“Good food, great location, nice place for an afternoon drink”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 19, 2013

We enjoyed a nice lunch at On the Inlet and enjoy being right on the water. Food quality was very good and pricing on the high side (like most Port Douglas restaurants). Would recommend for lunch and drinks.

“Overpriced”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 18, 2013 via mobile

Do not go to this restaurant if you don't eat seafood. There are only 2 meals on the menu that aren't seafood. My mum was very excited to have the crab before she realised it was $90 a kilo. We arrived early to see the groper but the crowd was too big so we saw nothing at all. Then we had to wait an hour until the bistro opened. The view is nice but there are a lot of mozzies. The steak and potato was $40. I won't be going back.

“Still terrible service at the highly acclaimed on the inlet”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 17, 2013

Two years ago when visiting Port Douglas we were recommended this restaurant. We wandered down one lunch time to find one table being used and the rest empty. We had a couple of drinks at the bar and then decided we would have some lunch. We were asked by the Head female mat rede "did we have a reservation" - we said No but you are not rushed off your feet are you, she replied that most of the tables were reserved, especially those with an ocean view. We checked out watches and said it is 1.45pm when exactly are you expecting the rush. She eventually gave us a table in the now empty restaurant. The food was adequate the but the service was not welcoming. So two years later and just last night we return with two of our friends who are keen to see the fish being fed. Because of our previous memorable experience I telephoned ahead and requested a table for 5.30pm. Some confusion on the phone as the gentleman told me I could not book until 5pm, I enquired why and then he said the restaurant does not open till 5pm, so I asked if I could make a reservation for 5.30 to which he replied yes. Booking made we rocked up to find a crowded restaurant all peering over to see the fish being fed. We went to the bar, our first experience and were met with a warm smile from a nice lady. We then got our number for our table so that we could purchase drinks and put them on our bill, she was very helpful, however the guy behind the buy was not friendly and too busy making margaritas to crack a smile. I then told the maitre-de that we were ready to sit down, she said "just wait a minute" and then proceeded to lay up a table, we wandered over to one of two four seated tables and sat down, we were then approached to be asked "did you book this table guys" we replied with "we have booked one table of 4 and they are very much the same" the Maitre-de then approached us and yes of course - moved us on to the next table directly next to the one we were sitting at - completely pointless but lets not forget Who is in control here! Never the mind you are customers. Then we were asked if we wanted more drinks by a young man that promptly tripped over our friends handbag - one would have thought he had been shot in the knee the way he reacted and looked to our friend for an apology - surely it should have been the other way around. Eventually a nice waiter who took our order for 4 starters, we had already decided the welcome had been so poor we were unlikely to want to prelong our visit. The starters - scallops - utterly tasteless the prawns likewise the calamaris was nice. The food looked pretty but taste is where is it at when you are paying at that level. We love fine dining, the inlet is not that - table cloths would be nice - food that taste good would be great - but overall - remember who is the customer, who is spending their aussie dollars $141 for a couple of drinks and horrible starters - in your country to boost your economy - Good Service starts from the top down - yours is sadly missing in most areas. We will not be returning.

“The seafood tasted like it had just been plucked out the ocean!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 16, 2013

What a wonderful dining experience. The seafood was so fresh, it almost winked at me. The food here was delicious and wonderful scenic ocean view. The ambience here is great and there seemed to have lots of waiters and didnt skimp on service at all. Waiters had great knowledge of the ingredients in the food (very important) and ours made a point of saying he always trys the new things on the menu so he knows what they taste like.
This is a must do place to eat in Cairns. The lovely lady at the Mantra Aqueous recommended it and said its where the locals go to have a good feed! We concur. It was great.
