“Trendiest hotel in Port Douglas”
Reviewed August 2, 2012

My wife and I have had a wonderful 2 nights so far at QT (2 more to go).
The hotel has recently been refurbished and is a standout from the tired norm in Port.
Staff at the hotel have been very friendly and helpful.
The pool area is great and the reception/restaurant area very funky.
Travellers be aware QT is a walk from town (30 mins or so) but there are regular shuttles.
Only complaints would be small things - no safes in rooms, smallish room sizes, some of the niceties ( tolietries, restaurant bathrooms, etc) not quite 5 star.
But all in all a great hotel, and excellent value. Highly recommended!

Dear Romily T,

Thanks for a beautiful review. I hope that the rest of your stay was a wonderful as the start.

QT really does buck the trend in terms of what a resort offers travellers. The designer furnishings and finishes really give a fresk take on old favourites, and the food and beverage are really second to none!

We would love to see you back with us soon.

Stayed only one night via a wotif mystery deal. The setting, the lobby area and the pools were all well done and very clean. Loved the table tennis and pool tables in the lobby/bar area. As far as the rooms go, we had a basic hotel room which was not very spacious but the small balcony overlooking the park behind the hotel provided a lovely spot to sit with a glass of wine. We ordered room service - a pizza and salad which were delicious and prompt. The best things about QT are the Bazaar restaurant (which I have reviewed separately) and the staff, all of who we found to be cheerful and helpful.

Room Tip: Obivously with the Wotif deals you usually dont get the best rooms a so if you want more than the st...

Wow! Scoring QT on a wotif mystery deal! Now that is a stroke of wonderful luck. We are so delighted that you got got experience the property, if only for one night.

I've got to agree with you on the in room dining pizza. It is truly delicious and tastes just like a gourmet pizza should - crispy and fresh.

Please try is again next ime you are in Port Douglas.

We really enjoyed our 5 -night stay at QT in July - loved the layout, the way it was decorated and all the quirky little touches. The staff was friendly and the room service excellent when we needed to eat in after a tiring day. We loved the fact that our apartment and the garden felt quiet and serene. We felt it was well worth every cent and would definitely stay here again.

Dear Biddy S,

Sounds like you had a gorgeous time at the resort. We've really tried to give you guys the best of both worlds - a place to vamp it up when you are wining and dining, and lovely spaces full of a cool calm that is perfect for a 5 day getaway.

So glad to hear that we hit the mark, and we'd love to take care of you again.

QT Port Douglas is unlike any hotel I have ever been to before. The vibe of QT is exciting, quirky and fun, and this is reflected in every aspect of the hotel from staff uniforms to room decorations. I stayed at QT for 6 nights in mid July with my sister. We were keen to get away from the cold Canberra weather, but didn't want to stay in a hotel that was all about couples and romance. QT was perfect for what we wanted! Our one bedroom apartment provided us with enough space so that we didn't feel like we were living on top of each other, and we loved the peacock that visited our balcony every once in a while! The buffet style food in Bazaar is so delicious and beautifully presented. The service is also worth mentioning, the staff were wonderful, especially Britney who was so lovely and helpful. The bar and pool bar are excellent, as are the staff. Be sure to hunt down Dennis the awesome bar manager as his cocktails are the best! Have a chat with him about what you like to drink and I can guarantee he'll whip/shake up something delicious for you. All in all, we had an amazing time at QT Port Douglas and we can't wait for another excuse to return!

Dear GG1990,

A review from a Senior Reviewer! Awesome, and you loves us! Even more awesome.

Shivers. Canberra in winter. I bet you couldn't wait to get away fro the frost. That is a whole new level od freezing down there.

Thanks so much for covering off all of the wonderful points of your stay, they really are the bits that make up a wonderful hotel experience.

We will share you kind and lovely words with Dennis. He really is a force to be reckoned with in the bar!

We hope you make us your annual winter pilgrimage.

Great renovations to this property, smallish rooms and not very comfy bed (with two beds pushed together, my new pet hate!) but the gardens and pools are a winner! The young, cool staff are all lovely and the 'bazaar' type eatery is a fresh take on the buffet. Would most probably stay again.

Dear GG 1990,

6 night in paradise - what a dream break! You must have loved the beautiful weather up there after the cold snap we have been having in NSW.

That peacock (who we have named KatyPerry) is so fun! Especially when you have had a couple of martinis and are chilling on your balcony and decide to chase it around to try and feed it!

Thanks for letting us know that you appreciated the work we have done on the property. It really does look beautiful. Also thanks for the staff shout outs. I'll pass them on to the team

Our family of four recently spent 8 nights at the QT Resort Port Douglas. We were pleasantly surprised at the quality of the hotel. I booked over the phone and included breakfast in our rate (well worth doing, the breakfast is wonderful!) and this process was very smooth and simple.
Upon arrival the check in staff were fabulous - although we arrived early and our room wasn't ready they were very accommodating and within an hour or two our room was ready. Our luggage was taken to our room for us (given it was up a flight of stairs this was very helpful!) and our car was parked for us.
We booked a two bedroom apartment and the rooms are typical of tropical destinations - tiled floors and a bit smelly (that humid/closed room smell) but nothing that opening the sliding doors couldn't fix. Our view looked out over a cute lagoon that winds around the resort and our room had three balconies (one in the master bedroom, another in the living area and the third from the kids' room). Whilst we loved our time at QT, our one complaint was the standard of housekeeping. Unfortunately this let the hotel down in our opinion. Our floor was not clean from the time we arrived (you could feel "bits" on your bare feet) and the bathrooms were not as clean as most 5 star hotels. The hotel toiletries were placed in really lovely glass vase type containers but unfortunately all ours were soaking wet (obviously the previous guests had reached in while their hands were wet and it hadn't been checked by housekeeping) so our soaps etc were all a bit soggy :(
There was ash from cigarettes on our outside table setting and a build up on insects in the corners of the bedrooms. And although our room was serviced daily our sheets were not changed the entire stay, nor were the floors vacuumed or mopped.
This aside though, we loved the hotel. The pool area was wonderful for the kids and the poolside bar was excellent (the $6 slider burgers are delicious!). The waitstaff were absolutely fantastic - breakfast was one of our holiday highlights. The food was great and service was even better. We loved getting to know the chef (from Sri Lanka) and the waiters/waitresses (locals, Irish, USA). We've stayed at many hotels with seasonal staff, but I've never had such wonderful service from staff that would be casual/seasonal from around the world.
The gym is EXCELLENT! There's a couple of treadmills, a cross trainer, weights machine, free weights, even boxing facilities and a trainer on site. Unfortunately the opening hours are limited and the lap pool was not available while we were there due to maintenance. But the fitness facilities are great. We booked one of the two tennis courts while we were there and had a great game (although a little hiccup with the tennis racquets - the hirers before us had not returned them all so we only had 2 racquets for 4 players).
The Moonlight Cinema is on-site and this was a great experience for our kids. The balmy weather made for a great night out at the movies. We hired the beanbags and it was a good night for us all.
We tended to eat out in Port Douglas more than we normally would in an apartment style hotel due to the limited kitchen facilities (ie: convection oven/microwave, no dishwasher & tiny sink, limited bench space).
The furnishings within the rooms were contemporary and bright, perfect for a resort holiday. Not luxurious, but just right for the relaxed style of the hotel. There is a pillow menu available, but unfortunately none of the pillows are available! We requested feather pillows (as we found the foam ones on offer to be a bit hard & flat) but were told by housekeeping they don't have feather. We told them it was on the pillow menu and they advised they'd see what they could do - they brought us more foam pillows. It didn't bother me too much, but they definitely weren't the most comfortable pillows ever and the mattresses were very, very soft.
If you're looking for a great family hotel, relaxed environment, good staff, great breakfast, this may be just what you're looking for!

Dear Ali_mumoftwo,

Now that review is what TripAdvisor is all about! People logging on and giving a blow-by-blow description of their stay.

It is invaluable to us as a new property to get such comprehensive and even handed feedback. Every single point you made will be addressed and all fixer-uppers will be remedied.

Thanks so much for taking the time, both on behalf of the property, and of other TripAdvisor users (myself included). That was a really awesome effort.
