“Great place to stay”
Reviewed October 10, 2012

We stayed in Apartment 17. It was ideal for the two of us. The apartment was spotlessly clean and freshly painted - but apparently they keep on top of the painting regularly - so it always looks pristine. The items of furniture were modern and in good condition. The bed was comfortable. Whilst not the most luxurious place to stay, it was comfortable, clean and very convenient.
The managers Trevor & Pippa were ideal hosts and nothing was too much trouble. We would recommend booking trips through them as they seem to know EVERYTHING!
Back to the apartment, we had a small balcony overlooking the pool and the pool was ideal to visit after a trip to the beach as the sun shone on the deck next to the pool most of the afternoon. The pool was small but very nice and clean.
We would suggest the only 2 things that possibly warrants a slight moan would be the shower head in the bathroom which kept moving about as you were under the shower. We never mentioned this to Trevor though - but perhaps we should have done so, as we are sure he would have sorted it. Also the wireless internet we found expensive - it was though Jimojo and we had no difficulty logging ON - but lots of difficulty logging Off - which makes sense as Jimojo WANT you to waste your money as you pay for the minutes spent online.
The apartments are very central to shops, cafe's and they are dead centre of town for the 4 mile beach at one end and the harbour at the other.
We didn't do any cooking - except to make a cup of coffee or tea or a Gin & Tonic. However, the cupboard was well stocked with utensils and crockery and catered for 4.
It was very good value for money and we would recommend it to anyone thinking about staying there.

Stayed at the macrossan apartments for 4 nights on the 29th sept. Apartment was clean, modern and well set out. Room was great and air con was quiet. We were on the ground floor and had a nice little outdoor deck. Apartment is situated on the Main Street in port douglas. Prime location to walk to the marina, sunday markets or 4 mile beach, the restaurants, Coles next door, yet no noise could be heard from the room. Pool was nice to cool off after a hard day sight seeing. Trevor the manager was extremely helpful and organised a barrier reef tour for us during our stay. Would highly recommend staying here due to its location, price, management and nice rooms.

First time to Port Douglas and we chose Macrossan House quite randolmly. But, now that we've stayed it will be our only choice next time. We loved being in the middle of town with the beach a 5 min walk down a vibrant main street. A fantastic array of eateries at our doorstep. An eclectic mix of excited holidaymakers and smiling locals to share the streets. (Watching the AFL Grand Final outdoors on the pub's big screen was a highlight!) And yet, our apartment was very private and quiet, with our doors wide open 24hrs to welcome the warm coastal air. Trevor and Pip have created a remarkable haven in the heart of town. Clean, well laid out apartments and we loved the private pool.
When we saw all the resorts lining the outer limits of town and usually requiring a shuttle bus to get to a restaurant or shops, we were very happy with our selection.
Thanks Trevor and Pip, we'll be back.

This is the ideal spot, Macrossan House is set right in the heart of Port Douglas. Everything you need is right within walking distance. This is the third time I have stayed here, it is always clean and tidy. I highly recommend taking some time to chat with Trev & Pip at reception when you arrive and tell them what sort of holiday your after. They know who's who in Port and have excellent advice, from dining to adventure and can book your tours faster than you can put your speedos on!

Room Tip: A bottle of wine in the evening goes well on the balcony :)

We stayed at Macrossan House for a couple of weeks. It is a superb location if you want to be close to shops, pubs and restaurants. It does not have the expansive outdoor areas and huge pools thar a feature of the big resorts out of town. It has very nice solar heated pool and the views are primarily walls of surrounding buildings. This place is geared towards couples without children which suited us perfectly. The apartments are fairly modest but exceptionally clean and comfortable enough. Miminal kitchen facilities but a fridge with a freezer which is a bonus. They are not very well noise insulated so luck of the draw if you have noisy neighbours or people having showers or flushing toilets at odd hours in above apartment. Not a problem for us on this visit so no complaints. The managers were excellent - very helpful and responsive to requests for information etc. $160 per night a bit expensive in my book for a long stay.

We visited Port Douglas for a family wedding in mid-August 2012. The venue is totally central! We had room 16, overlooking the pool, with roomy lounge and bedroom, and compact yet very useable kitchen space. Building is not new. Trev and Pippa were helpful and efficient and offered good advice on available tours, and organised our choice before we arrived. We could walk almost everywhere around town (marina, 4-mile beach, lookout also), except the Wildlife Habitat, when we took the local bus. Our hosts gave us discount entry vouchers for the habitat.
The only downside of being next door to a shopping centre in the main street was their use of blowers early on Saturday morning to clean the area, and the false fire alarm at midnight, which took 30 mins to clear.
Not our hosts' fault but this was a downside.
