“great but request a sunny side room in winter”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 9, 2011

agree with Teri from Sydney. Our room (73) was on the shady side of the resort so we had no direct sun for our 4 day stay. cossies and towels didn't dry overnight or during the day on the balcony. Poolside space is limited and pools cold in July. So ask for northerly facing room if you too are trying to escape Sydney winter. Bed very good quality, apartment huge and clean, great staff, 10 min walk to the beach or hire a bike from Reception. Riding along the beach was fabulous. Might stay a bit closer to the main area of Pt Douglas next time.

This "resort" has the potential of being a far better place for a holiday than it is at the moment. With a lot more attention given to the cleanliness of the apartments they would immediately improve their rating. Our apartment was not clean - cutlery & cups were the first of the dirty features and then we soon discovered the bathroom & the loungeroom were also not well cared for. Their cleaning staff were all young men (backpackers?) who really didn't have the knowledge of how to keep a place clean and were obviously not supervised in their job.
Apart from that the reception we received from management was great and the facility itself is ideal for a relaxing holiday.(One noisy tenant did spoil it for everybody else on occasions with his loud music and foul language.)

Room Tip: Make sure you have an apartment facing North.

Stayed here with mum for 1 week recently. I managed to get a very good deal on a 2 bedroom spa room. It was huge for the 2 of us. Two main bedrooms (both with tv). Another study/bedroom with tv and the main living area with full kitchen.

The bonus was the spa on the balcony.

What more could you want, space, not a lot of noise (it was a quiet time in Port in general, so not many people staying here at that time of May).

Staff were friendly, not that we crossed paths often. Had no complaints and hence did not have to deal with reception. Check in and out was very easy. All was paid and booked well in advance.

All in all, recommended. Not, you may catch the town bus; or better still hire a car for easier access to the main town centre and the region around it.

We arrived at this hotel over the Easter break. I was greeted by the young woman on the reception desk, who then proceeded to tell her how bad her day had been. She made fun of the speel she had to tell me (the usual, credit card for deposit reasons). So I was a little bemused by this. I had just driven 5hrs from Townsville, with 2 young children in the car and I didn't moan about my day!

Anyway, we had booked a two bedroom apartment with plunge pool and jacuzzi, which sounds very posh and it could have been. Although only paying $220 a night for the Easter break, I kind of knew it was going to be too good to be true.

Both DVD players in the room were broken and didn't read discs. But hey, this was Port Douglas and I had lots of sights to see not sitting in front of the tv. The airconditioners didn't work, 2 lamps in each room didn't work. Some of the lights didn't work, the insinkerator didn't work....... It was just a poorly maintained hotel room.

The main pool was nice, our plunge pool was way too cold. Our spa bath was great, and private.

There is no restaurant or cafe on the premises, which I knew. We had dinner one night next door in the Treetops hotel which was quite nice. Other nights we drove into town for a meal. It is a good 8mins drive from the centre of town.

I was satisfied with our stay, but probably wouldn't choose to stay here again.

Room Tip: the swim up pool apartments looked good

We stayed 6 nights in Hotel Spa room for our 3rd Anniversary Holidays.
The Spa is in balcony as shown in most pictures and very noisy, felt a lil awkward as everyone staying around you, can see and hear that u r in Spa.
They never cleaned room and rearranged our bed in 7 days.
Common Kitchen for Hotel Rooms did not have anything except Microwave.
Expect small lizards crowding on your doorways. When called to reception we were told they will be there, they are afraid of you, do not be afraid of them..
No real advantage being in PD...4 Mile beach is average, we had hire car for all days, no activities by resort itself.
Swimming Pools in resort were very nice! Clean, transparent water.
Property looked new was nice.

We recently stayed at Oaks Lagoons for a week in a 1 bedroom swim out apartment. On arrival the staff were very friendly and offered lots of information regarding the area and things to do. The apartment was spacious and the swim out pool a highlight. The overall cleanliness was a little below standard. The shower, curtains and couch could do with a good clean. The couch in particular was uncomfortable, stained and smelly. The kitchen was well stocked with all appliances and utensils making it easy to cook your own meals. It's located a little way ot of town but ok if you have a car or catch the shuttle bus. The beach is close by and its an excellent way to walk into town (about 45 mins).
Overall the Oaks is a great place to base yourself and was quite comfortable and quiet. The pool was awesome and very private. Rooms could just use a bit of extra attention to cleaning and a minor spruce-up. Bed was very comfortable also.

We were greeted by the lovely Manis, she was very welcoming and made us feel comfortable straight away. Like we were coming home.
My husband and I booked a one bedroom swim up. We were very impressed when we walked in. Very spacious for two people! We stayed in a 2 bedroom in Noosa that was half the size. We had a hire car (which I recommend you do if you visit Pt Douglas) so we could zip into town when we needed but there is a supermarket 5 mins walk from the hotel. It's our last night here and I just dont want to leave.
