“limp salad”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 4, 2013

just to start l am from cairns and have been to the Courthouse Hotel a few times and would usually recommend people to go there it usually has great vibes and food but 30th Aug must have been a bad day for the Chef there and the staff must have all worked 10-14 days straight because that was the looks on all their faces not a friendly face to be had by anyone the food was very poor ... we had the Texas TBone and usually everything in Texas is Big someone forgot to tell the chef as this Tbone was no bigger than a lamb loin chop lucky we also had the pork ribs full rack which made up for the size of the t bone and were delish but the salad looked like it had been left in the fridge for 2 weeks and was dragged out to fill up the space on the plates no dressing applied or offered went to find some none avail the chips were over cooked and looked like they had been in the fridge with the salad as they were the same temp and limpness price was ok but wont eat there again as there are so many other places to choose from why would we bother :(

“Good bar food, live music”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 3, 2013

Went on a Sunday. There was live music which is a nice touch. Very lively atmosphere. Not sure if its every day. I had a fish sandwich which I enjoyed. Being from Florida, I'm pretty used to fish sandwiches but find they are not that popular in Oz, so I was pretty happy. My wife had a box of prawns. They were OK. Big, plump prawns, but somewhat lacking in flavor. I had just seen a cooking show featuring New Orleans where they cooked the prawns in about a pound of butter with cajun spices. So, plain prawns were a bit of a letdown. I'd say the cook needs to add some "Bam" to the prawns if you know what I mean (if you don't, look up emerl lagasse if you've got nothing better to do). Beer was good, food came out quickly even with a packed house. Prices OK for what you get. Great fries, uh, chips. The only real negative is that they allow smoking in the live music section. Great if you smoke, not so much if you happen to be eating downwind. But, it is a bar after all, and we sat well away from the smoking area.

“North Queensland Beef and Beer :)”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 28, 2013

To start off with keep in mind this is a pub bistro. I think Queensland beef has a very very distinctive and delicious flavour. I had four steaks over four nights - in two pubs and two high end restaurants. The court house steak was the best of the four for flavour and quantity. It was cooked to perfection and the salad was great as well.

The staff were great and the beer was cold. Lots of entertainment and just generally a nice place place to eat and relax in.

“Simple food done well, ordering anything a little more complex you won't be satisfied.”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 28, 2013

I dined here about two hours prior to making this review. Seeing the food that was being brought out whilst I walked past made me think I would leave a happy boy with a full tummy. Boy was I wrong.
I ordered the Kangaroo Grill on a bed of mash. (Main meal) I finished it before the plate hit the table. There was not enough there to be at all satisfied with. Now obviously this is a little exaggerated but I really don't think that there should be this sort of portion size inconsistency in a restaurant. The Parma, fishnchip, calamari and salads were awesome. So like I said, Simple food done well, ordering anything a little more complex you won't be satisfied.
