This restaurant has the best rainforest setting you could imagine. We had a beautiful lantern lit table along the edge. I had a flowering ginger growing right next to me and almost bowing over my table.. The fragrance was marvellous. The high backed chairs also give you a feeling of privacy. We chose a la carte dining for our party of 4. Highlights were the prawn spring rolls and the pan fried coral trout with its delightful combination of crunch and sweetness from the orange sauce . We had a few spits of rain and within seconds a high canopy of canvas appeared as if by magic . Our friendly Welsh waiter offered us pashminas in case we were cold but fortunately NQ rain tends to be warm unlike the southern states. The dessert menu offered classical fare such as creme brûlée and chocolate fondant . There is a good reason why dishes like this have been on menus for decades and the beautiful preparation and presentation at nautilus reminds why we still love our old favourites. Nautilus is a total dining experience. Very romantic.

Expensive - we had the degustation menu with matching wines, but well worth it! Absolutely amazing location, excellent service, stunning food.

A must do in Port Douglas.

Seating - must book, arrive a little early, have a drink before being seated, and ask for a table along the side when you book. A bit more privacy.

Thank itsBG

We had been told by friends that making a special trip to Nautalis was a must do in PD (they did note that the food was less impressive). We should have heeded their warnings about the food. Whilst the setting and service was excellent, the food and decor is stuck in the '80s! For the prices they charge we would expect 5 star quality - we have had better tasting food at local pubs. If you need to tick the boxes for Australian dining experiences (like Sounds of Silence etc etc), then go to Nautilus. However if you appreciate quality food, at the prices Nautilus charge, then we'd suggest you give this place a miss - maybe just pop up the path for a quick look and drink in the lounge.

Like all reviews on trip advisor state, the setting was OUTSTANDING! An amazingly special dining experience that is unlike any other! The staff were very kind and informative and really made us feel welcome! The food was delicious, just what you would expect from a high class restaurant like this. Most enjoyable!!

Had a celebration Dinner here and could not have been more impressed. Set back from the main drag you really felt you were in the middle of a tropical Rain Forrest. The Service was top class and the food even better. We didn't find it as expensive as everyone was going on about - Go to a pub in perth and you pay the equivalent prices. Will definately be visiting again on our next trip back.
