“Not a bad hotel, but room ammenities were tired”
Reviewed May 3, 2011

We arrived at this hotel over the Easter break. I was greeted by the young woman on the reception desk, who then proceeded to tell her how bad her day had been. She made fun of the speel she had to tell me (the usual, credit card for deposit reasons). So I was a little bemused by this. I had just driven 5hrs from Townsville, with 2 young children in the car and I didn't moan about my day!

Anyway, we had booked a two bedroom apartment with plunge pool and jacuzzi, which sounds very posh and it could have been. Although only paying $220 a night for the Easter break, I kind of knew it was going to be too good to be true.

Both DVD players in the room were broken and didn't read discs. But hey, this was Port Douglas and I had lots of sights to see not sitting in front of the tv. The airconditioners didn't work, 2 lamps in each room didn't work. Some of the lights didn't work, the insinkerator didn't work....... It was just a poorly maintained hotel room.

The main pool was nice, our plunge pool was way too cold. Our spa bath was great, and private.

There is no restaurant or cafe on the premises, which I knew. We had dinner one night next door in the Treetops hotel which was quite nice. Other nights we drove into town for a meal. It is a good 8mins drive from the centre of town.

I was satisfied with our stay, but probably wouldn't choose to stay here again.

Room Tip: the swim up pool apartments looked good

We stayed 6 nights in Hotel Spa room for our 3rd Anniversary Holidays.
The Spa is in balcony as shown in most pictures and very noisy, felt a lil awkward as everyone staying around you, can see and hear that u r in Spa.
They never cleaned room and rearranged our bed in 7 days.
Common Kitchen for Hotel Rooms did not have anything except Microwave.
Expect small lizards crowding on your doorways. When called to reception we were told they will be there, they are afraid of you, do not be afraid of them..
No real advantage being in PD...4 Mile beach is average, we had hire car for all days, no activities by resort itself.
Swimming Pools in resort were very nice! Clean, transparent water.
Property looked new was nice.

We recently stayed at Oaks Lagoons for a week in a 1 bedroom swim out apartment. On arrival the staff were very friendly and offered lots of information regarding the area and things to do. The apartment was spacious and the swim out pool a highlight. The overall cleanliness was a little below standard. The shower, curtains and couch could do with a good clean. The couch in particular was uncomfortable, stained and smelly. The kitchen was well stocked with all appliances and utensils making it easy to cook your own meals. It's located a little way ot of town but ok if you have a car or catch the shuttle bus. The beach is close by and its an excellent way to walk into town (about 45 mins).
Overall the Oaks is a great place to base yourself and was quite comfortable and quiet. The pool was awesome and very private. Rooms could just use a bit of extra attention to cleaning and a minor spruce-up. Bed was very comfortable also.

We were greeted by the lovely Manis, she was very welcoming and made us feel comfortable straight away. Like we were coming home.
My husband and I booked a one bedroom swim up. We were very impressed when we walked in. Very spacious for two people! We stayed in a 2 bedroom in Noosa that was half the size. We had a hire car (which I recommend you do if you visit Pt Douglas) so we could zip into town when we needed but there is a supermarket 5 mins walk from the hotel. It's our last night here and I just dont want to leave.

Upon check-in we were greeted by Manis who was nothing but helpful. We booked a 2 bedroom swim up apartment. This stay was excellent.....2 bedroom / 2 bathrooms / 1 study / laundry &kitchen. Room was well appointed with modern decor. The pool outside your room was the best feature. We stayed during the Xmas / new year break & the pool was never full, it truly felt like it was out own private pool. I have read previous reviews & was worried after I book this but i had nothing to worry about. Sure the carpet might get a bit wet when going inside.....just dry off before hand like you would if you had to travel down a lift to get to pool. We will be going back at the end of this year. I should mention however that you need a hire car....town is about 5 minute drive away far too long & hot to walk to town...if you are serious about seeing the region you need a car anyway.

My husband and I stayed at Oaks Lagoons 24th - 26th December 2010 and it is a modern complex with 6 lagoon style pools - this is great as the pools are never over crowded. Staff were lovely - very friendly and helpful. The property is well maintained and has excellent facilities including ample free parking, BBQ facilities and plenty of outdoor tables, chairs and sun loungers. We booked a One Bedroom deluxe and were on the third floor. The apartments are VERY spacious. Our bed (King) was extremley comfortable and off the bedroom was a large study which had a desk and couch. The Kitchen was well equipped with cutlery, plates and dishes. There was a full size frigde, lots of cupboard space, two ceramic elements and a convection oven/microwave.
We really enjoyed our stay at Oaks Lagoons, the only thing we would like to note is that it is a few kilometers from the actual town and probably not a comfortable walk in the heat. It would be more suited to people looking to self cater that have access to transport (rental car)

Last minute trip from Melbourne & booked on the internet the night before. Transport from airport was efficiently organised by Danielle at the front desk. Pleasant stay to relax and recuperate. Exceptionally clean and fantastic swim out blue lagoons. Expert tips on 'what to do' by Michelle & Murray. Michelle, I did love my last meal at the 'Beach Shack'. Thank you. Tanvi
