We stayed at Paradise Links for a week with our two children ages 12 and 10, during July (Winter in OZ). We had flown into Cairns from Tokyo, hired a car and driven the hour or so up to Port Douglas (a beautiful drive but keep your eyes on the road as it's narrow in places).
We had previously stayed at Peppers in Palm Cove, but this time wanted a little more space and as our kids are keen golfers, wanted to be close to a course. It was our first time in Port Douglas and it is a lovely place. The markets on Sunday are a little 'bohemian' but that added to the enjoyment.
Check in was smooth, and when shown to our villa it was just as the photos on the website. Spacious. Clean. And with EVERYTHING you need. The kitchen was very well equipped, and with a car it was easy to drive to the local IGA supermarket and pick up groceries, wine and beer for the week. The supermarket is within walking distance if you need it though.
We did not eat out at any restaurants (there are none close by) but we made use of the fantastic BBQ area near the pool once- and as were were out sightseeing most days were too tired anyway to find a restaurant.
At 5pm we watched the golfers from our bedroom balcony with a cocktail in hand- so tropical and relaxing!
The golf course is an easy walk, (5 minutes away). Our kids made use of the free lessons on Sunday morning with the local Pro, while we enjoyed a latte at the restaurant overlooking the putting green.
Port Douglas itself is a good walk into town- roughly 45 minutes via the beach (much preferable to the road walkway) but Paradise Links has bikes to hire, if you do so choose and it is a very flat ride into town.
As all the villas are independently owned, I would guess each is individually decorated but all have the same standard equipment. The washing machine and dryer were fantastic as was the dishwasher!
Loved our stay. It was wonderful having the kids in one room, and us in another, with a spa bath and private ensuite. The only, (and I mean ONLY) thing I would ask for is a doormat at the front door as alot of dirt was walked in on the tiles (I swept it constantly!!)
And for those who are not used to Northern QLD beaches- there can be crocodiles at any time of the year, and stingers (which during winter are not present)- so if you are going for a 'beach' holiday, go to NSW in the Summer...
