We stopped off here on our way from Brisbane to Airlie Beach and were delighted with our stay. The room was a good size, clean and comfortable and the shower was excellent with nice cosmetics. Marion and Stan were very welcoming and friendly and we had a wonderful breakfast on the verandah right outside our room. Stan showed us round the house and the work they have done on it and all the rooms look great and the pool very appealing. I would highly recommend the Athlestane House if you are looking for accommodation in Rockhampton.

We stayed at Athelstane house, overnight only, en route to Airlie Beach. The house is a beautiful old Queenslander. Very clean and nicely appointed. Beautiful antiques. We arrived rather late and were warmly greeted by Stan. Excellent pub/restaurant recommendation - the Criterion Hotel. We had a very nice rest then a great breakfast and were on our way. A third room is in preparation which looks like it will be fantastic. Enjoyed an early morning run through the botanical gardens nearby.

Athelstane House is terrific. It is a Queenslander House built in the late 1800s and has all the character and warmth of somewhere really special. The owners Stan and Marion live in the basement area and there are two guest rooms on the ground floor, both which have french doors leading on to the veranda where you have a sumptuous breakfast. The house is stylishly furnished with high quality period furniture reflecting the uniqueness of the property. Although the house is from the late 1800s the bathroom is very modern and has a very powerful double shower, most welcome after the humidity of the area. We loved staying here as we it felt quite special, and enjoyed the comfortable lounge where there was complimentary sherry or port, a nice touch to finish off the day. Stan and Marion have made their property into something special which they wish to share - all I can say is go and give it a try.

We have just returned from a visit to the UK and Scotland in June July and stayed in many lovely b and b's. This Rockhampton b and b is world class. We stayed there for our second year on way to and from Keppel Island and will be going back next year when they will have their swimming pool finished. We will stay longer next time. The rooms are delightful, with lovely breezes on the Athelstane Range, near the fabulous Botanic Gardens, overlooking the city. Breakfast with visiting parrots and overlooking the lovely garden was a delight. Best of all is the friendship of the owners who always make us feel most welcome. Thank you to Marion and Stanley.

*****
This gorgeous period B&B is definitely 5 star. From the street the house instantly catches your eye with it's turret, white picket fence and beautiful cottage garden. As you walk up the path to the double front doors and verandah the entry hall leads to two large bed rooms with ensuites and walk in robes fully kitted out with tea and coffe making facilities (including biscotti). Every little thing has been considered in these rooms. The towels in the ensuites are large, soft and fluffy. In the showers are large pump bottles of salon quality shampoo and conditioner! The large beds are made up with Sheridan linen and are as comfortable as sleeping in your own bed at home (if not better). Each room has a wall mounted LCD TV and DVD player. Casual, stylish elegance is the name of the game here with several table settings on the deck to relax into with a wine before heading out for dinner. After a perfect nights sleep breakfast was to die for with a seasonal fruit platter and yoghurt, tea and coffe and the absolute best scrambled eggs, bacon and tomato I've ever tasted. At breakfast the lorikeets arrive on queue for their piece of the action with Stan feeding them from a large bird bath in the garden. Photo ops abound with these cheeky birds perching all around curious as to what we've been served. I'll definitely be returning to Athelstane House and encourage anyone travelling to or through Rockhampton to do the same. What a winner.
