“What pool???”
Reviewed January 8, 2010

Booked this hotel based on the photos of the pool. It seemed so large that everyone could enjoy it. Little did we know you had to have a swim up apartment to appreciate it. We were shoved in a small area near the baby pool - the only place we could enter the pool and relax. Relax we didn't. We checked out the next day and booked another hotel with a huge pool for EVERYONE!!

We stayed at the Sea Temple on 12 Dec for my wife's birthday. It was a Sat night and the Resort was also hosting a 6 course Champagne Degustation Dinner which we had tickets for. We thought it would be nice to stay over.

I contacted the Resort directy and got a last minute deal for a 1 bedroom spa apartment. The apartment also had a private rooftop complete with 4 person outdoor spa, BBQ, sun lounges and 6 seater outdoor table.

We arrived early and were thrilled that the room was ready to check into straight away (10am). Here are the best parts about the Resort:
* Secure individual garage close to your apartment
* Fully self contained apartment with internal laundry
* 2 TVs
* Day Beds on the Balcony
* Individually controlled A/C
* The best pool I've seen - it is huge and plenty of places to explore
* Great pool bar, not too pricey

If you were to stay here for 5 nights or more it would be brilliant especially with the kitchen giving you the option to self cater. The resort is suitable for both families, groups and couples. I would highly recommend the Sea Temple to anyone coming to Port Douglas, it's world class.

We arrived at the check in desk at about 12am. We were given a map of the HUGE grounds and had to make our own way to our room. Our area was not lit up so it was tricky to find. Once we found our room and tried to open our door, the key cards didn't work, making us question if this was indeed our room or we were trying to get into a room with occupants in it!!

We had to drive all the way back to reception (about a 1 minute drive) and we were told that the key cards were new and they had to re cut them (??) So they opened our door and we had to wait about 1 hour before the manager came back with the new keys. QUITE irritating after a long day of traveling.

Once we were finally able to settle down in our Studio Spa room, we noticed a few things that we were quite surprised by for a 5 star resort.

One thing I look forward to in hotel stays is the big king size bed and soft sheets. The description of this room said KING SIZE bed. According to the manager, two king SINGLES pushed together is a king size bed. VERY DISAPPOINTED with having to sleep on two single beds with a cardboard rough sheet over the top and a crack down the middle (in a 5 STAR resort!) According to the manager - this is how ALL hotels do a king size bed. I think not.

Upon opening our mini bar - it was empty. Apart from a few mini milk containers.

The blind cord holder popped out of the wall when I pulled up the blind.

Oh, and we booked an airport shuttle from the airport to the resort for 10pm on a Monday night through Sea Temple. The concierge booked it for 10 AM Monday morning! Luckily we cancelled our shuttle booking and hired a car instead or we would have been stuck at the airport!!

It is a little noisy in the morning with all the children yelling in the pool and it is a little hard to get a pool side deck chair if you haven't secured one in the morning.

The positives? Beautiful lagoon pools, HUGE in room spa, lovely ground surroundings. Unlike like a hotel, this massive resort gives you your own quiet little private space with a balcony over looking the lagoon.

Resort is very large so may have to walk distance to get to reception, pool, breakfast etc

Check in staff great - efficient, friendly and helpful.

Housekeeping - could have been better - just tidyied and not cleaned.

Waiting staff - very ordinary. Both mornings we had breakfast there - NO service. Lucky to get a coffee - no refill - plates not removed and not busy and plenty of staff - just felt ignored.

Rooms - nice but not luxurious. Maybe not so great considering value for money. Kitchen ill equiped - no scissors, ovenproof dish etc which I consider basic if you want to cook a few nights considering applicance Bosch! Tiffany iron ordinary - could have given us a better quality one.

We had a plunge pool apartment which was nice but not fenced off from front ground apartment which lacked privacy and hard to keep my 2 1/2 year old in the area. Also these apartments have the spa apartments above them which would be ok if no one is above you but we had very noisy and inconsiderate people that talked loudly on balcony and had spa going all hours - jets noisy and I was there to relax being 6 months pregnant and that mean't being able to sleep!

Would I stay here again? Probably but would get a 3 bedroom villa for me privacy and therefore no one above you. Is more expensive again so would have to get a good deal as found resort pricey for what it was.

Really enjoyed our stay at sea temple - the swimming pool was great for the kids - they spent most of their time in it.

Staff were really friendly and helpful and the room itself lovely. The spa was superb!!!

The only drawback was the fact that the resort is a fair way out of town - but we found it pretty easy to just get the shuttle bus in and out. We were really looking for a relaxing kicked back holiday - and that's exactly what we got.

We'll be back for sure

My wife & I stayed at the Sea Temple with a couple of our friends recently and shared a 2 bedroom apartment on the upper level.

Our first impressions of the resort/hotel were very good. The entrance is opulent and has lovely views down the large pool. The general mood was chilled & relaxed, with a touch of class about it that we had anticipated. We were excited to have arrived!

The 2 bedroom apartment was very well presented and a great size. Kitchen had everything you needed and the balcony was nicely shaded with more views over the pool. The roof terrace however, was looking a little on the tired side. The teak sun loungers could do with a refresh oil, the tiled floor needed a good scrub and the Jacuzzi wasn't that inviting. All I can say is it needed some TLC...

The next thing that struck me was the lack of sun loungers around the pool. We were told the place was around 50% capacity, but still we struggled to get 4 together at any time of the day. Apart from that, all was good. The pool side service was efficient and the staff were always friendly. Swimming around the vast pool was totally relaxing as well!

I think the location is really worth mentioning here and I can offer some tips… Sea Temple is way out of town, with a fairly regular small (but slow) bus service running between resorts & Macrossan Street. Now, we bought a 3 day pass thinking we’d save some cash over the pay-as-you-go option. Mistake! There are 2 separate bus companies running and if you buy the pass for one, you can only use that one!!! And as is always the case, when you’re waiting for a bus the wrong one turns up! It was annoying to say the least!!! I think the Sea Temple should offer a complimentary bus service, considering the cost of stopping there (why not, my local pubs do!!!).

In conclusion, The Sea Temple is a very nice resort but I think over priced for what you get. If you are after a chilled out, quite, out of the way location and don’t mind dropping some cash – this is the place for you. I on the other hand would rather stop in central Port Douglas, save some money and avoid the bus!!!
