dishes have to be cleaned in the vanity unit which is not desirable.

The room was very dark during the day as curtains could not be pulled back but was quite OK at night. A very large flat-screen television dominated the room.

Linen was changed once during our stay and staff were friendly.

The room rate for $130 a night is OK, especially considering that pet friendly motels are hard to find. The room was large, the shower was hot and the bed comfortable. The Ambassador is on a main road but our room had no windows facing the road so we were not affected by noise.

We tried the restaurant and it was OK (we had low expectations).

Room Tip: Rooms 1 - 5 have the best position for noise and parking and are at ground level

Having our dog with just was not a problem for this hotel! We were pleased with the room, it was clean and fresh smelling, staff were friendly and helpful! It's not a luxury hotel by any means but well worth a look if you like to travel with your pets!

I paid $825 for five nights for the family unit. The hotel was overpriced unless I was paying for the extra room-mates ie cockroaches and mice. The lounge was ripped and covered with a patched sheet. The bed sheets were also patched and almost threadbare. The tiles were cracked and dangerous and the air conditioning was extremely noisy. The bottom of the shower cubicle was peeling and decrepit and covered with a dirty mouldy plastic mat. The only reason that I stayed was that I was attending a course at the university and didn't have the time to find alternate accommodation. This hotel is not 3 star by any means and it should be re-assessed.

I would have enjoyed a dip in the pool after a hard day but it was filthy because the automatic cleaner was not being used, possibly broken.

I have stayed several times at the Ambassador, both through work and privately. It is located at the north end of Rockhampton as you are heading out of town. Not to far from petrol stations, some eateries and shops.

I have always found the staff to be friendly and the room of acceptable cleanliness.

I like the fact that the parking is easy and under cover, not like some of the other motels where the parking is so tight you are in danger of hitting other cars.

Another reason I like to stay here which may seem a bit strange is that it is justs across the road from the cemetery and it is a nice quiet place to go and walk or jog around to get a bit of exercise away from noisy, smoggy traffic.

The other place I don't mind staying at in Rockhampton is the Golden Fountain - which is on the southern approach into town. People there are always friendly, good parking and good price.

I am not sure where the last reviewer stayed but it certainly does not reflect our experieince. We booked suight unseen as this is the only motel in Rockhampton that allows pets in the room. We thought it was going to be terrible but was pleasantly surprised by how spacious and clean the rooms were. No hint of dog smells - tiles on the floor. We were pretty tired so ordered room service and had the best (and largest serve) of steak sandwiches and chips. We were on the highway and could hear the occasional truck rumble by but not to the extent it was distrurbing. Cable TV. Shower a bit small but a good size bathroom area. The staff were friendly and helpful. There were families, older people, couples and workers booked in - didn't see anything unsavoury and didn'e hear any of the other guests. Higjly recommend this motel if you are travelling with pets.

Room Tip: If you have pets, it is better to stay on the ground floor.
