“Magical!!”
Reviewed September 19, 2012

It was beautiful! We did the Saturday night individual dining option with the 7 course tasting menu. The setting is breathtaking, it's so mystical when you arrive to a flame lit path, and huge lit chandeliers dangling from the black tent ceiling.

The lighting is what makes it so nice, candles everywhere and it's so dim and pretty. The food is wonderful, and even my partner liked it - they have unusual tastes like smoked crocodile and kangaroo (he usually won't even eat sushi). I don't think it would have been as nice if we had done the sharing platter option on the Friday - maybe with a big group.

The waiters are very attentive and were constantly topping up our glasses. It is expensive, but I think so absolutely worth it! It was our four year anniversary that night, and I don't think we could have gone anywhere better in Australia for dinner.

“Amazing experience”
Reviewed September 15, 2012

We had an amazing night with sensational food service and the ambience of the haunting rainforest surroundings added to the special never to experience. The aboriginal stories were very interesting and sent you back in time with a small insight as to how the aboriginal culture and history was in years gone by. Well worth it.

“Perfect Wedding Reception”
Reviewed September 9, 2012

We held our wedding reception 07/09/12 here and everything was perfect- the venue needs to be seen to be believed, photos do not do it justice. We chose to have a canape style reception so that our guests could mingle and make some new friends, I highly recommend the canape option- the food just did not stop coming so any concerns I had about canapes not being substantial enough were quickly quashed. We kept the reception location a secret from our guests which added an air of excitement and mystery to the day, there was an audible gasp as the buses drove into the forest and were met with a wall of fire. Our guests did not and still have not stopped gushing about how amazing the reception was. The staff were all so friendly and attentive, my champagne glass was never empty, they even brought my grandmother a blanket when she got cold. The girls serving even gave us a cuddle and told us our wedding was their favorite they had ever been to. The food was beautiful and abundant, the oysters with the wasabi sorbet- are to die for!. No noise restrictions meant that us and our guests could dance to abandon to our DJs tunes and did we ever. The night could not have been anymore perfect and it was all thanks to flames of the forest.

“Inadequate Aboriginal Content”
Reviewed September 4, 2012

Our party of 6 attended the Aboriginal Cultural Experience last night 04 September 2012
We all enjoyed the venue, the company and the food and drinks, although more serving of water would have been appreciated
However the Aboriginal content of the evening fell far short of what we had been led to expect. All we got were a short welcome speech, a short didgeridoo session, and a simple tale about the origins of the platypus
In our collective view this amount of Aboriginal material fell far short of what had been promoted.
At $209 per person we all felt that we had certainly not received value for money

Dear GNMPERTH,

Thank you for taking the time to post a review of your evening. Being in the tropics having enough water is certainly important, so I have spoken with the Floor Manager today asking her to ensure everyone is hydrated throughout the evening!

The evening at Flames concentrates on three elements - the rainforest setting at night, the banquet meal and the indigenous component. The indigenous component of the 3 hour evening equates to a total of one hour inclusive of the welcome, story telling and the didgeridoo and singing elements of the night. We go to great lengths to ensure our guests are aware of the indigenous content of the evening as there is no dancing which sometimes people expect. Our indigenous partners, who have 100% creative control over the content, feel dancing to be inappropriate, as dancing is generally reserved for ceremonial events and storytelling is in fact, the most culturally appropriate way to convey the stories of this ancient people.

“Overrated !!”
Reviewed August 30, 2012

We were in Port Douglas for a week and participated in a lot of amazing activities . All well worth the price and the time. Towards the end of our stay we asked the hotel for some recommendation on what to do on our last day and they did recommend a few activities during the day time and ' Flames of the Forest ' in the evening. We were very excited when we were told Aboriginal cultural performance and romantic / intimate rainforest dinner. We were picked up by a BUS at 7 pm from our hotel and drove through the forest and dropped off at the venue. up on arrival we were offered a glass of Champaign and some horderves. The dinning area is under a black canopy with some teardrop chandeliers. We were all escorted to the dinning area by one of the performers. There were 4 dinning tables . Each table sat 8 people. ( there was nothing intimate or romantic about the table setting at all !!).
There were only 2 Aboriginals to do the performance. To make long story short when we realized the evening was over we were so surprised what a rip off it was. It certainly is not worth $209 / person. Food was fair but not worth the price, Performance was simply a joke !! We saw better Aboriginal music and performance at the streets of Sydney for free. The only thing that was pleasant was to be in the middle of the rainforest at night and hear the sound of the forest that was relaxing and peaceful. There are a lot of other activities and events that are truly worth every penny in Port Douglas but this one was not.

Dear meron1,

We are disappointed to learn you were incorrectly advised of the nature of the Aboriginal Cultural Experience on your recent visit to Flames of the Forest. This experience has always been a shared experience with tables of up to ten guests, in keeping with the traditional way in which indigenous people share a meal together. Our intimate and romantic Rainforest Dining Experience which is held on a Saturday evening, is specifically for couples, honeymooners and small wedding receptions as guests can book tables of two, or tables for their group size.

Our Indigenous performers present their culture in a way they feel is most appropriate to their particular history, oral stories and music. It is a shame you did not enjoy this aspect of the evening as many of our guests have found their stories to be very emotional and spiritual.
