“Great apartments, stunning location”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 13, 2012

This is my 10th trip in as many years to Port Douglas, and I simply couldn't recommend these apartments more highly. Very few places in Port Douglas (despite a lot of misleading advertising!) are actually on the beach - these are, and pretty well all the units are positioned so that you can see it, from both inside the apartments, and the lovely big balconies. The apartments themselves are large, modern, and very well kept. Lovely furniture, good appliances, polished wooden floors, big bathrooms....If you're travelling with little kids, request one of the ground floor apartments, with either access direct to the pool, or a nice little lawn/garden area. And be aware that the building is 3 stories high, with stairs not lifts, so the ground floor units might work better for those with limited mobility.

They are self catering, so if you're looking for a full service hotel, don't stay here - but having said that, I have always found the front office staff to be friendly and helpful - special mention and thanks to Lesley and Tom here! And there's a great little beachside cafe attached to the complex on the corner facing the beach, which opens really early, and does very good coffees, juices, breakfasts and lunches - closes late afternoon. So everything you need is right there. And if you don't want to travel far for dinner, the surf club over the road is now really good, and seems to be very popular with the locals.

The other great thing about the location, is that you're just 5 minutes walk from Macrossen St, and the Port Douglas village and shops. Again, I notice with amusement that many other places neglect to tell you that their 'great' Port Douglas location requires a vehicle to get into town!

Sure, occasionally when we've arrived there might have been the odd dust bunny under a bed - but really, only very infrequently, and it hardly matters in the grand scheme of things when overall, the place you're staying in ticks so many boxes!

1. Beaches - hidden jem!!! Just hide manegment. Reception and management take no responsibility ~ 2 adjoining appartment complexes can be filled with young teenagers, no don't have them AS THE PROBLEM, was a teenager myself once upon a time! However swearing drinking cursing, hate to say this ~ ... Dry humping in pool! Spa ~ not comfortable with!!! Especially when famalies and kids are all in the mix!! Not exactly holiday entertainment! Where or what manegment do, not sure! stay in office oblivious to who is there, who is safe .... Bottles, glass, ect. Rules are not upheld ! Whoever reads this .... Take note! This place could and should be NUMBER 1. If I was a body corporate member, my first action at next meeting would be to request explanations of why is it so difficult in broad daylight to curtail behavuour that does not comply with rules set out on their own signage! We
saw this not on one, but several occasions. So did we duck for cover, no, we did say to these teenagers to go, not really taking much notice of us, we are not in authority, they were not going to be dangerous .... Just nuisance value. But as they were not staying at Beaches, did in their own sweet time leave to go to where they were staying, one of the two other appartment blocks managed vy Beaches reception,This took place early aug to mid aug. they were too toung to be wedding party - and seeing they had Limo pick them up .... And others ( all teenagers) thinking Debs!??? Not sure!! I so much want to return in year or two, let's hope someone gets a swift powerful kick to the rear! Not the teenagers, they are gone ~ and thry will grow up! Hoping beyter behaved than management ~ needs to go that way!! Who are letting Beaches down ....it deserves so much more ~ another thought ~ isn't that piart of what our money is paying for? And the owners ~ of units~ you really need to know how your investment/ unit is being taken care of, we don't have a vested interest, merely making comment On a good note... We found our unit very nicely cleaned. ( ! But repairs needed. ) bug nof major probs ~ Best wishes to the
"LOVELY BEACHES" we will return one day .... Hope u r being looked after!!!

We had a 3rd floor apartment away from (not overlooking) the pool. N0. 329 to be exact. As far as we were concerned this was the best location anyone could possibly have in Port D. It was simply stunning! Hear the breakers and view the sunrise over the ocean from your bedroom. (This is rare in Port D, due to its layout and building restrictions. And don’t be fooled by other complexes’ claims to be “beachfront” – they are in a sense but actual ocean views are rare.) Take in the same beautiful sea views from the two spacious balconies, dining and living rooms. We enjoyed perfect peace for the entire week and could not be happier.

Furnishings and décor were attractive, and kitchen well provided, with a separate pantry. Everything needed was there. Everything worked and in good condition. Excellent pool and pool spa (actually warm, which is rare in Qld) and good parking facilities (including covered).

Bathrooms were good, but not perfect. Very fussy or fastidious folk might find some issues (such as a toilet needing an upgrade and a vacuum under beds) but these pale in the light of the overall experience of being comfortably accommodated in the most stunning location in Port Douglas. I would definitely recommend Beaches despite the few negatives posted by others. The overall experience of us three visitors (including one very fussy one) was brilliant, brilliant, brilliant! We’ll be back next year.

There is no doubt that Beaches is in a great spot. Right opposite the beach with filtered views of the ocean. It is also close to the main street and the major reef departure point. The apartment we stayed in was not part of the complex letting pool and I will review that seperately.

What concerned me was the lack of leadership from the complex managers regarding the use of the pool, especially turning a blind eye to glass bottles and wine glasses in the immediate pool area. This is potentially dangerous and was highlighted on the "pool rules" notice. A large number of people ignored this ban by drinking from beer bottles in the pool and spa and lining up the chardy bottles and glasses for an afternoon on the pool deck. Stupid behaviour that was not discouraged by the manager.

Room Tip: Don't bother with the over priced, 1980's pseudo Italian food in the main drag. The surf Clu...

Location was fantastic, short walk to town and beach just across the road. Pool was very nice and the spa a nice temprature.
The Room we had was very dated and in need of many repairs and a spruce up. On the surface quite clean but a proper look showed it was in need of a good spring clean. The apartment was spacious with a large deck outside with outdoor settings and sun lounges.
Noise from around the pool echoed badly and could be heard from inside rooms.

On the plus side, our two bedroom apartment was very attractive, spacious, and reasonably well equipped. There were plenty of towels, including special ones for the beach, and a full kitchen. Glasses, utensils, and small appliances such as a plunger coffee maker were provided. As others have mentioned it is in a very nice location right across the street from the beach and an easy walk to restaurants, shops, the marina, etc.

On the downside, it was clear that it had not been thoroughly cleaned. One of the toilets let’s just say still showed signs of use and the toiletries in the bathroom had already been opened (there were “safety” seals which were broken so it was easy to tell). I understand these are apartments and not a full service hotel, but still.

The master bedroom had a comfortable king sized bed, huge bath, walk-in closet and faced the pool and the beach. However, there are manually-operated vents along the floor under the sliding doors and windows that do not completely seal so it’s impossible to block outside noise. Quiet is a priority for me, so this was an issue. If you’re not a light sleeper it would probably be fine. The second bedroom was much quieter but unfortunately had twin beds which are not comfortable for adults to sleep in.

Others have commented on the friendly staff but sadly that was not our experience. The woman we dealt with at the front desk ranged from cold to unhelpful and acted as if we were imposing. We found a problem with the washer where the hot and cold connections were reversed, so that delicates washed on cold were instead washed in boiling hot water and nearly ruined. When we reported the problem her reaction was, “what would you like me to do about it?” It never got fixed during our stay and when we left my husband wrote a sign and left it on top of the washer to warn future guests.

Also, the property is three stories and the way it is configured sets of three apartments are accessed by many different exterior staircases. There is no elevator, and no one to help with bags, so travelers should be prepared to lug their stuff up one or two flights of stairs depending on what room you get. Not a big deal for us, or for a lot of people, but something to be aware of.

Room Tip: Rooms facing the beach also face the pool.

We booked through an agent that booked us into what she thought was called 'Lattitude 16' apartments, which is actually the name of the group that own various apartment blocks in the area, including a grotty apartment block next door to the the 'Beaches' called 'Terrace beachfront apartments' which is what we were booked into originally! After complaining to the manager, we had to fork out an extra AUD$300 to be upgraded to the 'Beaches' which he claimed was a common occurrence due to tour operators not making it clear to booking agents what they are paying for!?!

Once we had moved apartments, we were relieved and so pleased with the standard of accommodation. the rooms and apartment itself was modern and spacious, and we had a round floor room (305 from memory) which was great because we had a gate that opened up onto the pool area! The location was great too, just opposite the beach itself, and a short walk to the main street. the only thing I would say is that it was about a 15min walk to the nearest supermarket (Coles) which wasn't ideal if you had a lot of shopping to get and no car!!

The pool was great and a relief from the sun, (when it eventually did come out!)
